Fantasy NES: Sekai

Another question: If a character had a speed of 3, and he got a horse (the kind regular "cavalry" troops own), does that mean he gets a speed of only 2 if he were to ride it?

Its time for this tavern to start earning business. Now introducing: Microbrew. :D

Kingdoms and city-states can create the best brew that comes from their realm.

Spoiler :

Microbrew Name
Realm: (where your brew is sold)
Type: (dark malt or wheat ale or anything else)
Description: (a brief description of your brew)
History: (a brief history of your brew)

What the hell is this for, you ask? This is an optional mini-game. It is all OOC, but the brews mentioned can be used IC of course. I feel like handing out bonuses for some reason. If you post a microbrew profile, here is what you get:

Kingdoms: +20 added to their permanent economy next turn.
City-States: +10 added to their permanent economy next turn.

As for you characters out there. Don't worry, there will be things like this for you in the future as well.

I was bored and felt we needed to put more of an emphasis on concept of the tavern. This is a fantasy game, after all.

The speed would remain 3 unless otherwise noted by myself. This has been brought up before. Horses are fluff when it comes to characters. If you have one or if you don't, your movement stays the same, unless I gave you a special horse from questing and mentioned its addition to your movement. So you could say you have a horse right now. It wouldn't change anything.

Fuerrmarr's Finest
Realm: Dorovel
Type: Malt Whiskey
Description: The grains grown in the isolated highland fields above Dorovel and in the still well-lit upper caverns are stored in the deep granaries of the city for safekeeping. When germinated, they are crushed and the great pot-stills of Fuerrmarr II's distinguished distillery. Left to mature for years, this fine Whiskey is shipped throughout the underground kingdom, and out into the outside world. Dwarven alcohol fetches a mighty price so far from its origins...
History: Fuerrmarr Oakstill, third child to a long line of brewers, set out to start his own business, going up against his family's established ales. In his first year, however, disaster struck. Water flooded his storage room, and all of his supplies were, apparently, ruined. Nonetheless, he crushed and fermented the soaked and germinating grains. The result became, completely by accident, his most famous creation- Fuerrmarr's Finest. For years, he kept his methods secret, and built up a very successful business. This was, later, inherited by his son, who in a moment of accidental charity, revealed how he malted the grains before preparing the whiskey.

Since then, numerous imitators have appeared, but none have come to unseat Fuerrmarr from his position on the top of the underground drinking world.

Immortal's Forge Brew
Realm: Du Farthen az Kurlan
Type: Fire Mushroom Wine/Whiskey
Description: Not as bad as it seems. These mushrooms grow near the ancient vents that once was the god's forge. Their innards give a mush that when fermented, give either a burning whiskey or a soothing wine.
History: They once grew by the vents by the Immortal forgers. Who ate hundreds, savoring the heat, while they make armour for other gods. When the god that forged here is killed in a battle. The evolving creatures loved to spice their food up. Then, one of them, Yansul, discovered that when fermented it saved better. Currantly there is Fire Whiskey. Lava Whiskey. Shroom Wine and mysterious 'Raw Rum' that is known to cause dizziness and hallucination.

EDITED

Okay, now I'm a little confused. Do I put my movement orders in this thread, or in the actual game thread? And I have 40 spending points banked then? Also, I'd like to go check out the shapeshifter if I can, that sounds interesting.

Post it in the main game thread.

And yes, feel free to start heading over to the shapeshifter.

Mushroom Mash
Realm: Glotrith
Type: Nobody knows.....
Description: A strange beverage that will make the drinker first somewhat dizzy, then turn them into a crazed psychopath that will attempt to fight the first thing he sees.
History: With the coming of Brana's black Guard to Glotrith, they brought with them much Orcish knowledge. One such thing they brought with them was the knowledge on how to brew beer using mushrooms. normally it would taste like any other orcish beer, but the mushrooms found in Glotrith are strange. They are normally bright red and taste extremelly spicy when eaten raw. Some experimenting revealed the whole "Drink this and you go on a killing spree" property of the drink. This drink is now only served for amusment or if there is a war and your troops need an extra boost.

Some fine brews. I see that Western Sekaians love mushrooms.

Fun fact: Sekai means "world" in Japanese. 世界。

Intentional?

For the record, elfmen (hope you don't mind me using this instead of the awkward "Half-Elves" and the, uh, loaded "Halflings") generally prefer wine, so I can't really participate. Though I think you should make more such contests in the future, and not just about alcohol (but rather about local culture in general); those things stimulate creativity and make the world richer.

You can post a wine, for sure. That is perfectly fine. I can change the name to "Tavern" or something, so that includes all forms of alcohol. Someone already posted about a whiskey. So that is fine. But yeah. I'll have more of these.

It was very intentional. I am not nearly creative enough to come up with a name like "Sekai". :D

Okay, so I only have 1 movement I can make per day? And the map is kind of confusing, trying to find the coordinates, what coordinate is Dorovel in (I assume my dwarves are still there, no?) and I looked but couldn't find any posts about the shapeshifter, could you link me? Sorry I seem to be an idiot, it is just a little bit confusing, but give me some time and I'll get used to it. Plus, I missed a whole week and when I look back through pages of posts I start to lose concentration and will likely miss what I'm looking for. Sorry :(

No worries. It must be quite intimidating. This NES sort of exploded with stories from the get-go. Now there are several interesting things happening, and more on their way. If you check on the front page of the thread, the rules section: Section 10. of the rules is "10. Updates." Click on the Update that says, "Turn 4 Update" (our most recent update).

Within that turn is a list of "Recent Happenings". "The Shapeshifter, Part I" is one of those links, IIRC. Du Farthen az Kurlan (Charles Li) is sending some troops there, but they have violent intent. You can just go search it out. Either way, you might want to discuss with him a course of action.

Dorovel is on hex P-7. Underneath the main map, on the front rules page, there is a "HEX CODE/TERRAIN MAP", with labeled hexes (letters). The hex that the Letter starts on, is Column 1. So the hex that has a P on it, is P1, and then it moves to the right, numbers going up.

At some point soon I plan to meticulously fill in each hex with its coordinates.

Since you have not posted any IC posts yet, you can always opt to start closer to the shapeshifter, perhaps you would choose to start in Du Farthen az Kurlan instead of Dorovel. But yes, if your movement is 1, then you move 1 hex per RL day (but you will find things on the way to where you are going, so its never a dull journey).

Technically, "sekai" (possibly pronounced a bit differently) is also a dialect form of a Russian verb meaning (very approximately) "to cut", as in with a curved sword, or "to beat", as in with a whip.

And maybe I will come up with something about Malthen wine, but it's not exactly easy. ;)

Hexes are usually easy enough to figure out, especially given the existence of basic landmarks; you should probably just add more, or maybe merge the territory map and the hex map (i.e. just add the letters and the numbers to the side of the territory map).

A heavier brew for those that can take it and a lava hot brew for only those those that can afford it and the Dwarves.

By the way, I'll get to updating the Lizardmen quest and to posting about K-21 for you das. Anything else going on today that I'm forgetting?

Well, there's K-22, too. ;)

(And maybe Ragnar will wake up, but I guess that's up to him)
