CrezNES - Another Return to Our Roots

The Bengali tribes had wiped the Indians out and now were going to take Indochina. They had met the Wu. They had met Nippon. They had been expanding to take the Guangxi tribes and integrate them into Bengal. Their culture was spreading across India and Southeast Asia, however, they kept some aspects. This fusion of culture was becoming quite widespread along South Asia.

However, they heard from whispers that a nation from lands of the south formed. Who knows, we might engage in trade with them sometime.

But in the west, a new tribe was coming from a land to the west. They were called Persians. They had conquered the Baluchi and would've conquered the Harappan tribes (that is, if Bengal hadn't taken their lands first). The Persian barbarians were extremely close to civilization, and if Bengal did not stop them, then they would be a large thorn in Bengal's side.

The Channel Affair
The war dragged on this century between the Channel Union and the Dani Tribe as the conflict escalated. The Union kicked off the century by contacting and riling the barbarians of Norway and Teutonia into acting against the Dani. Although no over-land campaigns were launched, the barbarians and their galleys did disrupt much logistical communication between Dani and their over-sea troops, almost jeopardizing the reinforcement of the Flanders front.

In the Channel itself, however, the reinforcements had a more difficult time making landfall. Union naval forces harassed the incoming Viking rafts, destroying two nearly defenseless divisions as they rowed into Normandy. The Dani responded with their own fleet and attempted another coup of the fleets; this was not successful, however, as Union experience taught them not to be drawn into a Dani assault. They fled the scene west where a battle was fought south of Plymoth, with the Union navy triumphing over the Dani. The singular Dani longboat fleet fled east to find harbor in Denmark, but was beset upon by Teuton sailors and destroyed before it could make port.

On the Flanders front, the Dani counter-struck the Union forces with a massive Viking assault that pushed the Union all the way to Flanders. Just outside the town, however, the much-whittled Union forces managed to halt the Viking advance while having reduced the invading numbers by equal amounts. The Frank front now could go either way.

In Britain, the Union forces utterly crushed the remaining Dani garrison. Immediately the Union set about restoring burnt land, and already Britain is on the road to recovery. With Dani forces pushed from Britain and the supply lines severed by the Union navy, the Dani offensive may well be on its last leg. (-6 vikings, -1 stone army, -1 stone fleet, -1 early longboat for Dani, -1 partisan, -2 stone army for Union)

Pirates 2: Curse of the West
Piracy has started up in and around the Mediterranean again as the Carthaginian stronghold on Sardinia once more begins spewing forth piracy of all colors. Gold, frankincense, myrrh and bittorrents all began flowing into the vibrant Mediterranean black market as Carthaginian pirates wrought havoc across the sea.

Tartessos and its allies, however, were more than prepared for Carthage. Even so, pro-Trader efforts to squelch the Carthaginians were time and time again met with failure as no organized power structure made for an enemy nigh-impossible to nail down and kill. Even so, the Tartessians launched an attack against Sardinia with two prongs, hitting the north and south half of the island.

The advanced bronze navies smashed into the Carthaginian galley fleet, crushing with utter abandon the entirety of the navy in an amazing and reckless display of splintery carnage. There's no accounting for just what enabled the outnumbered (albeit higher tech) Tartessian fleet from smashing the extremely well-trained Carthaginians, but it is commonly hailed as one of the greatest military upsets in history and it is believed the Tartessian admiral received many an accolade from that affair.

Speaking of military upsets, the second prong of the Tartessian attack met with failure. Even though the troops made landfall in northern Sardinia, the attack against the Carthaginian defense failed utterly as Carthaginians, dug in on the hills, defended valiantly against the invaders, pushing back and ultimately destroying the expedition. Thus victorious, Sardinia is safe for now, however without a navy it could only be a matter of time.

In the west, meanwhile, advanced Floridian fleets - empowered by their lighthouse - sailed across the Atlantic ocean and landed in Iberia, bringing with them a plethora of gifts from the Old World into the New. Floridian alligators are one such gift, and the large, dangerous animals were introduced into Iberian waterways where they immediately began spreading and thriving. Indigenous wildlife, defenseless against invading alligators, were trampled by the advancing alligator numbers. With their gnashing teeth and impenetrable skin, the Iberian ecosystem may be forced to surrender to their new scaly overlords.

The Floridian colony itself became a stronghold for Floridian pirates which proved to be just as devastating as the Carthaginians but in a different way. Tartessian cities began to be harassed by the Floridians who sought a slice of what gold the Tartessians had to offer. Although their profits were limited at first, Floridian tendrils reached into the western Mediterranean, establishing contact with Tartessos, Milan, Carthage, and Sicilia. One unfortunate Tartessian fleet attempted to attack the Floridian ships and was forced into port from severe damage following. All across Tartessos, frightened whispering begins of these "ocean devils" and their "pets of death," and it seems as though Florida may yet pose the greater threat to Europe than Carthage ever was. (-4 Carthaginian galleys, -1 stone army for Carthage, +1 naval quality, -1 bronze army, -1 guerilleros for Tartessos, +1 alligators for Iberia)

RANDOM EVENT: Disaster strikes Songhai! A terrible drought falls across the nation and thousands starve, including many of those serving in the military. (-1 stone army, -3 growth points)

UPDATE IN 48 HOURS
I am taking Monday off. I will probably regard most weekdays with such a 1-0-1 fashion. Expect updates to follow a Tuesday-Thursday-Friday-Saturday-Sunday pattern. That way, I get two days off a week, and you guys get an average of five updates. How zany is that?

