[Kinda OT] Civ 4 S&T Renaissance

I have never had to do that but if it works for you :)

S&T Renaissance?

oh definatley, i don't think this place has been so busy since the old days of yoshiegg and brandon.herron and the rest of em

I'd like to note that there was only one page when I went to bed last night and then bam 3 pages.

A brief history:
My screenshots of my America game in the Post Your Empire thread on DoC turn into an IAAR
I make a new thread for the IAAR in the DoC thread, and two other IAAR's follow by Citis and Sanguivorant
The three threads are very popular as IAAR's were kind of a forgotten model
Demos Kratos is made; a group that promotes IAAR and alternate story-writing
Moderators move the threads to the dead S & T forum because reasons, and I expected nobody to pay attention to them then; indeed, participation greatly decreased
DoC people flooding S & T give hope to other non-DoC people who assume the forum as reviving
The wave of new participation leads to new stories

So you can thank Tomorrow's Dawn for reviving the thread. She lobbied to move the threads off the DoC forum.

Really? So I've fallen here just as luckily as S&T was lucky to receive America's thread. I was in a time of non affiliation to mostly anything in CFC. My first forum was RFCE, then I went back to college and lost most of my free time and the development of the game got somewhat slow. Because of RFCE I sneaked SoI and DoC eventually. Then I left for good (because I had to study instead of winning by UHVs with all civs), just to come back more then a year later to try to revive the LoR forum. It was me and Imp Knoedel there trying to see if something could be done from the ashes.

Then one day, I thought I would sneak again on DoC to see anything curious that could be happening there. I saw the Post your Empire thread in its last days, and started seeing the fresh new America write your own history thread and got interested in its model (from some time I've been thinking in working with games, so it was an interesting experience).

Then it moved here. And now here I am. Now I can't miss a day without coming here.

But I also had another idea: Using LOR to construct a world in which a hyper advanced civilisation exists unbeknownst to the undeveloped people of the world in a massive mega city.

Being a LoR addict for years I must recommend you not to use it. If you want a mod that works nicely in Single Player and has several innovations in every aspect of the game, try RoM-AND (Rise of Mankind - A New Dawn, thanks to Noyyau for showing me this). LoR is only superior in Multiplayer, as it almost never have OOSs, and RoM-AND is still trying to solve this issue. But RoM-AND is actively being developed, while LoR stopped in 2011.

But if you want to win a game with uber units, LoR is the place. Take a look at the thread of Moai Spammer: The City Between Two Rivers. There I explain how to make LoR uber Generals that simply make you win, in any setting of the game (and by that I mean even Marathon, Huge & Deity)

This thread has me thinking... When I was in my prime story telling stage I was really bad at it and I never finished a story... *looks at The Great Seljuk Empire*... yeah, back then...

I still never finished my fiction story. It got old and I think people didn't like it as much because it was just that, fiction. No pictures.

Update plz...

I would have ressurected Zululand since my Paradoxitis is slowly evaporating, but my Imageshack account broke down, killing most of my motivation I slowly gathered. And I can't even think of reuploading the images from my previous stories save possibily for Argentina.

Finally I took a look at Writing in Gunpowder thread and discovered it's a Multiplayer game being written into a Story. This concept seems really interesting and I would like to participate in something like this. It's a shame DoC can't be played in Multiplayer, so it's out of question (and many things could become expected because of Real History parameters).

So I have an idea, but my lack of knowledge in the subject leaves me more asking then proposing. I think LoR is a great mod to be played like this because it's better then BtS for several reasons, and in normal Multiplayer Game it almost never gives OOSs (Out Of Sync, for those not used to MP). The version is the last official version by phungus.

But they are playing a PBEM (something I've never touched), so maybe this way is better then a normal MP. If someone can explain to me the difference between those I would be grateful.

Now I'll say why I think LoR is better then BtS:

- Revolutions: a great concept that may create new civs while the game progresses.
- New Techs/Units/Buildings: Not many, not few or none but enough. The difference between BtS and LoR in these 3 things is small, and any BtS player may get used to LoR easily (differently from RoM-AND or C2C that are completely different)
- Similarity: In many concepts LoR is almost equal to BtS, like in civics, unit categories, civilizations, traits, UUs and UBs, Diplomatic Options, Resources, Specialists, unit strength and abilities.
- Take Over AI: If we can apply this option, LoR is so dynamic in the spawn of new civs that even people that didn't start with us have room to join almost at any time of the game. Not only Revolution creates new players but Barb Cities may turn into Full Civs until Barbs cease to exist.
- New Options: Many new options that already appear in many mods, like IDW (Influence Driven War), Range Bombard, Require Complete Kills, Permanent Alliance, Tech Diffusion, Choose Religion*, Inquisition.

* The differences between Religions in this mod are only 2: The resource you need to double production of Cathedrals, that may be Stone (Jewish and Christian), Marble (Islamic and Hindu) or Copper (Buddhist, Taoist and Confucianist), and the associated Random Event: Blessed Sea (Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism) or Holy Mountain (Judaism, Christianity and Islam). Hinduism has no associated random event, but both random events are so hard to complete that it mostly doesn't matter. So this option seems to me more of a flavor then anything else.

I would like to know what you guys think. This could be truly epic!

Nobody gave a sign of liking the idea, but CaterMoai took advantage of this and started their own game.

So who here want to start another game to confront them and show the best MP story here?

@The Noob: I saw you interested there on the topic, what do you say?

Besides Hamachi I have no idea how to play through the internet, and as free hamachi only supports up to 5 logged users in the same room, or we are capped at 5, or someone come here with a better way of doing it!

We may do vanilla BtS or LoR as far as my knowledge of stable CIV IV BtS mods go. I truly enjoy AND more then anything else here, but I can't stand that many OOSs.

So let's show CaterMoai how interested they will become to join a game with the rest of the community here!

We had no interest in creating a competition! My plan was to try it out with just Moai and I because he lives in the same state as me so I know he will be reliable on time and I was already getting close with him. We were trying this out to work out kinks for a bigger story to come around with more people. I'm glad I did just make it one person because we went through several games before it finally worked. If you just wait until we finish our game you can join in a bigger event. I'm sorry you feel left out but I know Moai's situation better because I was talking to him in private so I know in general when and when he would not be available. I'm also sorry that you feel like your idea was stolen but I didn't realize what you meant by your post. I had the brain blast to do multiplayer story days later. I in no way stole your idea as I had no idea you had this idea. So if you will patiently wait you can join in a larger story. But, if you make an MP game now you will have too many other things going on. The test worked with Moai so let us finish it. Then we can start a new one. If I sound like I'm being mean I'm sorry, I just feel like this is an aggressive retribution for my mistake. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. I do not try to be rude. Sorry.
