Civ 5: Civilizations/Leaders Wanted!

No, but if you were to use Moroccan arabic...

Oh, I think that would be fine if they chose to go that route. I just think that undermines diversity to an unfortunate degree. I'm not saying they can't find someone who speakers Berber either, I'm just saying that it'll be relatively difficult.

Picking all languages they might have, I'll try to rate the easiest to hardest:

Easiest are modern European languages (Dutch, Portuguese)

Next Easiest are modern Asian languages and semi-extinct European languages (e.g. Gaelic).

Then come Native Languages of the Americas.

Then come studied ancient languages like Latin or Attic/Koine Greek

Then are languages that are studied, but are relatively obscure fields. I would put Akkadian, Sumerian, and Phoenician in this group.

Finally, if they wanted Minoan or Etruscan it would be in this group, i.e., impossible.

What I wanted to point out is that there are a lot of people who still speak Berber and that it's an official language in Morocco, this means there are likely specialists in the US or Europe who speak it and that it wouldn't be that hard to find one. There are definitely languages that are harder to find people who speak it. Finding specialists who speak long dead languages is much harder.

There just over 1000 speakers in the US according to wikipedia.

Seems like Berber is very unlikely, since there are only so few Berber speakers in the USA. Actually I believe that if Morocco is added to the game, that they would speak Arabic. Berber seems unlikely because of so few speakers and I doubt Firaxis wants to make Moroccan Arabs angry by making their civilization speak Berber rather then Arabic.

And they already have Arabic speakers. however the people that do speak Berber in USA are probably near DC, so would not be hard to get in Maryland...

Everyone's saying the native American languages are hard to find speakers for, but the big ones (Nahuatl, many forms of Mayan, Quechua, Aymara, Guarani) are pretty far from obscure. A lot of countries have them as 1 of 2 official languages..

But if it were to be the Moors instead of Morocco, then would Berber be more accurate or would Arabic be better?

The Almoravids spoke Berber primarily, but also Arabic and a few other languages. I too would prefer them over modern Morocco (and I probably would call them the Moors like you do, but I have the luxury of precision on the forums).

Idea:
Take the Purhepecha (Tarascan) cities off the Aztec list, add some more, and make them a civ.
UA could have something to do either with their isolationism or metalworking.
They're different enough to work.

I dunno, if you look at the polls on 2K Kongo are way above Zulu, like, Kongo are in 4th, Zulu 10th. Portugal + Kongo = :D

I would vote for them.
It just seems like people like the Zulu more.
And a Double Pack would be great.
Next could be Dutch-Majapahit.

I would prefer Kongo over Zulu. I think there's a better argument for a stable, complex civilization. Zulu seem more famous because they fought the British and because of Shaka (I would reject any civ that depends on the personality of a single person - the Huns would fall as well).

Doublepacks would be great (I've been pushing for Carthage and the Celts), but I have a growing fear that Spain and the Inca were more of a fluke. They promised before the launch of the game that there would be a doublepack, so having them together made a lot of sense. Plus, very few other Civs have as clear a connection together as Spain and the Inca (aside from Spain and the Aztecs). While there is an undoubted connection between the Dutch and Indonesians, I don't think it's as readily apparent.

Looks like this post was moved.

It was. That's fine. I hope nobody reads this thread from front to back because I'll sound really, really repetitive. :D