@all: Unique Units have been changed: they can no longer become obsolete, instead, they automatically upgrade with the ages. ALSO, I have added a section just below the wonder list that displays the alliances. In your stats, 'armies' is now pluralized and navies are now called fleets. Finally, three new Bronze-age wonders can now be built; I advise you check them out, they've got quite some kick!

Story:
Frontier between the Floridean Holdings and the Kingdom of Tartessos, 25th November, Year 652 of the Kingdom.
Jorg cursed in a low voice. Those damned guys from the other side of the ocean had really managed to expand into lands that were part of the Kingdom, without giving regards of other people that might already be going to live in that place. It had been a big surprise for the first people that were going to colonise the place known as Campustella when they found that there was a small town already in there, and that all the people talked in a strange language. They came back and told the nearest army outpost, which immediately had sent him to scout the situation.

When he arrived and saw that the people had already started to cut down several trees, and noticed that, right there, in the coast, a boat, as big as the Tartessian Navy ones but more stylized and apparently sturdy, was floating, he cursed. Those ships had not been built in any of the countries known to the Kingdom, and he remembered the report someone had given of seeing a ship coming from the ocean. It had been dismissed, but now it was obvious that it was real.

"Now, what are we going to do here? We'll have to see what the High Council thinks of these people entering our lands," Jorg said, running back to the near barracks of the army. Many things had to be talked about if a good decision was to be taken.

Would you be willing to sign a true trade agreement between both of our nations, now that the misunderstanding between us has diminished?

Also, our Priest High Councilor wishes to state that bringing those "alligators" to our lands from wherever you come from has been damaging the bloodlife of our worshiped Gaia, as those monsters have been killing several animals with total impunity, because of the lack of any true natural enemies they might have. That's the reason why we are currently implementing an extermination campaign against them.

The Great Famine

Even with the expansion to the farmlands all around the Kingdom, it still didn't prepare Songhai for what happen. Normally a single drought is not big problem with now the kingdom be so large, it could temporally survive on food grown or caught in parts of nation or trade for it.

However this drought was different! This drought effected most of the kingdom and it lasted far longer an normal one. The only part of the empire that was not effected was a small strip along the Gambia river but it could not feed to whole nation .

Many trader travel south to Zulu's buying all the spare food they could find, trying to feed them and their families back home. It was a desperate time even the king had problems try to keep his armies and his court well feed which result of one of his armies to fully disband.

By the time rains finally came back the death toll was in the thousands. Now it will take time to for the nation to recover and to try to put measures in place to prevent this having again.

Council Hall of Corunia, 12th November, Year 660 of the Kingdom

It had been many months of hard negotiations between the nations of Florida and Tartessos, probably the two most powerful nations in America and Europe, respectively. The landing, eight years ago, of several Floridean ships in the north-western coast of the Iberian Peninsula had nearly brought both nations into war. However, in spite of several minor skirmishes along the unofficial borders and some attacks on the coastal cities of the region of Lusitana by some renegade ships, in the end two representatives, coming from each countries, had managed to arrange a meeting while all land and sea units were kept in hold so that no one, running on a hot temper, tried to attack the other group.

In the end, the treaty, which gave concessions to each of the countries and, although none of them managed to get what they truly wanted (Tartessos would have preferred to recover all of the land, while Florida would have liked to keep all the occupied terrain), they managed to get a treaty that could please both countries.

THE TREATY OF CORUNIA

The nations of Florida and Tartessos, represented by Minister Rob Carr and Councilman Alfonso Rubal, respectively, sign this treaty and, in the name of King Ander IX of Florida and King Mikael the Fourth of Tartessos, promise to uphold and follow the points of the following treaty:

1. Tartessos recognises the sovereignity of Florida over the city of Corunia and a surrounding terrain of 2 kilometers from the current walls of the city.

2. Florida recognises the sovereignity of Tartessos over the other lands of the region of Campustella.

3. Tartessos will pay two thousand pieces of gold (OOC: 2 gold) to Florida.

4. Florida will allow Tartessos free trade through the trading post of Corunia.

5. Neither Florida nor Tartessos will station an army in the city of Corunia when in peace time. A civilian militia shall remain in charge of the defense of the city.

6. If Florida enters in a war and Tartessos remains neutral, Tartessos compromises to protect the city as its own until Florida can provide 1 Army and 1 Fleet for the defense of the city.

7. If Tartessos enters in a war and Florida remains neutral, Florida will allow Tartessos to use the port of Corunia as a safe harbor and supply station for its Navy.

8. If both Florida and Tartessos enter a war, and do it in the same side, the city of Corunia can be used as a port for both of the navies and armies might be stationed.

Signed,
Rob Carr
Alfonso Rubal
Ander IX
Mikael the Fourth
