I'm alright at editing units (like my desert and snow ones) 
but i'm not that great at starting from scratch

Hey Everyone,
I really have appreciated this thread... it has encouraged me to start constructing my own units. I do not think I will ever be able to make good units like Alex and some of the other top unit makers... but I will try my best at making some. Using Paint Shop Pro 3.11 I began my first unit from scratch. I did not copy anyone's unit (the only thing copied is the helmet). I would now like your honest opinions/constructive criticism. I don't know how to classify my unit... possibly as an overweight germanic warrior or viking in a blue winter coat... the colors are not blended all that well... but for a first unit I worked really hard on it

Unfortunately, I'm horrible at making units from scratch, despite working on it for over 3 years. However, I think I do a pretty darn good job on working on what others have done.
Attached, you'll see 3 sets of units: The first are edits from a unit created by Benjamin Ball from his 2300Mars scenario (original to left); the second came from the almars scenario, but I don't know who made it; the third are edits of units made by Alberto Berardi. Again, I didn't make, only edit.
Have some constructive criticism? I'd be glad to hear it.

I use MS paint actually, to do the dirty job such as the actual painting, and PSP 8 to do the effects. The secret is having a good source picture to look at while drawing. Lots of zooming in and out. Look at others' units. Zoom in on them and see how they are done. Pixel by pixel. Try to add their technique to your own units. Basically it's about trying and trying over again. Took me many crap units until I got an idea on how to handle graphics. And I think your units are on the right path, Elite Guard ! Looking good
