Since I have a lot of requests for several aircraft, I can give you some new previews.

On the attached pic you see four planes:

- Rafale
- F22
- F4
- Saab37

The F22 is completly modelled and textured, so I could do it quickly. The Rafale could be next then. The F4 was an older request, but now there is one at the CDG, so mine was abandoned. However, with some work, it could be a good unit. Not sure if I should do it. The Saab needs still lots of work.

For all except the F22 I need to finde the right colors/camo.

Steph - if you read this - what camo should the Rafale have? I found a lot of pics on the net, eg. on this site http://www.rafale.com.sg/Page0003.html the first photo shows a Rafale with a more greyish camo, the last pic the shows the plane in a nearly black color scheme. Which should I use?

I also had the idea to make a AC130 Spectre gunship (could be a kind of "bomber") based on a model of the C130 cargoplane.

Oh, and I´ll see if I can fulfill other requests, but don´t be offended when I refuse certain requests (or when I need long time for a requested unit). As I wrote before in another thread, real life comes first, and then I have other civ stuff, eg. my mod or the help for Steph :)

Ok, then I will use these colors (edit: those from the marine version) :) Thanks.

Do you mean just those two different color schemes or also two complete different versions (single-seater and double-seater)?

Because it is no problem to make the same unit in other colors, but editing the whole model to get the double-seater version is more work....

In my mod, the air units are done that way:
- Fighter -> Jet Fighter -> Interceptor
- Fighter bomber -> Jet Fighter Bomber
- Naval fighter -> Naval Interceptor
- Naval Fighter bomber -> Naval Jet Fighter Bomber

I would like to have different looking aircraft to represent all that for every civ, or at least "block" (NATO - USSR).

One solution is to have a few models, with different color scheme.

So the Rafale could have two different color, one for naval, one for ground base.

The mig 21 could have grey color for Russia, and sand colors for Egypt / Babylon, etc.

So I don't ask you to make completly different versions. Simply changing the colors to tell different units appart is enough.

Well, different versions for all are a bit too much IMO. Even when they only have different colors, I still have to render all anims for every color version separately plus doing SBB work, sometimes also manual corrections with PhotoPaint.

I suggest that I do first new planes, then different color versions for some of them - not for all, then I´d would have to make jets for the rest of my life. In this way you could also use existing jets for different civs (or roles like air force/navy) first. Once a new version is available, you can implement it for more diversity :)

Question for the F22 experts: is it correct that the tail of the F22 is designed to reduce heat output from the engines to confuse IR guided missiles? Does this mean the raptor doesn´t produce these giant afterburner flames known from other jets? Then I probably shouldn´t use those flames in the run anim? Anybody here who knows this? :)

Don't worry, I already have one "generic" graphic for all the animation, so I don't actually need them.
It's just that having a F14 as a Russian naval interceptor may seem strange to some!

So I plan to simply use generic units, and add flavour units when new ones are made.

Ok :)

Here´s the first try for an attacking Raptor jet. I tried to add a bit more "action" by turning the plan slightly around his z-axis. Also I tried to add those streams of white smoke (?) at the wingtips modern jets often create when they fly extreme maneuvres. It is a pity that we cannot use much more frames for aircraft anims (well, it is possible, but you have to slow down the plane in the game, but then the jet would move as fast as a snake over screen - no option for modern jets :( )

Do you like this anim?

I'm not an expert on the F-22 (with all the stupid classified stuff who is an expert anyway?) but I know that the answer to your question is yes and no. Yes it can use afterburners, but no it doesn't have to in order to fly at supersonic speeds.

Since the whole appeal of the F-22 is its stealth I doubt that afterburners will be used since they are a dead giveaway of their location and Heatseeking missiles will love it like fat women cheese cake.

So probably it's best to not use afterburner flames.

BTW, that attack animation is great and so are all the previews.

No need for afterbunner flames, it can supercruise to at least mach 1.5. Great attack animation. I have been waiting for this unit for a while. Now all thats left is the F-35 for the carriers.

Yeah the F-22 and the F-35 would officially make BeBro the Combat Airplane King of Civ3!!!

What is he the queen now? :) I don't intend to offend others but he IS the king of combat airplanes.

Very nice Bebro. I would have made the F-22 but my model is not as nice as yours and I know you could do a better job than I on them.

I read a bit about the afterburner things as well - the GrandAdmiral is right. Supersonic filghts without AB are no problem, and in normal flight mode the engines do not create any visible smoke or something else.

Therefore I could save much work by simply using the default anim as run anim too. So you can expect the rollout for this unit within the next minutes :)
