Your brattish whore of a king wasn't happy with the daugter the Almighty blessed him with. That's why you left.

P.S. We let the ravens out of the Tower. I believe that means you fall now.

The same "Brattish whore of a king" that bestowed the title "Defender of the Faith" to a few years before? Smooth move, Pope.

Not sure if you know this, but that wasn't the current pope. You do know that Popes are mortal, right, even if the position isn't?

I wasn't changing the conversation. Just pointing it out that it was his Holiness Leo X that gave your King the title, and he has been dead for over 600 years. His Holiness Alexander IX is now the Pope.

The country of Tanzania owes much to the group of men and women known as the Disciples of Ragnarok.

On the faithful day of December 1st 2078 the disciples made contact with a lone radio operator posted on Tanzania’s coast. Robert Mokumba couldn’t believe his ears,

“Are you guys” serious he spoke into the receiver.

“Sir I assure you that we are very serious. We have a fleet of ships and thousands of soldiers. We mean you no harm we just need to make repairs, we don’t want anything to do with that racist regime in South Africa, from what we here Mozambique is no better. Please contact your superiors we are willing to pay you for repairs, we have much food, weapons, and medicine,” The voice said.
So it went that higher and higher ranking members of the Tanzanian military arrived to speak to “The Voice”, until finally the president of Tanzania arrived, and spoke to “The Voice”

A deal was struck that the Disciples could use Tanzanian ports in exchange for supplies. However things were about to get very complicated.

A day later the fleet steamed into port, A dozen destroyers, a Carrier, and about three dozen converted merchant frigates. Waiting in the port was head general Christopher Mahiri.

The commander of the disciples Carl Thompson appeared on a small boat, “Hello sir” he said in unaccented English shaking the General’s hand. “My people thank you for your nation’s generosity. Where do you want us to offload the medical supplies?”

“Right here on the dock if you please, we need them to supply our army in its fight against raiders coming out of Mozambique. I hate to say this about my own men, but we simply do not have the resources to fight this campaign much longer, The mines are empty, the crops are dying, but we can’t do a thing about it with so many of our men in the field.” Said the General.

“Let me tell you something about the disciples of Ragnarok general,” Said Carl “We were founded by remnants of the Swedish navy on a peace keeping mission in South America, When the plague spread our predecessors knew there would be anarchy, and lawlessness, so they endeavored to create a movement to keep the traditions of the old world alive. We believe that we can make a difference in the world by teaching, but we are unafraid to bring violence down upon those that refuse to learn. We did what we could in South America, and we left to find new places to help, Tanzania might just become home if your president allows it. Give me a few hours and our combat units will be ready.”

Shocked the general hailed a radio operator and contacted the President, after several minutes of heated conversation the General got off the radio and came back to Carl with a map. “The rebels are dug in inside of the Niassa national reserve, and have held our troops back with snipers and artillery. If you can dig out those raiders feel free to stay, you will defiantly be appreciated here.”

“No problem,” said Carl “our predecessors had the fore thought to equip us with all the high tech fire power they could find. They sailed up and down the coasts of North and South America gathering people and weapons. Within 6 hours a division was assembled and equipped. The infantry wielded a mix of AK47s, CAR15s and Swedish AK5s, as well as sniper rifles, machineguns and mortars. Tanks and armored personnel carriers form several countries formed up. Even Aircraft in the form of helicopter gunships and fighter-bombers were warming up on the carrier. It took the disciples another 6 hours to reach the game preserve, and when they got there the raiders were taken down hard. Helicopters and fighters dropped napalm and strafed the jungle. Flaming raiders ran right into the waiting gun sights of disciple troops and Tanzanian soldiers. When the advance began it didn’t stop until they were half way through Mozambique.

It appeared the Disciples of Ragnarok had found another nation to ply their trade. They started by setting up schools and hospitals, as well as retraining, and integrating the nation’s armed forces. Later they became politicians as well as warriors and doctors, but they would forever be known as the group that saved Tanzania.

Nice/Interesting story Commander.

I've received 7 orders thus far.
-The Federation of Columbia
-Polska Imperium
-The Second Byzantine Empire
-Tazania
-England
-The United States of Europe

Orders are due tomorrow, and the possibility of gaining a bonus through a story, or artwork is also gone. Coincidentally, we still need a banner for the first page. So whoever wants to design one will get a bonus this time around, or the next.

