Update Five - AD 1539 - 1540

Tsar Ivan gets crowned in the Cathedral of Ivanograd by the Patriachs of Constaintople and Moscow.

In a joint cermony the Patriachs of Constantinople and Moscow jointly crowned Tsar Ivan, Emperor of all Russia in the grand cathedral in Ivanagrod. This seals the rise to power of the Russian Empire, which must now be looked upon with some measure of respect as it has attained prominence. In a seperate cermony the Patriachs acknowledged each other as their equals.

The Patriach of Constantinople left soon afterwards travelling across Polish territory to confer with allies that would perhaps see the Holy State's resurrection against the heathen Ottomans.

England invades Scotland

King Henry VIII declared that 'Britain must be united, and if not by diplomacy, then by arms. Declaring war on the United Kingdoms of Scotland and Ireland, the English armies fresh from their success in northern France marched into Scotland. Glasgow, the second most populous city in Scotland was captured after a short month long seige. The English army then begun to march on Edingburgh, however was halted with the Royal Scottish Regiments, causing a stalemate that has lasted for the last few months.

Meanwhile Scotland tried a counter-attack in Ireland, and had some success, however the English retained a toehold and the Protestant Irish who have lived under English dominion for the last two decades have begun to fight the Gaelic forces of 'liberation'.

In North Wales a small contingent of Welsh Lords disavowed their oaths of loyalty to the King of England, declaring their banners now lie with the Scotish King. Scotland quickly landed troops, however the English army began the quest of reconquering the rebellious lands, and the Royal Navy has enacted a blockade of the rebellious regions cutting it off from further support from Edingburgh.

Finally in North America, Jamesland faced off against the English forces in the 'Royal Colonies' of New York and New England. The number of forces roughly corresponded, England with a few less, but superior quality troops to the Scottish numbers. The result led to minor skirmishing along the border with some border settlements on both sides of the borders captured, yet in both New York and New Edingburgh plans to extend the war are being drafted.

Mongol remnants form nation with help from Japan

After the massive invasion of Mongolia by China (see spotlight) The Empire of Japan supported the remnants of the Mongol hordes to create the 'Outer Mongolian Free State' which has declared itself a tribute state of the Japanese Empire. With Japanese money and arms flowing into the Mongol camps, they have begun their quest to recapture their homelands.

England gives open support for Fuzhou rebellion and helps with the creation of the Empire of Fuzhou.

The Kingdom of England acting in collusion with the Chinese officals of South America has set up a secret treaty and with a transfer of money for land, the Empire of Fuzhou was created. The Chinese regiments in the colony were under the command of those who sought to takeover. Emperor Haijin has taken the throne and declared his utter independece from the Ming Dynasty in China.

Poland-Lithuania and Hungary invade Ottoman Empire

The joint Catholic forces of Poland-Lithuania and the Kingdom of Hungary have invaded the Ottoman Empire. Hungary quickly marched down the Dalmation coast, their naval support steadily erroded by the superior Ottoman naval numbers. Meanwhile the Ottoman forces along the Hungarian border invaded striking deep into the Hungarian heartland. This was the point that Poland-Lithuania launched its major invasion, helping the Patriach of Constantinople who had left Russia asking his Muscovite counterpart to put pressure on the Tsar to give assistance.

The major problem the Christian forces faced were the immense numbers of Ottoman regiments that were able to fight on several borders at once. A major recruitment drive had raised enough regiments to ensure that the Christian forces would be easily outnumbered. This coupled with the extensive network of Star Forts that dotted the Ottoman landscape ensured that the next defensive strongpoint was only a few miles away.

The Polish secondary advance towards the Crimea was halted and in several places completely reversed with the decleration of independence by the Muslim Tatars of 'Astrakhan' This allowed the Ottomans to regain the intitaive and halt the Polish short of the Black Sea and to in some places set foot on 'Polish soil'.

Songhai invades Jolof, Fez become involved

The Empire of Songhai has continued their pattern for invading their neighbours without provocation with a third such invasion in the last decade. The Empire of Jolof, tributary to the Fez of Morocco was the target, and the Emperor of Songhai seemingly ignorant of the Fez's new arrangements thought his quarry would be easy pickings. At first there was little resistance but as the Army of Songhai advanced further they began to run into Fez troops that had been summoned by the Jolofian Emperor from Dakar, under the tributary alliance accords. The Fez troops although outnumbered possessed something closer to the state of the art weaponry and was able to prevent the further advance of the Songhai forces.

Swedish North and South Africa established

The Kingdom of Sweden has added to its growing colonial empire by establishing the colonies of North and South Africa both on the Western coast of Africa. Both colonies have borne little fruit yet and will need extensive investment to take hold however with luck they should become established over time.

Ethiopia and Yemen unites in a Royal Union.

The Emperor Dawit II of Ethiopia and Princess-Royal of Yemen have married in a lavish cermony in Se'na. The newly formed Royal Union of Yemen-Ethiopia then established the Princess Islands Colony (OTL Mauritius) and expanded its holdings. An expedition to the aptly named Lake Dawit has seen the twin states of Lunda and Luba become tribute states of the Yemeni-Ethiopian Empire. A new power has been born, however it is yet to be seen if its mix of Islamic and Christian traditions can work outside the marital bed of the royal couple.

