Oh my do tell us how does it feel playing with the Wiimote and nunchuks.

Pretty freakin' sweet. I read everywhere that the movement is more sensitive than you think, and it was for me. I started making drastic movements but you don't need to, which is a good thing.

The Wii Sports that comes with the system is a blast. Besides golf; every sport is really fun; tennis, baseball, bowling, and boxing. I got into the games more than any other games I have ever played. Usually I am pretty staionary and unemotional towards games, but I couldn't help leaning to try to coerce a return in tennis, or a foul ball in baseball. You will definately be standing up to play. The boxing game was like that to, you really get caught up in the experience. And, as Nintendo claimed, I even got my parents, complete non-gamers, to try it out and have fun.

The remote and nunchucks were very responsive and timing in all games was right on. There was one slight problem; in tennis, every now and then drawing back your arm to swing registered as the actual swing (it happened in golf a couple times to), but it;s not nearly as big of a problem as it sounds. Overall, the remote and nunchuck were extremely comfortable and smooth.

What games did you get?

Wii sports (comes with system), Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Madden 2007.

What kind of ports/slots are there?

Standard ports for any console, AC/power, the whole audio and video imput plugs for the TV. Four GC (Gamecube) controller slots and two GC memory card slots. One Wii memory card slot (SD memory cards I believe), one USB port (I think there was just one), and a port for the sensor bar, off the top of my head.

I'm starting to think that maybe I'll end up getting a Wii instead of the PS3. What will really change my mind fast is if the Wii is region free wrt to games.

PS3 is just too damn expensive, and the Wii was just too unique to pass up.

On top of AlCosta question, I would like to know how basketball controls are translated. Do you actually have to jog (creating a up and down motion with the remote) and how are more complex things like crossovers and drop-steps translated.

Oh man, imagine dropping a game-winning fade away and falling into your couch. That'd be sweet. :mischief:

Too bad it doesn't look like there is an NBA title for the launch. Not even the crappy NBA 07 for god's sake.

AlCosta... I heard madden and along with the other EA sports titles that launched for the next gen consoles sucked...

EA really doesnt appeal to people who want gameplay improvements. In fact they took away some improvements from previous maddens.

Read the reviews for it on amazon. They are very insightful.

I heard that too, I just want to know if you can do anything with the Wii stick, like the stick is the ball or something cool like that.

If Nintendo can prove to me that they can map complex motions to the stick then I'll buy right away. However, I haven't seen anything but the bowling game and shooters which don't really provide much of a challenge for the designers.

As of right now, the verdict is I'm going to wait a year for the PS3 to get more games and lower the price. Also I want to wait until they fix their backwards compatibility problem. I never had a PS2.

Have you played Madden? What's that like with the Wii stick?

You use the remote to hike (pull it back, you can also fake out friends by holding down B and pulling it back, in which case the QB doesn't actually hike it). You also use the remote to throw (throw it hard/fast and the ball will to, move the remote slower and it's more of a lob). Moving the remote left or right will do a stiff arm in that direction, moving the nunchuck attachment left or right will cause a juke in that direction, pushing them both forward will help keed the runner moving if he is being gang tackled. If you're a receiver, lifting both the rmote and nunchuck upwards causes the receiver to raise his hands and catch the ball. On defense, moving both forward is the equivalant of the hit stick feature. Kicking is as it would make sense, draw it back, and then forward, keeping it straight for a straight kick. Overall it works very well, although kicking can be quite tricky, since you have to move fast, and the fact that there is more motion control for offense makes it much more fun that defense.

Admittedly, there isn't really much in the way of new features for the next-gen Maddens. That's why the Wii version is so great, because the controller is like a new feature in its self; it's a whole new way to play. I have always been a fan of Madden, but I found 2006 to be dissapointing. 2007 for the Wii has made a very good first impression.

They certainly can. Especially watch the last few minutes, where pro tennis serves are used and numbers are drawn in mid-air.

I have thought about this myself, and it seems really hard. I would assume the the control stick would move the player, and that shooting would involve a button, since movement would be too hard. Maybe shaking the remote or twisting it in certain ways could cause crossovers and spin moves. Free throws could also be shot using motion. The problem with basketball games on all levels is that there is soooo much free motion, the game is a lot more open then all other sports in terms of body motion and potential moves, so it's very hard to crunch it down to an accesible game.

I'm definetly :drool:ing over Madden. It sounds great, this might push Wii a little above 360 for now.

Yeah, it's really great. With Madden being the only NFL game now becuase of licensing, I would expect that game improvements get lost, as they know they're game will sell. They won't have to risk big changes. That's why the Wii version is great, even if there isn't a whole lot of new gamplay changes (it's the same with 360 and PS3) the controller is so different it feels very new.

Yesterday I played the Wii for about 3 hours. It was freaking amazing.

Wii Sports was a blast. I played Tennis, Baseball and Bowling, all of them were quite fun.

Excite Truck was good also, due to the innovative driving mechanisms.

I had my doubts about this system months ago, but it looks like its really great. Thats why im getting it.

In sum here is an off the wall prediction. I think the hype surrounding the PS3 is just that hype. There will be no long lines just like there wasn't with the PSP (btw I got a PSP on launch day and I was number 4 in a line of 15)

Boy, were you proven dead wrong.

I waited in line three days to get my own.

There certainly were long lines for the PS3 (although with a ridiculously small supply of consoles, that's not really surprising). However, the prediction that the hype surrounding the PS3 was nothing more than hype seems to have been pretty accurate thus far. ;)
