Yohn smiled. Today had been quite good. First he managed to compl;ete his contract for twenty spears for the Yahkman army. Then at the market, he managed to sell of a variety of gardening implements he'd made at the market. He enjoyed blacksmithing, and during times where he had no contracts he often made such things. Some for friends and family, others to sell at the Market. Usually he could sell three or four things during marketday. This time his stock was nearly cleared out, somethings he'd made back in december and he feared he'd never manage to sell would no longer take up space in his cellar. Oh and he managed to part that Merchant fool with a gold piece, far more than that hunting spear was worth. The fellow was a good barganer, but had no idea of the items worth.

And now the parade. Yohn liked the parades, it reminded him of how fine life was. He was a master balacksmith of a master empire, none of surrounding clans could compete with them. A new batch of slaves marched past him (rather, there captors marched, the slaves dragged their feet, and were either consumed with self pity and fear, or glaring out at the people watching them) that reinforced the point. Poor fools, they were consigned to hard labour the rest of their lives. They could take pride in the fact that their sons and daughters would be part of the pround Yahkman empire though. As the last group of spearmen marched past, Yohn thought he recognized some spears of his own make. He smiled again, and then turned home. Life was good.

Music

A nice slow track by the one and only, Armin.
Armin van Buuren feat. Vera Ostrova - What If

The bass in this one is very solid, one of the things I like about CG
Cosmic Gates:- F.A.V.

A nice long set of tracks from Ferry Corsten. If you want to just play these one after the other then its about 30 minutes worth of Trance Techno, so it should be more than enough to last you the update. Enjoy!

Update 1: Year 1-200
The Trumpets of Conquest

Some have said that war is in a man’s blood. That he cannot escape the constant struggle against others. We see this proven true as the Yahkma have expanded violently to the south towards Attica. As Emperor Rudgar’s final act before he died, he ordered his forces to conquer more lands for the “Glory of the Yahkma Empire”. His army obediently followed his commands to the letter and marched south, knocking over every village chief they encountered with brutal efficiency and enslaving entire villages at times. Rudgar’s son, Rudgar II or more commonly referred to by his people as Rudgar the Great (and equally as commonly known to his conquered foes as Rudgar the Terrible), continued his fathers work. Ordering more territory to be conquered until finally the Yahkma encountered the people of Attica. Their first encounter was pleasant enough and Rudgar, despite his will to conquer seemingly the entire world, decided that peace would be the best option for his people. With his only means of expansion by land cut off Rudgar II sought a way to expand his reach even further. Upon the advice of his counselors he ordered the commandeering of local fisher’s boats in order to sail across the great sea in hopes of finding islands that some claimed to be close by. This method of expansion however did not go as well as planned as the fishing boats were not made to survive the open sea, nor did anyone have any clue how to navigate the dangerous waters. Consequentially the majority of the ships Rudgar took, as well as many of his soldiers who sailed them, perished. However the fabled island was discovered, there by staying the execution of Rudgar’s former counselors for the time being. With the triumph of expansion firmly under his belt, Rudgar set about securing his hold on the lands he now possessed. His first nation wide edict as Emperor was that all villages of 500 people or more must build a monument to Rudgar’s greatness and this monument was ordered to be kept up at all times under pain of death. This coincided with the creation of a new court dubbed “the Court of the Wise”, which is said to be the center of Yahkma engineering brilliance. Though the former edict was widely unpopular, and at times saw open defiance and subsequent annihilation by some villages, it fulfilled its intended purpose, which was to forcefully cultivate brilliant engineers and in some cases sculptures. This has caused the Court of the Wise to become one of the most well known buildings within Yahkma City and has caused a spike in immigration to the capital.

