NCG 3: The Rebirth

An iron city can actually be quite productive. 1S of the Iron allows you to work the sheep, gives you 2 riverside grassland tiles and a flood plain, and lets you build a lighthouse for a 3 food lake to the west. There's plenty of food to work the Iron and make a productive city, and the first coastal city in the empire.

I thought it was a good city before; it's a great city with the appearance of iron.

@ Mu'min,
Yes, I understand that I must explore more territory before declaring war on hatty. I don't have enough troops, and I don't have enough intel. the plan so far is to eventually attack her, but not now.
I personally see little point in making freinds with hatty or JC; Hatty has too much stuff that is way too tempting, and so her fate is not of a concern for me, and since I have no iron, I can only make axemen, and axemen with shock can rip through praets, rendering them moot. Also, as soon as I conquer Hatty, my border will be in contention with peter's and therefore I would like to worry about one front only. As long as I keep my army strong, JC will not be persuaded to declare war, and I can expand in peace.
Concering iron, the only close place is what I showed you, and Delhi popped it's borders a few turns before that. Therefore, I'm think of settleing a fifth city on that outlying incense, both for the Iron and for the rice and incense.
And concering the state of the continent posts, what info, specificlly, do you need and should be shown?

Tech screen.
World screen. where the resources are and cities. you know like aelf and sisitul does.
Build that coastal iron city.
And then prepare for war. How many horsies are there in Hatty's border? Are the horsies above our second city the only horses she has? if thats the case we don't need to worry about chariots. Just build up for war.
for techs we should get contstruction for jumbo's, so that after hatty, we can kick julli of our side of the world.

At 200 AD, you should have at least 6 cities. Why are you moving so slow? You can probably get away with it on prince but it isn't the best opening.

Me personally I'd get to construction ASAP. An axe rush at this late stage will be ugly. If you're building an army it might as well have elephants and catapults in it. You have a lot of land to conquer. Better to build a really good army and take it all. with Hatty's land you could war no more after that if you want to.

I'd give Hatty what she wants for Mathematics and scoot to construction, drama later. Meanwhile, yes, settle on the iron spot, finish the GL with the help of all the production from hills in that city - mine the hill.

I like mice's plan... You can be in trouble if you try a axerush now ( your neighbours are most probably sharpening their knifes to attack someone, and the last thing you want is that JC attacks you with preats when your army of axes is somewhere in Hatty's lands) and there is nothing that can stop a phant/cat combo with some axes added.

P.S Reduce the pictures size to 800*600 please. Your last update took forever to load in my computer

The State of the Continent: Round 3-Round 4
Before I begin; please note, pete2006, that this is at noble, and I am nowhere near as good as you. Although in most of my normal games, where I go for domination, yes, I will have 6 cities by 200 AD. In this game I got slowed down by wonders due to the fact we are shooting or a cultural victory. Mice, your plan of action sounds good; I will do that unless someone proposes a better idea. r_rolo1, lets see if this post is easier to load on your computer.

First: a look at the known world to us, without resources:

Picture1-1.png

With all resources:

Picture3-2.png

with all luxuries:

Picture5-1.png

with all foodstuffs:

Picture6-1.png

and finally, with all the strategic resources:

Picture4-1.png

Yes, ceaser has iron, and hatty has horses, but neither of the horses are pastured. as for JC, I can only guess whether or not he's mined that iron. I know hatty has no iron, because she hasn't discovered IW.

techs in comparison with peter:

Picture9-1.png

in comparison with JC:

Picture8-1.png

and in comparison with our probable next target, Hatty:

Picture7-1.png

would anyone like to tell me why they can't trade calendar to me. I honestly don't know, so that would be helpful. the only tech we have on everyone is alphabet, so I think the Gib is pretty much locked up.

this is where we stand on techs:

Picture10-1.png

and a look at our three cities:
Delhi:

Picture11-1.png

Bombay:

and Madras:

Picture12-1.png

and a look at the demographic screen:

Picture43.png

If you notice in the screenshot, I have switched to construction, for obvious reasons. I am afraid that Hatty may have beelined construction while we were waiting around; she had maths for several turns, and Ivory is in her capital's BFC. she doesn't have it yet, but it would explain why she hasn't pastured her horses yet. we've still got plenty of turns left, so we ma see more warmongereing, but I think after we vanquish Hatty, we'll settle down and shoot for our cultural victory.

Thoughts?

First thanks for the resizing. And you can't trade Calendar because you have tech traded a pre-requisite ( maths) in this turn. In next turn will be normal.

