I am having the same issue also. I have a 2 gig P4, 1 gig RAM, Ati 9600xt 256mb RAM, using driver version 5.8, directx 9C, and windows is fully patched. Please help. I need my fix.
I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling after rebooting system.
I have the same problem. AMD 1.4 ghz, 512 ram, ATI Radeon 9550 (256 vram.) I've tried the Catalyst drivers from 5.7 to the most recent with no luck. Everything is set appropriately on my machine, but the game will not run.
Same here,
meet the hardware specs easily,
newest drivers, fresh winxp install.
Must admit i haven't yet updated my winxp beyond sp2. Could that be it ?
I don't think so because I am fully patched as of yesterday and I'm not able to run it. I also just downloaded the Directx9c installer from microsoft and reinstalled it thinking maybe the version with the game was bad and still no dice. This is killing me.
Even though I had the resolution set in the ini file to be 1280x800, it starts to initialize at 1024x768. The adaptrid=0 looks worrisome as well, as if the engine cannot recognize the video adapter...
I have an almost identical setup at work to my home machine (where it does not work). Both definitely have X800s with fairly recent drivers. It doesn't work on one (home machine) but I just drove to work and confirmed that it works here. So it's not something straightforward like drivers, it seems.
I've gone through playing with the debug options and nothing gives me any errors worth working with. I'm getting the same failed log message everyone else is.
ITS THE DAMN GRAPHICS CARDS!!!!!!! don't bother doing anything else!!!! I just took my Radeon 9550 out and put my old geforce card back in.....Thank the lord I kept the old card!!!! Anyway, like magic the game works!!!! I am so pissed right now I don't even want to play this stupid game now!!!!! Anyway I wish they had some better support so we all wouldn't run around like idiots trying to try everything and anything to fix it!!!!!
