Far Horizons: Heart of Destiny

Did I say 10 minutes? Scratch that... It's over 30. I've been watching an entire Simpsons episode while waiting, the episode is well over and still waiting for the next turn..

So it crashes near around 1500's you say? why im I not surprised ;)

OH sorry your still at the massive delay part, well a few more turns and I assure you infinty hangtime :(

Nothing much can be done..or can it? . Ive built a Civ3 Turn Reduction designed computer and Im now testing this mod to see if Im able to power through or get stuck in the mud like the others and I have before

Map size: 180x180 (20x20 larger then defualt "huge")
Turn :391
Civs: 10 left from a feild of 18.
Overseas trading: active

Far Horizons the video 2

Crap :( I was enjoying that game so much, the mod is great. I had a glance to the whole thread and saw it was a known 'error'. Indeed I was playing with a huge map, the weird thing is the way it happens in a single turn (one turn waiting time is ca. 1 min and the next turn is hell).
I started another game with a medium-sized map, and for some reason I can't build arrow towers (or rampart cannons, I've got the tech already), is there any reason for it?

IM sure a medium will work. Hey for the betterment of F+H mod society could you tell me what turn you were on and mybe what map size with the number of civs on the map to?
Also, if you not runnig a dualcore could you tell me what ghz your computer is?

Thanks , I hope to post an update on how it runs at 450 I think the crash happens near 420-470 but im not sure yet.

Computer is a dualcore I'm afraid ... And as for the game (took a while to locate the saved file but managed), turn was around 325 couple of turns up/down. Map size huge with the max civs allowed, which I think was 8.

What about the other problem with the new game, where I couldn't build arrow towers? Am I the first one with that problem?

SwG your right Huge maps are not going down easy for this mod. I got stuck 10 ten turns after I posted that nice picture up there. 20 minutes later it would resume. Next turn it would take 30 then mybe 45, finnaly It stalled for good. Im not about to give up I just upgraded one system with a inter-turn crunching 3.2 processer! This baby burns turns brother!

Hey I mean it! Now it takes out 210x210 maps with heavy civs in late age under 30 secs tops! no lie! (IM not counting AI vs Ai battle sequences or the odd time a exessive amount of pillages or city razing takes place -- even then its never topped a minute yet!)

Can you tell me the power of the processor you tested this mod with? Im ready to try this out again on mega huge. I will not admit 'default' :D

Hmm based on yours and mine hang timelines (and two other reports that went down in 1500's) , Id say my investement and research in civ3 interturn efficiency has payed massive dividends.

Im now past turn 410(I only get as few hours of civ at a time so I'll post the video proof later, now im off to work)

So the people who saw the last video I posted saw history being made.

Far horizons in open to huge maps.
IM going to go say its the large L2 cache thats made it possable and not the overclocking. since halfway into my epic I was forced to return to default to save the pc from blasting off through my roof! (listen to the vid and you get the picture lol)

I thought arrow towers were too powerful in the game, so for the moment until I figure out a way of implementing them in a balanced manner they are out...:(

Well that's weird then, in my first game I was able to build them (which is why I was surprised in my curren/second game).
And yes, they are powerful, but also very expensive. From my point of view, it kinda makes sense. To crush them you need artillery and/or armies. They have saved my skin more than once in far-off colonies were I had almost no troops. It is a huge investment, but it pays off. I would vote for keeping them :D

Yes I want to keep them its just later with the later upgrades of them the fast production abilities of cities make building them easier and the AI builds to many of them...so I'm trying to get a handle on that first before reinterducing them.

Is there a reason theres no maintence charge? Mybe I ran the game so fast It slipped streams into a Parallel Civ universe? :mischief:

It effecting AI to so they got plenty of cash to play around with aswell. To do much dough flying around for my liking. How do you go bout correcting this so I can tighen the ol ecomony?

Btw as far a tech issues im still good. Turn 427 with the Atom researched and no slowdowns to report. (under a min so much faster!)