A bulk majority of the update is done. What imagined to be most of the Domestic events are completed, as are a few other parts of the update. I still wait upon some orders to do the rest though. Otherwise, fully expect this update up tomorrow.

Sure Badunoff, you can join, but like Kara said, come in after tomorrow night, should the update be up.

No new orders will be accepted. Just a few more military things to type up, and the first update will be posted. Should be within the next two hours, if that.

Update 1: 2151 AD
"What a Long Strange Trip.." 20th Century American artist, political activist and possible user of mind altering drugs, Jerome Garcia

Peaceful Matters in 2151

The year began almost immediately with the untimely death of the long reining English King, Edward IX. His daughter ascended to the thrown in the midst of a bombing raid on Nottingham. (see Military Matters in 2151) This "warrior" queen immediately set about attempting to build up the long decayed rail lines stretching throughout England.
(+1 English EP, +1 English Stability)

The Polska Imperium also seemed to follow this example, building more and more railroad lines leading towards its small Baltic Sea trade corridor. It's tonnage was also increased substantially, putting the Polska Imperium at the fore-front at Baltic Trade, on par with the Novgorod-St. Petersburg Federation. The completion of a newer Trans-Siberian railway on their part, however, gave them an extra boost this year, allowing for massive amounts of raw resources to be brought to St. Petersburg from the Eastern regions.
(+1 Novgorodian EP, +1 Polska EP)

Tanzania too began building a railroad system, mixed in with some internal mining advancements. The project was originally slated to take two turns, but some of the "Disciples of Raganorak" hastened the work effort, and finished in a year. The increased mining of materials, and new railroads brought in some extra economy for the African state. The state of Zambia was also given free passage to the port of Mtwara, giving the otherwise landlocked nation a port to trade in.
(+1 Tanzanian EP)

But that's not all. Part of the agreement the Tanzanians and Zambians established was a military alliance, in part to scare away would be conquering European nations, and to also make the Congo think twice about attacking either nation.

Meanwhile in the North Pacific, the Federation of Columbia also held some elections, in the wake of it's recent assault on the Aleutian islands (see Military Matters in 2151). Incumbent John Menchatik, a conservative, squared off with the rising liberal star of Julia Teslin. Teslin, promising universal health care, lower taxes for the middle and lower classes, and increased taxation of the upper class won in a landslide. Meanwhile, pro-war fervor swept the nation.
(+1 Stability)

The United States of Europe also established the worlds first Space Port since the start of the Great Plague in Dakar. While much of the technology in the art of Space flight is old, it is by no means completely forgotten. The port itself is still in the process of being built, therefore any type of space-flight by the USE isn't expected until at least 2153. Technologically, manned Space-flight is still years off. Satellites are another story however. The only fear USE scientists are having in regards to Space Flight is the thought that one of the old rogue Anti-ICBM arrays may think that the ship being sent up is a missile, and shoot it down. Only time will tell.

The Byzantines were also busy building a rail system, extending from Constantinople to the far reaches of Central Asia. From Constantinople through Anatolia the railroad was built without much of a hitch, but it fell short of reaching the outskirts of the Empire this year. The Persian workforce was kept in line by the Byzantine military, while any and all expected troublemakers in the workforce were quickly "set straight".

The Empress' birthday was also celebrated to a great extent this year. Foreign dignitaries, high ranking military officials, and of course members of the royal family were in attendance. The bill for the festivities was massive to say the least, but it was paid for almost in full by money extracted from troublesome rail workers, that seemed to value their life more then their money.

The Byzantines also established a new system of recruitment, giving the Byzantine military a continuous cycle of fresh bodies to train, and arm, should any conflict arise. (+5 Divisions)

In the South Pacific, treaties of friendship between Indonesia and the Indian Empire, and Indonesia and the Oceanic Federation were signed, essentially alienating an already battered Federation of Southeast Asia. (see Military Matters in 2151)

In North America, the grand Socialist Revolution of 47' in the United Syndicalist Communes of America continued it's growth. By now, the whole of the region was under the firm grasp First Citizen Markus Steel, and his associates. Increased trade with both the Shield Republic and the Caribbean community brought some extra jobs to the USCA. Closer ties with the Chita and Patagonia Soviet states were also created.