In Attica, contrary to their northern neighbors, life has continued as it has for generations. Most Atticans however have sought to capitalize on the new presences of the Yahkma by opening open trade relations with them. King Michelos III has dipped his hands into the treasury with the intent of boosting this new trade opportunity, via subsidizing current businesses as well as new businesses. This has caused a large spike in trade between Yahkma and Attica, particularly on the Attican side where many traders aggressively expanded their interests in Yahkma. Many have taken advantage of the lack of established economic structures within Yahkma to capitalize on the slightly more impoverished villages. This has had both negative and positive effects for both nation’s economies. Their populations have begun to mix due to the open nature of trade, however Attica has experienced a large influx of refugees seeking to escape the harsh ruler of Rudgar the Great (or Terrible) for the much more lax rule of King Michelos III. Though most people within Attica are mostly indifferent towards this new wave of migration some conservative elements within the capital have voiced their concerns that the blood line of the Attica people may be diluted with “less pure” off spring.

After the defeat of the Dak by the Kingdom of Inda the Inda went on the offensive. They rapidly mobilized their forces in an assault on the last strong hold of the Dak, who though defeated in their initial attack, were not yet broken. It seemed however, that the end for the Dak was near. King Nalare had moved 300 spearmen, marching slowly across Dak island towards the Dak last remaining village. While these 300 were pushing their way deeper into Dak territory, Nalare had ordered his fleet to move to the northern tip of the island. On these ships however, were not only sailors, but soldiers. With his ships in place Nalare engaged Dak forces in a frontal assault, drawing their attention away from the coast. For the time being their forces were evenly matched and it seemed that the fighting between Nalare and the Dak would go down to the last man, but just as all seemed lost, 200 hundred of the King’s men could be seen marched from the coast. Seeing this, the Dak immediately threw down their weapons, pleading for peace. Though the Dak’s betrayal would forever be remembered, the King decided to grant them peace. With that, Nalare had successfully conquered Dak island, spreading the influence of the Inda people to new heights. Upon his victory Nalare returned to Inda, leaving a token force on Dak, and set his sights on conquering the rest of Inda island. It would be Nalare’s son, Rilen Nalare II, who would carry out his fathers plans as shortly after returning to Inda he died of old age (being well over 70). Nalare II set out with a force of 1000 to subdue the territory south of the capital. Little resistance was to be had as word of his fathers accomplishments had spread quickly to the southern tribes and the majority of them simply welcomed Nalare II into their village, swearing loyalty to him and the Inda Kingdom. This allowed Nalare II to secure the majority of the island, but as he moved south he has faced increasingly hostile tribes.

In the east the Thersaria people have continued their peaceful existence, not much changing aside from a minor expansion of their territory. The Council of Thersaria has built a new city, much to the liking of the people and they have taken rather well to it. Other than that the Thersaria people live as they have always lived, in peace, expanding their territory slightly every now and then, sometimes peacefully taking over surrounding tribes.