ANyway forget about that, I ll show the clip when Im the first to actaully finish the game(on Extra huge). But some help with maint issue would be cool. I have a long weekend ahead so I'll make heavy progress :D

Alright I'll fix that in Heart of Destiny Deluxe. Should make choosing a government more of a strategy with maintenance cost, I honestly never noticed that before with the Absolute Monarchy. I had that on all the new govs I added...I checked..

SoG, if you're going to add in Asian wonders for Far Horizons, I'll have the Chinese "imperial academy" released soon. Having both Changdeokgung and Kyoto Imperial Palace is a bit too much, so just remove either one of them and replace it with the Chinese "Civil Service Examination" wonder (it would double research in its host city).

The first page says "mandatory patch 3.0" but the link leads to patch 2.0. Does a 3.0 exist?

Some SS's would be awesome, looks great. I just want to be sure it's worth backing up my normal Civ Complete and all of its saves that would take some time :P

Ah heck don't sweat it rook ;) . You need not back up a thing.

Just drop the mod in C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\Conquests\Scenarios folder and go to "civ content when you start er up', You will see it listed with a bunch of cheapo mods that came with!.
I bet You thought it was like a graphic mod where you erased over your terrain files with new ones, not so.

Take a look how I did it: notice you have the mod's 'file' then you got mods 'BIC' (that civ3 icon thing) in the civ file route I mentioned above . I have Civ3 Complete so just copy what I did
and your set for ANY MOD YOU CHOOSE!

Spoiler :
fhpic.JPG

I always upload and extract the files to desktop 1st . Next I open the window showed in the picture and drag the "Heart of Destiny" 'Civ3 icon' (called the "BIC") over and drop it in. This is followed with its matching file folder ..that in this case use differnt names?? ok no matter, its called "Far Horizons" don't ask why usually they are of the exact same name. Place those two files in the civ3 file structure like shown.

Last step is to copy over any patchs that are required. This is just a case of cut n paste. EX: take the Patch's art folder and drag it on top of the Mods Art folder. Next let go and say 'yes' to to all. Repeat this for "text" folder and the new BIC icon. Thats it.

ONe tip Check the file "Balancer Reloaded" I have included in my mod collection. I'd go back to page one and do what I just said for this download instead. :D

It is very similar to this and gets my 5 star approval for Store bought quality. (like this one once its done) It is the best for being biggest yet also the most complete and error proofed 'xpak type mod' on the net. No new rules, same gameplay yet some cracked editer features added by added techs late game(this means closest to xpak in way for added new ways of play) I promise this is where you want to start. Its size is about the same as a store bought Xpak aswell .(1ooo units flavoufied for cultural diversifcation, full pedia dicriptions! better graphics, new resources, new wonders, civ, gov, tech, buildings etc)

Reason, SoG is still making ammedments here after I found the' Bomber using Railways bug' that I talked about on your turn deley thread.

Sword_Of_Geddon,

I'm on my second play through this time as the Mali. I've got Islam and can't seem to build Mecca. I have built the other Islam GW (Taj Mahal, right?) and CivAssist shows it as buildable but it does not appear in the production lists.

I also do not see anything in the civilopedia entry that would tell me why I can't build it. Any ideas?

In case you never heard the problems with Huge maps on this mod have finnaly been solved.
It turns out it was a problem with one tiny checkmarked box.
I give you T.A's word after today you won't have another 'infinity hang' episode while playin this great mod again, on any size map for that matter.

Alright enough heres the fix:

Spoiler :
Fix_for_mod.JPG

Step 1: go into the mod's BIC and select "Units". Scroll down into you get to the "bomber"
Step 2: Uncheck the box that reads "GoTo" and save.
Thats it. No need to download any patch.

Cause
Basicly the problem lies in having the "GoTo" funtion enabled on an air unit. This effectivly cancels out its 'air range' restrictions making it now free to make full use of railways to deliver its attack. Add in the 'bomb' misson and you see where the problem lies as far as turn times are concerned.
Late wars use many units and extensive railgrids linking these large rival factions. At the start of its turn The AI Civ now has an infinte number of possablities to consider, and believe me, it takes time to calculate all of em before dropping its bombs...sleep:

For more info on how this bug was found Check here at I've finally figured out what was causing the huge lag in Heart of Destiny!!"
