Shall we play another game?

Round 7: Meet the new neighbors and engage an old enemy.

I made some trades to start the round. I know I said I wanted to stop trading with Vicky but I want to get all my cavs techs researched ASAP.

Lib in 680 AD. I may have been able to self research nationalism and then take Military tradition but I didn't think it was worth the risk.

I switched over to free religion so Brennus would trade with me and also so I could research gunpowder and mil trad a bit quicker.

Nice to get these from Brennus rather than Vicky.

Lahore and Karachi go up. Maintenance expenses continue to rise. I need some war booty!!

civ4screenshot0071wb3.jpg

Looks like trading with Brennus is over for the game. Since Vicky is my only option, I'll switch over to OR to get some stuff built.

Too expensive I know but I want to get engineering for the trebs and extra movement.

civ4screenshot0075mn1.jpg

I saved up 3 GSs and bulbed printing press and most of chemistry

civ4screenshot0077xj1.jpg

I met Ramesses soon thereafter and I made a trade. I'd like to get astronomy quickly to get some trade routes going.

civ4screenshot0078cl0.jpg

I met HC next. Our religious differences made trading impossible. I was running theocracy at this point to get some CR2 trebs. I'll switch the FR soon.

Let the games begin!

I'm also rushing constitution to switch to representation. Unfortunately, I forgot to switch civics for at least 10 turns because I was at war with Brennus.

Brennus had a pike and a couple longbows defending. My cavs ran right over him.

civ4screenshot0084kb1.jpg

The AI really devalues Lib after the race has been won so I was happy enough to make this trade.

I took three cities in total and then gave him peace. I wanted his map and I also want to start on Toku. I should be able to rip through him pretty quickly without cats or trebs.

civ4screenshot0087bd4.jpg

10 cities left on this rock. I don't see Brennus getting rifles or Toku getting longbows before I'm done. As soon as I get astronomy, I'm going to build a bunch of galleons to invade Vicky.

Do grenadiers work against redcoats?

I'm in a rush to get astro and economics for the trade routes. Vicky switched over to merc so I did to but I would love a bunch of trade routes with Ramesses and HC.

Well done! Cav rush is indeed one of the best strats of CivIV (until BTS arrives  )

One question: do you think its likely to Vicky put a large number of redcoats in field? She doen't have PP, so you only need astro to put cavs in the field ( well, you don't really need astro for that, but Galleons >>> Galleys and Trirremes  ) to get a large chunk of her empire before the first redcoat appears. But I must reckon than Toku must die first ( IMHO he's just a waste of space, and that "we Yearn to join (blahblah)" thing is annoying )

Do grenadiers work against redcoats?

They can handle them, but expect heavier casualties ( thanks god it's Vicky and not the bulldog!). Those CR axes are good to upgrade... ( too bad that your next GG probably will not appear during a possible 3rd Jap war... )

A idea: How about cannons? Steel is 10 turns away at your current research pace and they play well with cavs ( specially when rifles start to appear :D ). Of course that Astro and Eco is first :( (you need to get out of Merc after Astro ....)

That GS in your capitol : settle , Academy, or bulbing? ( Do you plan to use 2 GS for SciMet? )

One last thing: Do you think that someone is still to appear from the fog?

Yeah, if Vicky is strongest, why not trim her back ASAP?

Seems like Brennus and Toku will still be relatively weak whenever you get back to them; Vicky not as much.

By ASAP I mean something like, whip two Galleys in each of your 4 coastal cities, then ferry your army to a neutral spot on Vicky's continent.

Maybe you could even take the three southern Japanese cities while your army is on its way to the east coast.

It all depends on how long it takes me to get these 10 cities. Time moves fast on normal speed so Vicky may get to rifling before I get to her. All my cavs will have pinch by the time I get there so they'll have a chance.

Cannons sound good. Maybe I should research Steel first. I could trade it for astro and economics as well.

There is definitely one civ left - dead or alive that is. I'd like to met him/her soon to get another trading partner.

It's a thought. I'd have to hold off on that bank to build some galleys in Delhi. I can't whip anything right now as I'm not running slavery and my civ is pretty dependent on the scientists from caste system.

Well, Spiritual... as long as you're not dependent on specialists for wealth, you can dip in, do the deed, and dip out. But you know that.

@ Jet I don't think that Pete2006 should go to slavery. Like hhe stated, he is in a race against Vicky research ( 3 techs to Rifling )and going to slavery you hurt a lot his research...

@ Pete2006

Steel will not be a great tech coin for exchange ( at least for now )... Almost no one has Chem. And I wouldn't be too much suprised if the last civ is dead or severely "damaged"... HC and Ramesses as neighbours = not good ....

You better hurry to get Vicky at time, those two fellows will stay weak for a while. There is some neutral land on Vicky's island - you don't even need that many ships. Her southernmost cities are low on culture, which means you don't even need trebs with you in the beginning!

What is your victory plan? Domination should be doable with early steel. No one else having chemistry sound good.

I like the idea of sending my cavs east and finishing off Toku along the way. Then shipping them over to Vicky's land.

Very nice turnset so far. I would conquer your island first. By that time you will have assembly line and infantry eat red coats for lunch. And with a huge chunk of land and enormous production power it wouldn't be hard to conquer Vicky who can never muster the same power you can.

Personnally I would take out Brennus first. The city in Japanese land is propably lightly defended and his 3 northern towns can be done in 1 tour. Then with Brennus out of the way, Toku should be next. Does he still have only longbows? Because that will give you a margin to finish Brennus first. After the whole campaign you can use Parthian as a jump point to England.

Looks like 2 votes to go for Vicky immediately and 1 vote for Brennus.

Brennus will have to wait 10 turns since I made peace with him. It would also take 10 turns or so to get my cats/trebs on to any galleys I could produce.

If I go Brennus - Toku - Vicky then Vicky will definitely have redcoats by the time I get to her.

In this situiation I would recommend:

1). Attack Japan, Osaka and Tokyo look nice. Completely destroy Japan.

2). Destroy Brennus. Trains your calvary/Gren during the mop up process.

3). Build Forbidden Palace in Osaka. Oxford in Dehli.

4). Research Astro/Assembly Line/cannon/Railroad. Then Invade Vicky with a veteran force and more advanced troops. I do not like the idea to ship green Cavary on ancient rowing boats against redcoats and a possible enemy navy. It will be a very hectic situiation if you face stiff resistance and unable to reinforce quickly.

Leave Vicky for trading.

Your conti has lots of resources, if you can consolidate quickly, many of those Japanese/Celtic cities can turn into science/production powerhouses. With the largest land/pop/resources, you will then certainly have a superior lead in Every department and lead a victory type of your choice.

Before Invading Vicky, you could ship some Hindu Missionaries to convert her cities. Once you switch back to Theocracy, you should be able to see her citiy defenses and navy ship counts. A strong navy would be nice to pillage her seafood, bombard her cities and protect your transports.

Or if you dont feel like the hassle, you can just cruise to a space ship with your full conti under control.

I like taking out Japan on the way to Vicky. I'll have some galleons by the time I get there and can drop off my troops after they heal from the Japanese battle.

If she doesn't have redcoats by that time then I can invade, otherwise I can wait until infantry and just finish off Brennus.

FP in Osaka was my thinking as well.