The Grand Revolution then attempted to spread into the "Fascist" territories of the Unified States of America, and was met with mixed results. (see Military Matters in 2151)

Japan meanwhile patrolled it's borders, and put down several protests to it's rule in Korea. Nothing out of the ordinary however.

Military Matters in 2151

This year brought a surprisingly large number of conflicts to a head across the planet.
From the start of the year, the United States of Europe began bombing England indiscriminantly. Major cities, such as Liverpool and Nottingham were hit the hardest. The Royal Airforce managed to push back several aerial blitzes, fighting the USE's airforce to almost a stand-still. No ground actions of any significance actually occurred, just some minor border fighting, with both sides seeming relatively hesitant to commit to any major drive.
(-3 United States of Europe Squadrons, -4 English Squadrons)

Meanwhile, in the South Pacific, Indonesia set about attempting to reclaim the island of Sumatra from the Federation of Southeast Asia. An increasingly large Indonesian navy blockaded the island early in the year. Southeast Asian attempts at breaking said blockade were pushed back, with a mixture of Indonesian air and naval power. Soon thereafter, a few thousand Indonesian soldiers landed on the beaches of Sumatra.
(-4 Southeast Asian Groups, -3 Southeast Asian Squadrons, -3 Indonesian Groups, -3 Indonesian Groups)

Though the Indonesians had clear naval and air superiority, the interior of the island remained in Southeast Asian hands for the most part. Many groups of Southeast Asian soldiers retreated into the jungle interior of the island, and struck at the Indonesian forces whenever a weakness made itself apparent. The Indonesians however continued their push, despite hardened resistance. A victorious Indonesian army marched into Tais, the islands capital, without too much fighting. But in the thick of the jungles, fighting lasted to the end of the year, with no clear cut winner.
(-2 Southeast Asian Divisions, -1 Southeast Asian Squadron, -3 Indonesian Divisions)

Several thousand miles to the north, the Federation of Columbia also began a reclamation campaign- this time of the Aleutian islands. The Chita Soviet's occupation of the classically Alaskan territory had always been a sore point between the two nations. For many it was simply a question as to when the Columbians would try to retake the islands. This year seemed to be it. Taking advantage of the fact its southern neighbors were pre-occupied with killing each other, the Columbian government evicted the Chitean government officials from it's capital, and gave them several hours to get out of the nation.

Following this, a massive bombardment of the Aleutian's by the Republican Airforce of Columbia, aided by naval bombardment by the Republican Navy shelled many small villages and military outposts the Soviet's claimed. An invasion soon followed. Despite have little initial resistance, the extreme climate and geography on the Aleutians proved more of an enemy then the Soviet forces. The first several major islands of the chain were taken without much of a fight. But the further the Columbians got, the more Soviet resistance they faced.
(-3 Soviet Squadrons, -2 Soviet Groups, -1 Soviet Division, -3 Columbian Squadrons, -1 Columbian Group)

By the time the Columbian army reached the Andreanof Island chain, the Soviets managed to begin putting up enough of a resistance that the Columbians were forced to settle down. The harsh winds kept the use of air power to a minimal, whilst choppy seas made it difficult of the Columbian navy to aid the advance with full efficiency. That is not to say though that the Soviets didn't face similar issues. By the end of the year, bloody island to island fighting was occurring in freezing temperatures. Many soldiers didn't quite know what was happening in the bloody mess, all they really knew was that it was hell.
(-2 Soviet Divisions, -2 Columbian Divisions)

In Central Asia, the Global Civil War still raged on. The details of much of the infighting was foggy, but that was to be expected. The Chinese and Central Asian "governments" have attempted to use what troop power they could to end the fighting, but to no real avail. Russia's loose grip on Siberia was also seen, as several fringe groups appeared outside of Chita, requesting annexation, which would surely bring war between Russia and the Soviets. Several tribes also moved into Byzantine territory, and set up camp around the Caspian Sea, showing the Byzantine's tentative grip on the region. In stark contrast, India managed to rid large portions of Pakistan of the tribes and war parties by simply removing them into the lawless Chinese lands.
(-3 Central Asian Squadrons, -2 Central Asian Divisions, -6 Chinese Divisions, -2 Russian Divisions, -1 Byzantine Stability, +1 Indian Stability)