An advice: you shouldn't work unimproved tiles like you're doing in your capitol. And you should mine and work that plains hill in Bombay ( you need those :hammers: for the GL )

Just one more nitpick. :) could you next time make the same pics of the world but then a bit closer. Like you did now, but then only show half the continent. Only to show more of the surroundings of the cities.
I would change the production of madras to chariots (to scout hatty's land) and then axes (thus increasing our power) till it has grown a bit. and then build library.
How many worker do you have? you should aim for 2 per city. For techs I would go for MC and Machinery after construction.

good advice guys, as usual.

I will play the round tommorow; I've been putting off the outline of my book to do this, and I need some time to formulate that.

Round 4: 140 AD-980 AD
Another building round, but my military is finally up to scratch.
I started off by moving the warrior towards the black area and he stumbled on this:

Picture1-2.png

It's always nice to know that my first target is a holy city.
Then a demand:

Picture2-2.png

I took a very long and hard look at this. If I declined, it was likely that he would declare war on me, and I didn't have enough axemen to take on his praets. Therefore, I gave in to his demands.
More intel came from hatty's borders:

Picture3-3.png

Well, she finally got around to pasturing those horses. they won't help, however, against elephants.

A few turns later, Peter came with a request:

Picture4-2.png

Why not? I had learned everything I needed to know, so I agreed.
I picked up construction:

Picture5-2.png

My next GP was a great prophet from Delhi. I decided to use him for this:

Picture6-2.png

This led to several border towns converting, and that increased my gpt; always a good thing.
Then, in 425 AD...

Picture9-2.png

VICTORY!!!!
and as if the gods had smiled upon my good fortune...

Picture10-2.png

Well, interesting, but not unexpected. The only thing I was worried about was getting dragged into the conflict before I was ready.
I picked up MC:

Picture11-2.png

and another religion, thatks to the GS from the Glib:

Picture13-1.png

With those two techs under my belt, I went to see Hatty, seeing as she was top dog in terms of points.
Her welcome was less than royal:

Picture16-1.png

yow, I'm waaaaay behind. all of her offers were unreasonable, and so I turn to JC who was much more so:

Picture19-1.png

but then I saw this just in time:

Picture17-1.png

nice try, JC, but no dice. OB, poof!

and the beeline terminated here:

Picture20-1.png

I stopped there, but there is some more info from hatty. look what she did with her GP!

Picture18-1.png

more shiny wonders for me!

Comments before the state of the world post?

heck yea, but i'm not sure that I t will pick up the sheep...
I actually have a settler that was supposed to go get that Iron, where should I setle him? you cananswer this after the SotC post, and as soon as i get this mouse working...[pissed]

Two little regards ( before the state of the world :p ):
- Finish hatty fast; probably the other continent is preparing to go Optics ( a good way to have a idea is to see if the Collosus is done elsewhere; AI tend to finish it at the same time they get Machinery ) and you don't need diplo minus for declaring war to their friend :crazyeye:
- You'll need a lot of workers to develop Hatty's land ( lots of uncut jungle = :yuck: ). Whip them, it's better that to build them.

rolo, AFAIK, the colossus has not been built, but I don't have any forges or coastal cities to check.:crazyeye: I also usually see in my games that the most technologically advanced civs are those on my continent, since I am usually the first to alphabet and we are constantly trading with one another.
I am somewhat worried about this game, more than I usually am. at this stage, true to my title as a enlightened warmongerer, I will be running away with the techs and have a large, well-developed infrastructure and economy from which I can aim for a space race or a domination. I think I did several stupid things; One, I wasted too much time chasing wonders. Usually, I don't bother with stonehenge, I let my religion pop those borders. Two, I became overconfident about my enemies and didn't plan well enough for a qiuck land and power-grab, something that to me, is incredibly common on noble. As soon as I do the State of the world post and find my mouse :p, I will play a game as Rome and try a massive land- grab along with an agressive foreign policy. Finally, I didn't war early enough, something that could have been averted by not going after the wonders.

Ah well. the past is history, so I might as well win well, or die in glory.

Its not that you build to many wonders, its that you started them to early. Before founding at least 2 cities. Its noble. You have time to found 2 or 3 cities before going wonder happy. Now is the perfect opurtunity to make up for it. Join peter ASAP when your ready for it.
Does hatty have construction?

I was saying to check on the F9 Wonders (the graphs page); if someone has done it, it will appear in the list of built wonders, and if it says Collosus ( Unknow) it was built by someone that you don't know ( ergo someone in the other continent) .Checking it regularly may give you hints of what the AI have as techs ( If you missed the " X wonder was built in a far away land")

I don't think that this game is getting bad. From what you said, you like a good early warmongering and not having it is giving you the itches ( isn't it? :D ). But you have good land ( and Hatty's is also good ) and with extensive cottaging your tech rate will be far higher anyone in your continent. Make your Hatty war ( maybe your last one  ), and develop the land (you'll need cash to the culture slider be effective). But you'll need a gazilion workers to cut that jungle and that should be your number one priority ( that and throwing JC into Peter and vice versa  )
