Ainwood would certainly know more about this than me. However, my understanding is that they are mostly related to Windows Hooks. E.g. the part of the application which gives it partial integration with CIV. If so, they're not even necessary, although certainly nice to have.

This point had been talked before. IIRC, is not easy to know if the AI will trade with gpt (something related with your reputation ).

IIRC Ainwood said that CAII uses something of Windows (I'm not a programmer!) to make sure that the first click in the game don't take any action, only to put the game in the main window. Don't remember if uses anything else, but for sure is not all in .Net (as Abegweit said).

@ Sercer88, @ThinkTank, Maybe if you search this thread you will find this info.

Anyway, somebody who knows more can help on these topics, just my 2 cents, hope not to be wrong.

There are a lot of windows hooks - translating to java would be a massive task, and I'm not overly keen on giving away the source code - sorry.

BTW - GPT is 1.) Difficult and 2.) a spoiler. It won't be added.

Sorry I haven't been paying much attention to this thread. At best I might upgrade ti to .Net 3.

How about bug fixes? The corruption calculations for non-standard-sized maps are still off.

Ok, I can understand #1, but #2???

I really don't see how this is a spoiler, since you can go into the diplomacy screen and easily find out how much gpt (over break-even) the AI has. (I believe Civ 3 Complete has it...)
1)Go to a civ
2)offer 200 gold (or any value, really)
3)ask for 1 gpt.
a)if anything but "they will never accept this deal" then they have at least this much extra gpt
b)if "they will never accept this deal," then either they don't have extra gpt, or you have ruined your trade rep, and they won't do gpt deals
4)if they can trade gpt (see 3.a) then ask for higher and higher gpt deals until they "will never accept this deal."

Your scheme would require that you have 200 gold to offer in the first place. And to know exactly how much the AI would offer for what you currently have would probably be impossible.

You could even use 1 gold...and no, it's not impossible, I've done it hundred's of times, maybe even a thousand or more (which is why I've asked if Civ Assist could do it, since it can be a fairly lengthy process.)

I'm having trouble getting Civassist to work. I have it installed in Programs/Civassist and the program runs, but when I start Civ, the system locks up and creeps. I'm running Civ complete which is in an Atari folder rather than Firaxis and the save files are buried in teh Atari subfolders. Would that mess it up? My system is P4 1.8 gHz 1 gig RAM running Win XP.
Am I understanding correctly, you start civ assist, then launch civ 3?

I don't think it matters which you start first: Civ Assist or Civ III. Maybe the utility is looking for save games and not finding any since Civ III is in your Atari folder...but I am not the one who knows how to remedy that.

When I have both programs running ( & CAII) my screen in narrowed. Two black bars on either side of the screen when I'm playing whereas it's full screen when CAII isn't running. Am I missing a quick fix to this?

I've tried starting one and then the other; no change.

Hi. I was having the same problem so I did my due diligence, digging back a ways into the thread to see if the solution already existed. Unfortunately, that link produced the same result I've been getting:

Using Firefox 2.0.0.9 on Windows XP. When I use the forum's d/l links to try downloading CivAssist II, I get a dialog box headed by 'Opening CivAssist_II_Setup.msi', then in the body: 'You have chosen to open CivAssist_II_Setup.msi which is a: Windows Installer Package from: http://gotm/civfanatics.net. Would you like to save this file?' The buttons are 'Save File' and 'Cancel', except that 'Save File' is greyed out and doesn't ungrey even after waiting a few minutes, so the only thing one can do is cancel.

Can anyone suggest what I need to do? I'm really looking forward to trying this add-in after all the positive reviews.

Yes. That is because firefox is waiting for a response, whilst downloading in the background I think. Just wait a few seconds (depending on your download speed) - the "save" button will activate.

I tried that; in fact, I tried waiting about five minutes, because that has worked in other situations. But it didn't work here. In any event, I fired up IE and was able to download it with no trouble. Excellent utility: very polished, very informative, a great game-enhancer. Never want to play without it again. So thanks for your hard work on it, and for taking time to reply to my download issue.

Hey, my thing gets an error when I try to load it. I haven't read through the whole thread but could someone help? When i try to debug it says its not available.
Heres the error:Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process id=0x1e48 (7752), Thread id=0x1b30 (6960).
Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.

If I run it in compatability mode or administrative mode it says the same thing.
When i run them both together, I get CLR error :80004005. The program will now terminate.

You may be right. I am running Vista on my machine with only one account and everything works just fine, no errors or compatability problems. Everything installed without a hitch and runs just fine. I also disabled User Account Control first thing after installing Vista, though I don't know how that would make much of a difference.

I tried to follow Bede's advice but was getting nowhere. I couldn't run CAII as an adminstrator as I wasn't given that option. I really am not getting on too well with Vista.

Disabling User Account Control worked just fine though!

If you are the only user on a Vista machine, you are automatically the Administrator. When you right click on an executable, it should show "Run as administrator" with a 4 colored shield next to it, as one of the options near the top. If there is more than one user and you aren't the Administrator the option probably won't show. You should use that when installing any versions of .NET and CAII.

Glad to hear that.

User Account Control is probably the one thing I don't like about Vista. It gets in the way when you are trying to do things, which is kind of funny because you wouldn't be changing settings unless you were sure that you wanted to change them (it does provide some extra security in Internet Explorer 7 and adds file virtualization or something like that to make your files more secure though). The nice part is that once you disable UAC, it never bothers you again. You have to be careful disabling it though, because there's some software that if you install while UAC is enabled, the software won't work properly once you disable UAC. It's best to turn it off as soon as you install Vista, or leave it on and live with it. (when you try to diable UAC, it pops up asking you if you're sure. )

Weird, i have no idea.

You can install CAII as administrator, but when you run it it doesn't give you the option, i just checked.

I got an idea and logged on as administrator and gave my user account full permissions for the file. The run as administrator now works.

When I run it though, I cannot see my save folder. I have this problem outside of Civ Assist, when downloading save files, but got around it by loading saves to a folder I can see. Is there some way to make the Civ3 save folder visible outside of the game?
