What to do after 500 AD or so ...

I would like to ask what people are doing after this point. It seems to me the options are somewhat limited.

Overseas expansion is mostly out. Two reasons ... corruption and the land is FULL. You can't even set foot on another continent without war. I really do appreciate tougher AIs, but the total lack of unclaimed land hurts the game if you ask me. There is no exploration and colonization ... only meeting large empires and already claimed land.

Overland expansion is mostly out. First defense is so strong, even with bombardment making large gains is difficult. But that is all well and good. The problem is again corruption. My border cities are already one-shield one-trade corruption wonders ... why would I want to add more? They are all liabilities at this point.

Culture? How fun is that? Culture boils down to: build science and happiness buildings. As thrilling as that is, there aren't even any decisions to make. No strategy, no fun.

Space ship? This may work for some. I never built space ships in Civ 1 or 2 myself though. It is about as thrilling as culture above. Build space ship parts as fast as you can ... just not fun to me. Lack of decisions to make again. Maybe since you are only allowed like 5 good cities this is more challenging ... maybe they want us all to play 5 City Challenge, instead of OCC.

UN domination? I have no experience with this. So far it looks like the only thing to play for maybe.

I think the main problems are borders, all land being claimed so quickly, and corruption. Borders and quick expanding AIs seemed like great things, but maybe they in fact hurt gameplay because they make colonization impossible. Corruption I have no idea WHAT THEY WERE THINKING. Did they even playtest past 5 cities just once???? Did they playtest seriously at all?

I am really worried that when the neatness of the new features runs out, Civ 3 is going to have little replay value. There is no exploration ... just being locked in by borders and corruption.

(sorry for such a long post, thanks for reading)

Well...all out warfare never gets old...and if your dominating too much and too early on, then play on the harder levels...or trying palying with more civs...or if you want a long exploration game, try playing on a huge map with lots of land, you can edit the rules a bit to make exploration harder, making raging hordes or barbarians, this might help a bit, making settlers and workers more expensive, little stuff like this might make things better...try playing around with the editor...who knows...you might find something you like...

You can edit the corruption deal...but I think its fine...

hmm...Im sick of people saying they didnt playtest when its obvious they did...otherwise we wouldnt have a virtual bug free game...duh...

Well if you are confident they playtested having lots of cities, then the rampant corruption is intentional. Therefore the game is designed with no expansion in mind. Seems odd for Civ to me.

Anyway playtesting or not is hardly the main thrust of my post.

That is why i spent one line replying to playtesting and quite a bit more on help on what to do about expansion...

Yeah you're totally right, I was still thinking about what you said and wanted to justify myself on the small part.

Well...i just say im sick of it cuz Im rather please at how bug free this game is...Games this bug free ive never experience before on initial release...game balance isnt a bug, but rather a feature, and can easily be change to ones prefrence thru the editor...