And across of what was the United States of America, war has been the word. The United Syndicalist Communes of America, fresh off of their "Glorious Revolution" began looking for new virgin lands for the revolution to start anew. And the lands right across the Mississippi beckoned them. The Unifed States of America, classified as "fascist" by the USCA found itself the victim of a coalition attack this year. USCA Supreme Commander Alexis Grey found herself commanding not just USCA soldiers, but Imperial Mexican and Californios soldiers also. Operation "Liberty for All" began early in the year, with combined bombing strikes on Unified States air fields, and cities. Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and Omaha all found themselves victims of the USCA blitz.
(-6 Unified States Squadrons, -2 Californios Squadrons, -3 USCA Squadrons, -2 Mexican Squadrons)

The Unified State's airforce struggled to put up with the onslaught, and found themselves wildly outnumbered within hours. That being said, USCA air superiority was guaranteed. Following several hours of aerial strikes, divisions of Californios and Syndicalist divisions moved across the plains of the Unified States. In the East, the Unified State's soldiers were prepared for an assault. They weren't, however, ready for a western and southern attack. Californios soldiers fought some Unified State's militia through Oregon, and managed to push them up to the Columbia in some parts. They also attacked some Unified State's outposts in Nevada, but the harsh desert made any outright attack foolish.
(-3 Californios Divisions, +10 Unified States Militia, -8 Unified States Militia, -2 Unified States Division)

The USCA and the Mexican army both planned an attack on Texas, with the capture of Houston being the obvious goal in the attack. The USCA army, relying on heavy close-air support quickly struck at the Unified State's positions, allowing for a rapid advance across the plains. Yet the Unified States, at the encouragement of Amono Saiiji held on, fighting "for the homeland", and made every inch of the Communists and Mexican forces took a fight. Yet, the forces drew closer and closer to Houston day by day. The only thing that saved the capital was the declaration of war on the USCA and its allies by the Caribbean Empire. The Unified States diplomat in Havana sent the Emperor several disturbing messages originally received from the USCA, highlighting the Communist's apparent interest in the Caribbean. The inclusion of Carib forces into the fray aided the Unified State's in protecting it's Gulf Coast against a joint Mexican-USCA invasion.
(-3 Mexican Divisions, -5 USCA Divisions, -6 Unified States Divisions, +10 Unified States Militia, -7 Unified States Militia, -2 USCA Squadron, -2 Unified States Squadrons, -1 Carib Squadron, -1 USCA Group, -3 Mexican Groups, -2 Unified States Groups, -2 Carib Groups)

The Caribs also launched an assault into the south of the Mexican Empire, which was parsley defended, fighting through scattered resistance in the jungle of Central America. This action pulled several Mexican divisions away from the front around Houston. The Caribbean Empire saved Houston, to say the least. But that is not to say that the USCA-led forces were shattered by any means. Several prominent North and South American nations have stayed silent, watching the bloody conflict unfold before their eyes, with neutrality being the unspoken word that everyone seemed to agree upon. This war, as it is, would be a North American war. And how it could go would be really anyones guess.
(-2 Mexican Divisions, +5 Mexican Militia, -5 Mexican Milita, -1 Mexican Squadron, -1 Mexican Group, -1 Mexican EP, -1 Carib Division, -2 Carib Squadron, -1 Carib Group)

Grey sometime in 2151

Supreme Commander Alexis Grey
-written by John Artlack

Her beauty is only matched by her cunning. American Supreme Commander Alexis Grey was born in a small town outside of the city of Philadelphia in 2123. A long time member of the Socialist movement growing in what was the Eastern States of America, she attended several prominent military academy's before earning her officers commission, and moving on to bigger and better things. Those bigger and better things would be, in turn, the second American Revolution, or as it's known throughout many parts of the world, "The Grand Socialist Revolution of 47". Quickly rising through the ranks in the Socialist's military, Grey has shown herself to be both a genius tactician, and a politician for the first rate.

This year, Grey managed to get elected into the position of Supreme United Syndicalist Communes of America Military Commander, something very few 28 year old women would be able to do, let alone do effectively. And no one can question her worthiness of the position. She immediately prepared the USCA's military for war, against it's "fascists" neighbors, the Unified States of America. Using her tactical skill, Grey managed to cooperate Mexican and Californian forces into precise strikes against the Unified State's defended positions, more often then not commanding from the front lines. And you can be sure that every major offensives, airstrike, or military action in general was approved, and tweaked by Grey herself. Her victories this year gave her overwhelming support throughout the USCA, solidifying her place as a true "Hero of the Revolution." What the future may hold for her, only time will tell. But one can rest assured that her future is a bright one.

