Awards

Winner – Kal’thzar / Aegypt

Starting with tiny little Cush, and pushed into a war against das very early in the game, Kal’thzar nevertheless managed to pull himself up, reunite Egypt, and outlast Israel. Everything after that was easy for Aegypt, but Kal’s orders during the Mediterranean War were very good, and would likely have stood up against even a good PC. By raising a three eco center power to fourteen centers, Kal’thzar deserves this award.

Finalist – Birdjaguar / Greater India

Birdjaguar’s Mohenjo-Daro was on the brink of collapse at the first turn, but he saved it, and eventually conquered all of India. Though never really challenged by a PC, Birdjaguar’s orders were always very well thought out, and he managed to successfully deal with some very annoying NPCs, as well as find a way to create the beginnings of an Indian Ocean empire.

Third Place – LittleBoots / Byzantium

Starting with a small power occupying hostile Hittite lands, LittleBoots nevertheless managed to quickly conquer all of Greece. From there, LittleBoots fought a successful war with Assyria, and more that doubled his nation’s strength from the beginning of the game. He also quite possibly had the most enjoyable orders to read.

Player Awards

Most Active Player – Birdjaguar

Aside from me, he has the most posts on the thread by a considerable margin, and sent many PMs, as well.

Least Active Player – JosefStalinator

Posts once on the thread to say he’s taking Lusitania after I PM him to ask if he’s still interested, then never posts in the thread again.

Most Inquisitive Player – fantasmo

It would be hard for most of you to imagine the number of PMs of questions he sent me.

Most Underrrated – Wubba360

His military orders were actually quite good, and the Stick War was very hardfought, but in the end, he lost everything.

Most Cunning Player – fantasmo

He just kept pulling the proverbial rabbit out of the proverbial hat.

Best Orders – Perfectionist

Very well organized, very in depth, and quite Symphony-like. If everyone sent orders like his, updates would go twice as fast.

Best Stories – das

Read some of them during the Nilotic War. Nuff’ said.

Best Newbie – j_eps

Perfectionist, while he might have utterly dismantled any and all opposition, didn’t play as in character as j_eps did. His stories were also quite good, and j_eps was always very enthusiastic about the NES.

Nation Awards

Greatest European Power – The Celtic Empire

Byzantium might have more raw strength, but Byzantium is Asia-focused, and the Celtic Empire has a great deal of influence among the Celtic barbarian tribes.

Greatest African Power – Aegypt

Not much competition here, really.

Greatest Asian Power – Greater India

While China might have the potential to surpass this nation in the future, for now, Greater India reins hegemon over the continent.

Largest Nation – Greater India

With its multitude of colonies, as well as ownership of the subcontinent, I think Greater India wins this title.

Smallest Nation - Wessex

I think. The Farow also deserves some sort of award for switching his nation around the most, but I can't think of a name for that.

Largest Army – Byzantium

With 39 000 troops waiting to rip any attackers to shreds.

Largest Navy – Aegypt

57 ships dominate the Mediterranean.

Most Aggressive – Byzantium

LittleBoots has a penchant for declaring war on multiple nations at the same time. He fought Macedon, Epirus, Phoenicia, Greece, Athens, Sparta, Minoa, Assyria, Aegypt, Israel, Hittite Rebels, Achillean Rebels, and the Romans, and came out on top.

Least Aggressive – Axum

Pulled into the Nilotic War by alliance, Axum never fought in a war before or after that.

Most Evil – Israel

Das had a number of evil domestic policies, had a spy network that puts the current Celtic one to shame, genocided countless Egyptians, and in the end, killed his own country.

Most Good – The Chu-Nan Empire of China

It could have tried to conquer the region quite early, but instead, the nation of the Chu forged peaceful domestic links. Even during the height of the Stick War, fantasmo constantly asked Wubba if he wanted peace.

Best Comeback – Byzantium

It was almost destroyed, but managed to not only survive, but make its enemies very sorry they ever attacked it.

Greatest Rise – Aegypt

The Nilotic War was quite epic, and even after that, Aegypt never stopped growing.

Greatest Fall – Assyria

The fall of Israel was quite good, as well, but that was planned by das, wheras Luckymoose, alone and without allies, dragged the Eagle War out long after it had been decided. Not to mention, Assyria’s fall sparked the Urrian War, which was nothing more than a squabble over Assyria’s territories, and gave Assyria some measure of revenge.

Most Unique – The Celtic Empire

Perfectionist turned a barbarian tribe into a quasi-civilized empire.

Good, good, I agree with the awards. Thanks for the story one. As for the evil, I just wish I could do more. ;)

How many years is the BT supposed to be exactly? I really don't think it should be 800 years as I have heard being proposed previously; in that case BT orders would be utterly pointless. 300-400 sounds rather more reasonable - just enough time for the empires of today to fall, and for new ones (including the successor ones, naturally) to arise.

Oh, and btw, why is China "China"? I think it will be rather more original to call it Chunan (compare with Funan).

Thank you Imago, this has been great fun. I look forward to the BTand phase 2.

Rome became was destroyed, having failed to gather allies to it, and Aegypt and the Celtic Empire made full use of this to humble Rome, which would never quite recover again. India finished its conquest of the Sub-Continant, whilst Byzantium further consolodated gains from its war with Assyria. That was fun :p, someone make an animated map now!

It was never going to be 800. It's going to be 480, so that second Interesting Time can start at a nice round number, and so INES will be reasonably father along than ITNES.

And thanks guys, for the compliments. :)

@Kal'thzar - Great analysis. There's going to be a link to that on the front page. :D

This period Showed the true might of Byzantium, even as it underwent a cival war, The Loyalist faction was still richer than any other comparative power.

And that's the reason why, when LittleBoots surrendered, I was very startled.

But you left out technological and educational advancement as an important part of any nation's power and prestige. 17% of world trade resources are only a part of the greatness of India. A nation is more than just trade. ;)

EDIT: Kal or Imago do either of you have each stat update? If you send them to me or post them, I will look further into all this.

No, thats why I looked at the maps, there may be some small discrepincies inthe total TC's :p and yes I realised that tech also has a part in this, I mentioned it at some point for you, but i mitigated it somewhat as it had no effect on TC's

EDIT: Kal or Imago do either of you have each stat update? If you send them to me or post them, I will look further into all this.

Each stat update? I have no idea why I bothered, but I do have each turn's stats saved in a file. If you want them, I'll send them, but the file's well over a hundred pages long.

Can you zip it and email it to me as a word or note pad doc?

A military analysis will be nice as well, while you're at it. ;)

So, when for should BT orders be sent?

Turn by turn stats in a Word Document attached to this post, as I don't really want to email it to everyone who asks.

And yes, BT orders are due at the regular time, as per Birdjaguar's new thread.

Very cool, thanks, I am going to try and create a turn by turn index for each nation and then crate a graph to track things over time. I post it when I am finished.

Thanks for the awards. You are far too kind.

the Celtic rose up from taking advantage of the war between Aegypt and Rome
I am going to have to take issue with this. By my count, the Celts killed twice as many Romans as the Aegyptians, and lost far more men. If anything, Aegypt rose up from taking advantage of our war with Rome.
