I heard a story about him on NPR this evening, I thought it was interesting:

However much I may dislike them as people, I can't help but find myself having a little grudging admiration for leaders like this who I imagine would be really good Civ players (not that that necessarily makes them someone whose rule I want to live under).
 
Like no public spitting or urinating laws?
Although not sure if these were implemented in his time.
Sometimes I think the West needs these kind of cliché iron laws, sometimes.
 
I'm pretty sure it's illegal to urinate in public in most western countries too. Singapore's cleanliness laws aren't much more draconian than most countries' - it's just that people usually obey them. (That said, the worst chewing gum stain I ever suffered was in Singapore.)