RUNNER UPS

2. Amono Saiiji
Even in the wake of a massive continent wide coalition against his nation, Amono has stood steadfast, even in the face of defeat.

3. Queen Victoria II
Not many people can claim they gained the title of Queen during a bombing raid. The young "warrior Queen" however, has managed to keep her people fighting, even against overwhelming odds.

Californios soldiers fighting in the Oregon wilderness

The North American War
-written by Kaitlyn McDowell

Many thought the 2150's would bring a new age of peace upon the human race. Yet with wars of reclamation in the North and South Pacific, and bombing raids throughout England, it has become obvious that this new age is only a tad more organized then the last one. The general war, started in North America is an example of historical ideologies not only being accepted, but being used in major foreign policy decisions. The United Syndicalist Communes of America, one of the worlds 3 true communist nations (the others being Patagonia, and the Chita Soviet) squaring off with the worlds stronger "Fascist nation". Just two hundred years before, a similar scene erupted when German Fascist leader Adolf Hitler assaulted his Communist neighbor, the Soviet Union. The result was one of the bloodiest conflicts in history. And the way this war is going, it seems like it too will rank in the world's most brutal of conflicts.

This war specifically has been chosen as the Event of the Year, not only because of the scale of it, but also the repercussions. The Caribbean Empire's involvement, coupled with fighting spread from Oregon to the Yucatan gives this war the possibility of becoming a world wide one. Yet only time will tell if it does. Should that happen, then the unthinkable may occur- another plague, or what may be worse, a nuclear exchange. This conflict more then anything marks that humanity is once again in a comfortable enough position that nations may begin killing each other again indiscriminantly.

Runners up

2. The Construction of a Spaceport in Dakar
Had this project actually been completed in this year, or a launch occured, this certainly would have gone home with the title. Humanity hasn't really come a long way in the last 150 years. But this is a sure sign progress is being made.

3. The Global Civil War continuing in Central Asia
As the rest of the world makes progress, the interior of the vast Asian continent remains in much of the same place that is was in 100 years ago. What we have here in a humanitarian crisis on a grand scale- one no one seems to care about.

4. Railroad Construction
After 150 years without upkeep, it goes without saying that the infrastructure of many nations is not up to par. Yet building projects in England, the Byzantine Empire, Tanzania and the Polska Imperium, to name a few, is a sign that civilization is once again interweaving it's trade networks again. Railroads are, of course, a classic sign of progress and expansion.

OOC: I'm fairly pleased with the orders I've received, and the participation I've seen thus far. Some of you (you know who you are :P) may want to send orders that are a tad longer this next time around. Otherwise, great job you guys. I think this will be a fun NES.

Just as a not, the whole "INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE" segment will be re-occurring. So characters and such are of course appreciated. Despite both the person and the event are war related this year, that may not always be so. It's the person/people and event that has effected the world the most this year. While they don't have to be war related, I have a gut feeling most of them will be. :P

Stats will be up sooner then later. Maybe tonight? If not, tomorrow night.

To: The Rebels of Sumatra,
From: General Santoso Pramana of Indonesia,

We have no will to fight our brothers of the Indonesian isle of Sumatra. You should join us for we are of one blood and one nation. We come to liberate you from the Thais & Vietnamese- these are not your people- WE are your people.

And so because we have no will to fight you, our terms will be most merciful. Lay down your arms and swear allegiance to your brothers and cousins of Indonesia and we will forgive everything. Continue to fight us and it is not we who will pay the price but your mothers, wives, sisters and children throughout the villages and cities.

For every one of our soldiers that is killed or injured by the rebels of this island mistakenly seduced from the Indonesian brotherhood, we will slay 10 of your womenfolk.

This is not something we want to do, but we do not want to fight our brothers either. We hope you will join us and bloodshed can be avoided.

And so for everyone of you who surrenders and lays down his arms, we will grant clemency to 5 of your womenfolk.

Let us pray for peace.

Excellent update! Story in a while.
