SGOTM 22 - TTfkapr

Most AI are landlocked. Saladin appears to have 2 more ancient techs than we do. Myst+TW+Hunt+Arch+???, I suppose.

Preisthood.

Based on the discussion, no strong feelings one way or another, but mixed opinions on how to move the south warrior. I will head SE, but try to maximize visible tiles along the way.

There appears to be a maze-like passage via the south. I will propose an exploring stratgy going forward. I did not move the warrioir to the east yet.

Okay, another scout from southern tundra... They can't both have their capitals there. Maybe mapmaker just put scouts there to remove randomness in when we meet the AI, which there was some complaints about in last game. Not that it matters as much now with tech trading turned off.

Looks lik 2 creative AI in the game, Giggles+someone else. Half of the AI just built an archer, which is expected.

Land not terribly exciting yet. Continue exploring for now, I'd say.

I see we have weighted all EP on sal. Maybe best. Hard to know who to pick really.

I would be moving onto the gems next. Feels like the southern warrior is on a wild goose chase but who knows what the map maker might of done. They have done long roads at bottom of map before. Easier to get a workboat out? Which might mean settling fish sooner?

Western warrior can go west and head onto coastal forest?

I would like to explore the grassland near the cows too if we can before the barb animals arrive. We could go 1NE and head back south?

At this stage I think we should keepexploring to AH. Yes keep the demo screens coming but I think we can play on more turns here. The key is what turn we need to have the warriors fog bust?

I also tend to agree the scouts were randomly placed there. They are 7 tiles from bottom of map and normally I would expect 2-3 tiles of ice. Unless map is heavily edited.

Notice that Gilga and Saladin have just met. Sal has 6/8 EP on us. Always worth monitoring this.

Out of interest what time zones is everyone in? Guessing quite a few in the US? GMT here.

PPP T3-T12
Turnset Goals:
1b. Find 2nd city site
2. Reveal land around Rome
3. Meet AI
4.1a. Keep all warriors alive
5. Find Hammurabi and Gilgamesh Territory

General
On turn 5, choose AH.
Screenies every turn of Top5 cities and Demographics screen.
Go to global view and check for AI culture every turn.

Warrior Movement
I will continue scouting moving all warriors but the south warrior in a clockwise manner to reveal the tiles around Rome in hopes of finding a great 2nd city site. East and west have the most promise. The south warrior will continue exploring the southern corridor. If it dead ends, return to Rome and reveal tiles SE of Rome.

Animals
Animals show up at T6
Run from Bears.
Fortify or run from panthers.
Fortify if Lions or wolves are seen when on a forested hill. If not run to a forested hill.
Attack Wolves that are on unforested flat tiles if not on a forested hill.
Fortify and heal if not 100% health.

After turn 5, divert search paths so warriors don't end on flat, unforested tiles. EXCEPTION - Warrior in the east. This may be violated conditionally due to suspected risk determined in-game at my discretion.

When to play
I will play until T9-T12 in 24 hours unless I get a "green" indicating approval from everyone in less than 24 hours.

Stopping Points
Stop if meet a new AI. (Very likely to happen before T12, play on and change EP if I meet a fast teching leader.)
Stop if weirdness noted.
Stop if a warrior dies.

There are some water tiles in the SW that should be ocean, but are coast.

I am in US Central time zone.

Looks good plan. Green from me.

Green. I think we can play a bit quicker here. The key decision will be avoiding barbs or not. Losing warriors here would be a big pain. Always safety first. The plan is very comprehensive.

Looks like we have 3-4 on CEST time. Plus 1-2 around UK European time. Would be nice to plan a time when everyone is around. We could clear first 9-10 turns quickly then.

I'm in France.

Still not sure AH first is the way to go, as I still believe in a rushing TGW gambit.
Forget about it. I thought we had Agriculture as a starting tech...

GREEN for me.

I'm in France.

Still not sure AH first is the way to go, as I still believe in a rushing TGW gambit.

Give me a couple of hours for testing please.

Graph gazing. Anti TSr and the new team have a score of 45. They both appear to have gone masonry first.

In terms of Yeahh Oracle grab on old test game I would suggest this is more unlikely now the AI have free resources from the start.

We need to be having more debates here as a team. One of the advantages of not selecting a tech is we can decide later. Great wall is 150 hammers. With size 2 capital it would take 40 turns. 2 mines and pigs would mean 20 turns. Teching Ah delays masonry by about 10 turns. Albeit we may grow to size 3-4 quicker. By then archers might be streaming in. Hmmmm.

Is it posible the other teams have gone for another tech first? I wonder if it was possible to move the capital to get fish and pigs?? Hmmmm. The 45 score would not match AH start as that would mean 52 points. Have we missed a trick here??

Could they all be skipping Ah to beeline Oracle? Seems unlikely and maybe risky? Myst does provide monuments. A cheap second building. Both Oracle and TGW would require a lot of turns with only 2 mines. Hmmmm.

AH > Masonry seems to produce a quicker TGW than Masonry > AH (due to growing quicker, even if we have to build a warrior)

The issue with skipping AH (in order to rush Monotheism for example) is that our worker can't do anything except mining some.

Maybe some team played warrior first gambling on worker steal ?

Still GREEN afaic

If they did go warrior first they most likely stayed at size 1. Why go warrior first to worker steal? They already have 4 warriors!! It's likely we are semi isolated. See how they have designed map.

On my second attempt at Ah my score went up to 45. Mystery solved.

Yeah green.

I didn't discuss anything other than AH, because I certain everything else is slower. Waiting 5 turns to choose a tech gains a beaker or two if you know more AIs on t5 when you select your tech. With the map revealed, AH was never in doubt for me.

T4 - Meet Zara
T5 - Meet Brennus, Darius and Hannibal
T10 - Hinduism founded (Saladin)
T12 - AH in, horses found SW, about 6 tiles away.
