Melcher's Leaderheads

I uploaded my newest Leadehead, Zenobia.:D
She was a 3rd-century Syrian queen of the Palmyrene Empire. You can find the picture i used as reference in the post above.

I'm very pleased with the result, i think she is by far my best work. The proportions seem right, light/shadow, textures, etc. My other Leaderheads become rather decent by comparison.:( Still, i like them.:D

Shader version only, as always.

If you encounter any sort of problem with this LH, please let me know. Also let me know if you like the Leaderhead.

Credits: I used the pommel from the sword of the Megas Alexandros LH. That's it, rest Firaxis and myself.

I would love to use this in game but doesn't show in list. It is in the Leader pedia however.

I am having such a problem getting these LH to work in game. Sorry I am old and new in that order.

Maybe you can explain what you already tried to include it? This way it's easier to spot your mistake, instead of guessing what might be going wrong.

You know how to add a leader into the LH XML and the corresponding LH art XML?

God where to start. I have tried for 3 days to get LH's to work I have putting these files almost everywhere. I have Win7. I have downloaded 30 of interest. Four seem to work fine (isabella, cathrine, Alexander and for some strange reason theodora) without any XML editing.

First trying to find where to put the folder and files that it contains.

After unzipping I have moved all the name file folder (example:zenobia folder) straight into,
1. C:\Users\DocEch\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\CustomAssets\leaderheads

2. C:\Users\DocEcho\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\CustomAssets\leaderheads

3. E:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Assets\Art\LeaderHeads

4. E:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Art\LeaderHeads

5. E:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Modules\Custom Leaders
(* some of these show up in the game leader list but there is no graphic or info on their screen)

As for XML, some come with the information others just the core files but I have only edited,

E:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Assets\XML\Art\CIV4ArtDefines_Leaderhead.xml

E:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Assets\XML\Text\CIV4GameText_Civilopedia_BTS.xml

E:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Assets\XML\Civilizations\CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml

Mostly just the first one. I only did the other two if it came with the file. I haven't touched any schema because I don't know if I am to over write or add like the others.

Like I said I don't know which location made the few work or if I even have them in the right place. I appreciate you taking the time to walk me through this. ;)

Don't edit the core gamefiles, always(!) create a mod!

The right location would then be: E:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Mods\MyNewPersonalMod\Assets\XML.

Please make also sure to disable caching in the .ini file (My Documents\My Games\BtS\Civilization4.ini, change
PHP:
; Disable caching of file system (may slow initialization)
DisableFileCaching = 0

; Disable caching of xml and file system (may slow initialization)
DisableCaching = 0

both values to 1)

Ok I did that and restored the original XML's. Thanks very much! :)

Where should the LH folders or files go (re: dds, kfm, nif, etc) go? I still don't see any heads, buttons or info showing up.

Also the XML's that come with heads, should they be copied into the new files or moved into the XML folder?

Sorry for taking up so much of your time.

Somewhere into the Assets\Art folder. Where exactly you can see in the ArtDefines_Leaderheads.xml.

If there are XMLs in the download (most times not), and there is not such a file present in your mod, then you can just plug it in. If there's already such a file present, you have to copy the new entry (most often just the last one in the file) over to the already existing file.

Ok, I will keep plugging away and let you know the results. Thanks for standing by to give a hand.:goodjob:

Right now they are in,

E:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Art\LeaderHeads

Which seems to be where they are pointing too.

All in their orignial folders mind you.

You can use the

tags to show us XML. Have you added the leaders to CIV4LeaderheadInfos.xml as well, and do the ArtDefineTags match?

Thanks for the code tip, I am still feeling my way around.

I don't think I added anything into that XML, just art, civ and text ones I believe and art ones seem to point in the right direction.

The files are in,

E:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Art\LeaderHeads

I also tried putting them in,

C:\Users\DocEcho\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\CustomAssets\art\leaderheads

SaibotLieh got me turned in the right direction setting up modded leaders and units into a single custom mod. So far that is working well.

Still not sure about unmodded leaders yet but I am progressing. I will keep plugging away with your advice. Thanks much!

I cannot for the love of me get Aelia Pulcheria clickable in the Pedia or as a player.

I followed the same procedure as your others. She is in the Pedia and all the information I put with her is there. But I have to click on another leader then scroll to her to see it.

I am thinking that if they are not clickable in the Pedia they won't show up in the game.

did you load the mod? is she assigned to a civ?

She didn't come modded, I had to make one. Yes I assigned her BYZANTIUM.
All the files look right and point to the proper place. I have gotten the others to work but not this one.

Hey guys!
I was a bit silent lately. Mostly caused by lack of time. Good to see people still help each other. Thx for that.
@DocEcho: I hope everthing is working for you now?

I'd like to base another leaderhead on torso of Mem de Sa, but I'm getting an error when importing it to Blender. Is there a blend available or another solution for this?...

I checked every folder with blend files. Sorry but i couldn't find Mem de Sa.
I'm afraid there is no easy solution. Probably you need to import the nif in two parts. First all working parts with bones and all the nodes. Only delete the problematic parts. Then delete all stuff except the missing part. Sadly the mesh will lose the skininstance, so you need to re-rig the model to the bones afterwards.

Okay, my initial plan was to finish Barbarossa early February because i should have had some free time back then. This brilliant idea got nuked by work.
So good news! I have some time now and go right back into the action. Hopefully i haven't got too rusty.

Thank you for replying on my question, no matter if it's late. I was able to fix my issue by removing the parent node from the parts bones list. Unfortunately, the leaderhead I wanted to create, didn't look well with that part, so I decided to discard that setup...

Sounds great! :)

or nif swap only the parts you need.

Hi melcher,

any chance you might be interested in creating some male Native American Leaderheads in the near future ?

Something for Northern America would be great:
Commanche, Cheyenne, Shoshone-Ute

Southern or Central America would be cool too, of course.

Just asking ... ;)

Best regards,
ray

Of course, I tried that, but the mesh got distorted and refused to import to Blender.
