What is Apolyton to Civ Fanatics like diplomatically? Friendly? Nuetral? Hostile?

I don't think you should put Apolyton under you affiliates section because they didn't list us!

Apolyton has both an affiliates section and a links section, I believe civfanatics is listed in the latter. The apolyton crowd averages some what older than this forum, and it is much larger, with hundreds of active posters.

I don't particularly like Apolyton either. Iam thankful for Thunderfall. I like the colors and smilies that he allows.
Thanks TF
Enough butt kissing, I think that the average poster over here at CivFan is generally nicer than Apolyton. But Apolyton has alot of knowledgeable players and they were the only place that I could find ppl wanting to play a Diplo game...

There is a "core" of Civ2 loving and playing posters still there.Xin Yu for example is one of the most ingenious civers there is.Although his posts are less frequent than days gone by.Capt Nemo frequents the scenario league forum.Scouse Gits is one the most helpful people you could meet.Ming and Rah are chalk full of multiplayer and solo experience.Paul is the Godfather of OCC.Sadly this core has been diluted somewhat while others have disappeared completely.

There is growing number of self appointed internet celebrities with massive egos though.

The number of guys in the league is rather small. It's not all bad, or I wouldn't post there, but I still think that here is more fun.

The ego guys are legion there, but they mostly hang out in the off-topic forum, and don't bother the on-topic forums much.

DOWN WITH APOLYTON! :ripper:

i really dislike that site

i ashamed of you skilord.

lol, im just kidding.

I found aployton first, so i like it more, but the tide is beggining to shift. the peeps here are really cool and the people at apolyotn are really p*ssig me off. Ahh well enoug ranting, we are not forced to visit the site, so if ya dont like it, dont visit it.

OK, since Markos would probably fire me if I said a good word about CivFanatics ;)...

I must admit CF is a pretty good site, and I do sometimes read these forums, even with a rare post over here, but generally, Apolyton has a much stronger community. Simply put, strategy masters like Xin Yu, Velociryx, Arrian, superb modmakers like WesW, Locutus and Paul, excellent moderators like Ming and me ;), as well as some of the oldest civ 2 players - Ming, rah, and just weird characters like our beloved AH are what make Apolyton up.

Then again, we have Coracle (oh my), and Firaxians tend to browse Apolyton more. To be specific, Soren Johnson is there on a daily basis, lately also posting often.

T.S. What a disgusting looking forum interface.

My five cents on promoting Poly. First of all Poly covers a wider section of games made by Sid (and some not yet even ready (i.e. Dinosaurs) and Poly provides news on most of them. Interesting interviews, Internet radio, active chat actitivities, a large file section, very popular and "award winning" bulletin boards, MP3 music station, the popular Poly store where you can buy almost handmade extra high quality rags like the My words are backed with nuclear weapons! T-shirt (you may not order that from CFC; only available on Poly's Store), and other official accessories that are manufactured with great care, The Column written by highly amateur but still good authors (like me) and the best thing of the all; the people of Poly; the Apolytoners and the mods/admins.

And one thing that you don't find here for certain is a thriwing community of Finnish civers and the regular Suomithreadi posts! :p

You're just one step from Poly, the highly ranked Civilization website. Type http://www.apolyton.net (or click the link) and your in.

I think all Civ friends (as me;)) regularly visit three of the dedicated sites : Apolyton, CivFan & Gamecatcher.
The number is for Poly
The tone is for CivFan
The youth is for GC.

Ah, if you follow closely, you will discover that he is also known as Zouave... :scan:

I am very active at Apolyton, and split my time between the two sites. Civfanatics has the World History forum, which is the biggest draw for me. Apolyton has a more thorough crowd of helpful civ players when it comes time to discuss strategy and elements of the game. I've seen more Civ3 innovation at Apolyton than has even been hinted at here. Also, I enjoy the Spanish Civ forum at Apolyton.

That said, the Civ3 forums at Apolyton have a number of irritating trolls who often spoil good discussions.

Smash, who is on your list of "self-appointed internet celebrities with massive egos"?

There are indeed a lot of ego maniacs and stuck up prissy's at 'Poly however.....

There are some very knowledgable people wrt Civ3 and CtP series. Most of them are actually nice. If it weren't for them I would post at CfC exclusively.

CfC btw definately has a lot more friendlier people.

I like CivFanatics better. I went to Apolyton a few times and found some of the people there to be hostile and others just plain weird. This is just a better site, period. Especially for Civ II players.

- Narz :king:

And besides, they don't have the king smiley over there!

Hrmm. I wonder if vladmir realised that by posting up this thread, the place that he dislikes so much will get more attention and possibly more members? Strange that the first thread I saw in a place that is to promote other Civ sites was a thread doing quite the opposite.

Oh well. Don't mean to sound mean or anything, but it doesn't seem that great to knock other sites. If you dislike them, why bother?

apolyton and CFC go together like spaghetti an tuna fish.

i use both. they are both awesome sites, but it i must choose, then apolyton is the better one.

Certainy the Civ community is big enough to support both sites. Apolyton is an awesome site, and CivFanatics is an awesome site also. ;)

Let it rest....
