By the way, i just did some more searching and it is clear the Isa can vote for whoever she pleases, as long as Mehmed is not a candidate. So you might want to stay in Theocracy and continue with our previous plan, since Mehmed won't be a candidate.
 
Just to make life even more interesting, Mehmed is in WHEOOHRN. I'm going to ignore that (but maybe put another unit in Ivoria ;)).

Xpost: Really? Isa can vote for us? :) I don't really believe that but I'll play along. OK, stick with Theocracy and continue with the old plan! I'll try to play more today, but not sure when.

BTW, to win with votes from Justy, Sal, and Zara we'd need to boost our population by around 30, and that's assuming that nobody else grows in the meantime. Not possible, at least until we get Bio, and that's a ways off--probably longer than I'm willing to play.
 
I used the worldbuilder save to validate it. Vassals can definitely vote differently and independently of their masters.

We're doomed.

I played to T280/1300 AD and will upload momentarily. We'll have Communism in 3 turns and the UN in about 7, maybe 6. Isa and Mehmed are at war with Zara and Sal. I gave Goldlandia to Toku when it got to pop 5; it starved down to 3 before stabilizing. Me dumb--should have built up some more food in the bin to give him time to pop the borders and maybe stabilize at 4 but I was worried that he wouldn't accept it if I waited much more. Anyway, the problem is that even with that his pop is 137 vs Justy's 145 and he won't take any of our other cities. I've wiped out the barbs and settled anew in the north. The cities there should grow very quickly once we farm from the river and chop granaries.

Speaking of which, I've brought back most of our military, but it wouldn't be easyquick to take him without cannon. We'd also have to swing Mehmed (conceivable but hard, maybe impossible) and count on Sal voting for us over Justy (not unlikely but hard to count on with hidden modifiers). We're also likely to annoy one or both sides in the current war by declining to join their tiff.

We could eventually meet the victory conditions but at this point I'm ready to throw in the towel--not interested in investing a ton more time. What do you think? I'm happy to leave it for you when you get back, and maybe even play a few more turns.

And by the way, good job. Glad to have played it this far with you. We definitely needed the help of someone who knew more about diplomatic victory. Maybe BL was right after all and cultural would have been a better choice.
 
Yup, let's go see what the others did. And likewise, it's been a pleasure playing with you. Woulda been even more fun with more people. And now we have time for GOTMs.
 
If we'd chosen to continue, I think the best thing to do would be to crank up Deli's scientists again and put the UN on slow burn while we teched Chem and Steel, then RepParts and Rifling. When Isa/Mehmed eventually ask us to join their war on Sal/Zara we accept (getting the diplo boost) and vassalize Zara and then Sal. Getting Isa and Mehmed to +8 shouldn't be too hard then--we could temporarily run Free Religion and/or Vassalage and then switch back to Hinduism after the victory vote if necessary--and we'd have all the votes but Justy and Toku. It would only delay victory to T310 or so (a guess) while we busied ourselves with subduing Zara and Sal. But that's still more time and effort than I'd want to bother with for what was obviously becoming a mediocre result.

Apologies to everyone for being wimps and not finishing, but with only two people left it wasn't much fun for us. Same thing happened last game, too. Smurkz needs some new blood! (and the return of Our Leader :)--I hope things are going better).]
 
I agree. Compare Plastic Ducks turn 82 save with our turn 81 save. We'd already lost the game at that point. Their three cities are so much better than our four, and they had just completed the Oracle which was still some way in the future for us. We got totally schooled. It's kind of fun reading their thread to learn some lessons.