Protestant Christian Empire invades the Holy Roman Empire

The County of the the Rhine a land of protestant christians ruled by a Catholic King was the first to suffer with the increasing tensions between the Protestants and the Catholics throughout the now divided Empire. The Proestant rebellions in the Rhineland overthrew the Catholic Wittlesbach dynasty and offered the Palinitate crown to the Count of Friesland which he gladly accepted.

This move was then seen as a decleration of war by the Holy Roman Emperor, however the Protestant Emperor was one step ahead of him and launched the immediate invasion while Fredrick was still marshalling his troops form Vienna. Luxembourg was quickly overrun by the Protestant forces, being surrounded by them, while several other Duchies of the Holy Roman Empire was invaded including Austrian Bohemia.

Duke Albert of Burgundy gained some success for the Catholic cause however with an invasion of southern Champagne in what was dubbed the 'War of the Wines'.

New York and New England united into the Union of British Royal Colonies.

The Royal Colonies of New York and New England have been united by royal proclomation by Henry VIII. The establishment of the Union of British Royal Colonies and the single government of the colonies in New York Town has seen a spike in the trade of the colony and the expansion towards the Great Lakes which was accomplished. This union also helps with the planning of the war forming a central command for the English forces in continental North America.

Rename Duch Congo, New Utercht, Dutch trade continues to grow.

The United Kingdom of the Netherlands has renamed the 'Dutch Congo', 'New Utercht'. This along with other less superficial reforms has seen the trade of the Dutch stregnthen, especially with the Anglo-Gaelic War outbreak.

Spain invade Basques-Navarre

The Kingdom of Spain invades Basques-Navarre who fall back towards mountains and their capital at the order of their Duke. There are calls in Anjou and Il-de-France to go to arms in support of Basques-Navarre, but many in those courts do not listen to such calls knowing that Spain is a behemoth they would struggle to contend with

Ayythyhan colony in Madagascar dies out through lack of contact and money, builds fortifications along their borders

The Ayythyhan Kingdom committed itself to building a large series of foritifcations along the borders of the nation to ensure that it is free from defense after several war-warnings passed through the capital, Bangkok. This intense focus on the foritifcations led to a lack of orders for the coloy astablished in Madagascar, along with the collapse of the local economy there. The latest ship to reach Bangkok has reported the colony deserted, with no bodies in the streets, its unknown what has occured to it.

Persia seeing its opportunity after declaring its neutrality in both the Christian-Ottoman War and the Oriental Grand War has sought to extend its trading networks garnering some sucess. It also invested into the colony that it holds in Madgascar growing it considerably.

Malay and Luzon-Mindano become the Chindonesian Archipegelo

China has sought to help encourage the unity of the Empire by merging its colonies in Luzon-Mindano and Malay into the Chindonesian Archipeglo. This mamoth colony is larger than most Empires itself and the new Colonial Administrative System is struggling to cope with the vast array of languages and relgions

Islam begins to spread in southern Portugal and Fez South America through missonary emirs

The relgion of Islam has begun to spread in the Fez territory of South America and the region of Oporto which is now under the dominance of the Fez. The islands in the Atlantic and the South American colonists great the emirs warmly but the occupied Portugese at first heap scorn on the travelling and preeching emirs. It is only until relgious tolerance is stressed that several mosques are built in Portugal and Moroccan familes begin to take over abandoned farms.

The Aztec Empire has begin the production of Deathstaffs, which are cylindrical in design, and often their wooden sections are ornately carved. Production is slow, but the response form the largely indigenous forces that have battled the Aztecs recently is that of manifest panic at first.

The Incan Empire continued its westward expansion however war clouds loom with the independence of the Empire of Fuzhou and the belligernce towards China displayed by the English colonists in the Plate.

Spotlight: The invasion of China: the double stab!

The Ming Emperor began 1539 with a grand invasion of the northern wastelands that were home to the pestilence of Mongol hordes forever snapping at his northern flank. His grand army marched north, much to the glee of the Japanese and Mughal spies which had been sent to various parts of the Ming Empire, corrupting the Confucious ideal from the inside.

The formation of the Chinese led Grand Alliance was quickly followed by the announcement of the Sub-Continental Alliance between the Mughal Empire and the Hindu Indian states. These states quickly invaded the Chinese tribute states of Burma when the Mughals using their agreements in the secret accords with the Shan States invaded China from the west, which was left thinly defended. The Chinese Emperor was lucky in the tenacity of the individual Chinese pesant and the fact that the local lords took it upon themselves to build the necessary forces to help stop the Mughal Empire despite the use of the Mughal Empire autocannons, which had some seize up and explode due to faulty mechanics.

This invasion from the west which sent forces from Mongolia already was followed up by a Japanese attack on Formosa, Okinawa and an invasion of the Chinese mainland itself. In particular the city of Peking was captured after a brutal seige in which fire, floods and other nefarious schemes were used to cause the city to fall. The Ming Emperor escaped and is with his forces now on campaign, and his rousing speech promising the liberation of Peking from the 'eastern dwarf barbarians'

The Javanese saw this as an excuse to declare their independence from China and Maori with the support of the Mughals. The Chosun and Annamese disavowed their tribute status to China, the Chosun invading the Ming Empire in Manchuria and the Annamese invading and occupying the Chinese tribute state of Cochin China and its capital of Saigon.
