B03: The Spanish Inquisition

Inquisiting Roster:
- Pope Beorn II > on "vacation" and plotting to assasinate us after coming back to the academy
- Pope Goes-The-Weasel II > just gone to heaven
- Pope Chunky II > upand plotting to assasinate the immortal Weasel
- Pope Plisken I > on deck and carrying a big knife :ninja: to succseed Chunky
- Pope MadViking I > bewildered. nobody wants to assasinate me?

this is subject to his Bearness's will.

any one of the upcoming popes can feel free to grab it.
meaning Chunky "the ape" barbar, Plisken "the young" II or Mad "the viking" II.

just post an i got it. after the 3 of you have had your terms in office, Bigbear can play again (unless he wants to earlier than that, in which case - leaders perogative...).

The reason I started putting numbers by names is that it is easier to track down who played his 10-set of a given roster turn.

'Official' Inquisiting Roster:
- Pope Beorn III
- Pope Goes-The-Weasel III
- Pope Chunky II <- Up
- Pope Plisken II <- Next
- Pope Viking-The-Mad II

Like that, we see who has played 2 turns (the upcoming 'Pope III') and who has yet to play a 2nd turn ('Pope II'). I took my turn early because I knew I'd have very little of a week-end ;)

I started this game thinking I could start working something up for the roster - I tried making a different way of rolling it around in B01, which worked rather bad, but I'm not discouraged.

IMHO There's got to be a way to keep it rolling that is not unlike the old fashionned way, but is more user-friendly for people with temporarily tough schedules and such. Seeing as I've got Viking and Chunky here who haven't played dozens of SG's, I didn't want to go on and confuse (further) hell out of them. I'm good enough at being totally unclear like that, no need to further it up.

For the record (and if you guys are crazy enough to try) I was thinking about writing duration of Papacy instead of turn, at first. That way, we first and foremost try to follow the roster order. Nothing like the old way - but when trouble comes for a player, he can take 5 or 15, in foresight or in catch-up.

That way, we keep track of how many turns a player has played (now the roster would be 20-20-10-10-10 right here right now) and we keep the game even for that respect. It also would allow for a Pope to retrieve 5 turns off his recorded years for an anarchy turn, for instance.

Comments and suggestions very welcome, this is a blueprint of something I definitely will try implementing (like in B04, one day...) because the turn system is good but not too user-friendly, and leads to gaps and momentum loss in a SG - a thing that could be improved.

Hmmmm...I don't like the idea of being so darn close to an enemy city. I'll settle where it's not so cramped.

Got it, done by tomorrow most likely.

Oh Tribute, you brought up a good point. Let's say it will be a psychological conquest win when there are only those right-wing religious republican americans, the pope-holders and ourselves on the map.

I myself will be fully content with that goal achieved.

Yeah but wait, I'll find something ... (...) (...) the figures were wrong :p Ha!

i'm not sure which post i'm supposed to translate... or is it all of them? :rotfl: :bounce: If I'm looking at the correct post, he's doing some kind of zen mantra that goes"no mining ancient age food bonus, om. Must clean the lavs at the academy, before the wrath falls. delegate, drunk on own power"

Thanks for the enlightenment, Admiral. I'll meditate on this :worship:

Gah. I'm not really feeling up to playing this week. I've got this tennis camp that goes from 9AM to 4PM. Next person can play.

Just tell us whenever you can/want to play them, Chunky, and we'll dig a hole in the roster so you can catch up, if you want to.

Alright, I've started playing, and I have a suggestion.

Africa is cut off, so we can't go around into the Indian Ocean that way. I suggest we make a Suez Canal. I have a settler and a galley ready, and we could get there in about 4 turns. The spot is NE of the horse and is surrounded by rivers, so it's easily defendable. Our exploration will be able to continue too.

It is pretty far away, and will have bad corruption. There aren't many shields around the site anyway, though, so it won't matter. It will have a ton of food though.

Should I (well, it will be the next person, actually) build there?

in a nutshell - YES!!!
if we build there we control both exits to the medditerean sea.
we get a shipping-lane to the far east.
and we control ALL of northen africa.
we can protect it easily with very few troops - just get some walls up
and africa - like i said before seems much easier to occupy now,.

grab the canal, call it Israel, and see everyone try to wipe it off the face of the map.
if we keep it well stoked with defenders, we can keep it up forever.

After looking at it more, I figured the pros far outweighed the cons. Still wanted to get a second opinion. There are some gems down farther south on the east side of Africa. This is more important though. The AIs are much closer to this spot than the gems.

I was going to call it Suez...

EDIT: Instead of double posting, I'll just put my log here.

REIGN OF POPE PLISKIN II

Pre-turn – Lower lux to 0%, Sci to 70%, Currency due in 11, +2gpt.

IBT – French start Oracle.

1150 (1) – Madrid settler->settler. Found Zaragoza ->temple.

1125 (2) – There is no way around Africa. The map cuts Africa off, meaning there’s no quick way around to the Indian Ocean. Perhaps we should build a city to make a Suez Canal? NW of the horse, inside the river deltas.
Increase lux to 10%.

1100 (3) – SWD spear->worker. Seville galley->barracks. Murcia galley->barracks.
Land both settlers on the north African coast. The southern city (with the wheat, iron, wines, and fish) also has incense SE of the hill.

1075 (4) – Bearish Hunger barracks->sword. Found Pamplona ->spear. Found Vitoria ->temple.

IBT – Our people want to build the Forbidden Palace.

1050 (5) – Madrid settler->settler (for the gems in south African east coast). SWD worker->worker.

IBT – Vikings start Great Lighthouse.

1025 (6) – Lower sci to 60%, currency due in 4, +5gpt. Rush the temple in Zaragoza for 96 gold.

DAMN IT!! Arabia settled Khurasan SE of the horse on the IBT…there is still room to settle to get a canal up, but the risk of flipping will be greater…oh well. Even in the old place, the flip risk would have been rather high.

1000 (7) – SWD worker->worker. Valencia temple->worker. Zaragoza temple->worker.

Monotheism will be researched soon, which is when we begin AW with Arabia. Now that I think about it, maybe we should wait on settling Suez (or Israel…) until then.

A settler is still traveling to the spot by the cow and furs, along with a spear companion one turn behind.

After the grief from loosing the prime spot for Suez, Pope Pliskin II passes away at a young age (actually, I only played 7 turns to even the turns out).

I don't see a need to post another pic. The only major difference is Khurasan is now located SW of the horses by Suez.

well, after living in Israel for quite a few years now, and knowing the history of the area...
Palestine would do too.
Suez is a new place.
add to that the fact that there was ALWAYS a "silk road" via the area...

just call it something nice ;)

well, 2 bad about the canal situation.
since were going to war very soon, might as well provide the arabs with a nice thick target to skew thier Ansars on, right.

my vote is build it, rush the temple, rush the spear, rush the walls. meanwhile get a couple of galleyloads of spears in.
get a rax in.
upgrade to pike and wait.
since it will be thier nearest battle area (we are buffered really good, with julius's troops) lets let them burn thier GA on this town.
i suggest, since we have a definite war date, to get cracking with the preperations.

and you had me doubt my eyesight, IroP.

EDIToh, the roster should go something like this:
the viking, the bear and then the weasel.
i could be mistaken though. having 3 :crazyeye:  wannabe Idiots in a row....
