Global happiness works awesome. I just got into negative happiness and it crippled my entire civ. Looking around for luxuries in a panic. I never ever looked around for luxury resources in a panic before. It's certainly not a dumbed down move, as while accomplishing the same goal (population limiting) they've made it integral to the core game-play and something of a crisis that needs resolving, instead of happiness just something that'll allow your cities to get slightly bigger before they reach the inevitable cap.
thanks alot for making this thread, i can honestly say that it makes time pass that much faster.
just one question: do garrisoned unit reduce unhappiness in conquered cities???

Is Bismark behind the average in techs or are you just that far ahead? I realize you had to sacrifice a lot to get where you are, but infantry vs. pikes and spears is quite a lot!
Are you making friends with the city states, or ignoring them? In my all too brief demo I tried, but it seemed like they dropped out of friendship really fast. You basically have to keep giving them money, or drop everything to do their requests asap. The latter doesnt seem to be feasable since they dont seem to give you enough time to actually do what they ask. Giving them money every few turns doesnt work either, not enough cash in the first 100 turns!
Woah, you're playing fast.
Your game's past the 20th century and Bismark is still using pikemen???
