XCOM Squad!?

I personally like it. I'm glad they are adding another futuristic unit into the game. Who cares what it's called or that it's from another game.
 
In the repeat demo this morning, they treated the XCom unit pretty seriously - paratrooper upgrade.
 
I was a bit annoyed that they used up whatever precious time they had (top priority was to get to those irritating BL2 fans) they chose to burn it up with another round of messing with the XCom unit. Amusing, yes, but I am watching for BNW news, not a nod to a completely different game.

I actually just looked up on wikipedia and XCOM even means "Extraterrestrial Combat Unit".

They could call them Buzz Lightyears for all I care. They look cool.
 
No one uses GDR's either, which is where they will be on the tech tree. 110 strength on an infantry unit is beyond modern armor and mechanized infantry.
 
I'm fine with XCOM, but I hope that there isn't going to be a tech called XCOM project. Something at least a little more subtle there would be nice.

They havn't put it in for a 'joke' its simply a marketing strategy. New XCOM content is coming out...

So some marketing woman no doubt says "I have a great idea, lets put introduce an XCOM unit into a game people are actually going to buy to serve as a constant advert which costs us nothing"

Not that people don't play XCOM anyways, I do, I'm sure a few others do, but this to me isn't just an Easter Egg, its shameless marketing...
 
Which is the growing trend regardless. Blizzard/EA has been doing it for a while now, and probably others. Not sure why it needs to be a woman? But the idea was in place long before a potential XCom unit gets added to Civ.

Thirded. Drones would be an actual welcome unit unlike some of the fake future units. Looks like Axemen are back in this expansion at least...

That's what hurts the most, I think that's a poor strategy for any game. WEll, you know, we could always try to lobby Firaxis to remove the unit.