Quite unlike the Thersaria the Aralthon have violently expanded their territory. Seran Ashbar’s last act as King was to organize a campaign to the north. Many in Aralthon were curious as to why he amassed such a large force to march north, however many did not know what Ashbar knew. He had recently discovered the presences of a rival nation, Arcadia. Ashbar was able to martial his force, readying the invasion however it would be his son who would lead the assault, as Ashbar himself, died just as they were about to set out. This did not stop Seran Ashbar II from taking command and with just as much efficiency as his father, Ashbar II marched out to the north. All the while the Arcadians, who were barely aware of the existence of the Aralthon people, set out up along the Arcadia river to conquer more lands. Their expedition was cut short as reports of raids on their southern border. This was due to Ashbar II sending waves of the infamous Ashbar’s Angels to terrorize the southern border of Arcadia. Slowly the horseback riding females pushed much of the Arcadian population back towards their capital, strategically hitting outlining villages and forcing the people to abandon their homes. This has triggered a wave of refugees who now have come to Taltin, the capital of Arcadia, in droves. However this was not the end to Ashbar II’s plans, he had ordered his infantry forces to follow behind the wake of the Angels. What followed was a path of conquest that would be remembered by the Arcadians for eternity. The Aralthon forces moved from village to village, brutally conquering them and pillaging anything of value. This pillaging would not be complete without raping of course, and the Aralthon were happy to oblige, as they stole women and even children from the villages, whisking them off to their capital. When Emperor Leuri got wind of this he immediately rerouted his forces, abandoning his conquest trail and marching south to meet Ashbar’s army. He did arrive in time to save his capital, but he was not, however, in time to mount an effective counter attack. Instead he quickly set up defenses inside the capital and awaited a siege from Ashbar. His forces quickly surrounded Taltin and obliged the Emperor with what he wanted, a siege. Both forces were happy to sit where they were, Leuri within his walls and Ashbar surrounding the city, systematically raiding and pillaging, not to mention raping, surrounding villages of their goods and women. The Aralthon have demanded that Leuri and the Arcadians move across the river or be destroyed and obviously the Emperor has refused. The Aralthon followed through with their threat and launched their forces against the city however it would prove to be a losing battle as they did not have enough forces to overwhelm the Arcadians, who were valiantly defending their city, and in particular the black and white pillar. When Ashbar called his forces back from their failed assault on the city the Arcadian Goddess of Light and Dark finally made her presence known. Her figure was huge, dressed in a mixture of black and white robes with a great white spear in her right hand and a towering black square shield in her left. Here she floated for a few moments before letting out a piercing cry to the Ashbar forces that echoed throughout all of Arcadia and then disappearing. This only speed up Ashbar’s retreat and caused some of his soldiers to break ranks, fleeing in terror. However Ashbar was able to gain control of his army after a few moments of shouting and running deserters down on horseback. Now Ashbar still surrounds the Arcadian capital but his forces have been significantly reduced and Emperor Leuri may have a chance to strike back at the now weakened foe. Time will tell, but it is clear that the Goddess of Light and Dark has demanded the blood of Aralthon, will she get it.

Back in the Aralthon home land efforts to expand their territory over the flood plains have been resisted by minor tribes. Without the aid of the army much of what Aralthon claimed has gone on conquered and unsettled however major funding has gone towards expanding agriculture through out the currently occupied flood plains. This has paid off as a large boom in population as well as a surplus in grain. However the majority of this surplus has gone to feeding the army as it moved north to engage Arcadia. As the agricultural complexity grows in Aralthon, so does the significance of water and rivers in their culture.

Notes:
Sorry for the lateness in posting this. I got rather lazy and played Rome: Total War instead of doing the update. But I did start the update when I said I would.

Stats will come tomorrow. I will hopefully include a brief description of your nation this time. Maybe I'll get around to some rule clarifications to. Also Archers are now available!!!

Orders are due on the Tuesday 11th of August.

To: Yahkma
From: Atticium, City of the Gods

It is vital that we discuss your aggressive expansionism and the further development of Attican-Yahkmani relations as soon as your leaders are available. We do not appreciate this rapid and unexpected deployment of forces near our borders, and are unsure as to why you did not see fit to forewarn us of your southward ambitions.

I assume the pillaging has to have come from somewhere, and along with the loss of land, Arcadia will take a hit to its economy yeah?

OOC: Nice update, but a question: What happened to the city I bought?

@Adrogans- Forgot to add in cities.

@Abaddon- The majority of your income came from raiding women, which were sold into either prostitution or slavery. The women did not have an economic value like the one your people gave them.

To Attica
From Yahkma:

Perhaps the fact that we didn't know of any other great cultures that can almost rival ours (that would be you) existed? And it's hardly like we could expand in a different direction, you saw out attempt to seek land over the sea. We are also sure that you should be aware that we seek to expand further, but not at the expense of your nation.

Now what did I miss...

Good thing I saw that one coming:( (). Abaddon, whether I lose or not, you can be assured that you shall receive some serious damage (some people know this first hand :mischief:). Peace, of course, is out of the question (because I don't trust you).

houldn't the "Court of the Wise" be under Great Projects/Wonders? That what I meant it to be.

It was completed unless it was suppose to do something more than what it did (the cultural center). You didn't really explain it very well.

In the future please tell me what specific bonuses you want your project to have, and I will see how long it will take.
