Good Evening,

New to this, so if this is not the right spot for it, I appologize.

I downloaded a new mod / scenario titled World War III. It is a new Korean war mod.
Deleted my cache. loaded the mod. looks great. perform all my moves. at the end of the first turn, the game crashes all the way back to Windows.

I got Civ 5 when it was new, and it has never done this before. Ok... thought the mod was corrupt, but now my game has begun to randomly crash on mods, scenarios or just plain normal games.

Any thoughts?

  1. If it were me I'd start by deleting my cache again as insurance since some mod-data seems to get stuck into some of the cached files, and it does not sound much like you have anything to lose.
  2. The next step after that I would take would be to verify integrity of the basegame files by doing the "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE" on Steam. See here if you have never done that before. Hopefully the last few Steam Client Update changes haven't made a hash of the usefulness of those instructions.
This should at least confirm that you've taken the game back to its 'native state' so far as base files are concerned. If the problem persists after doing that I'm kinda stumped at what else to do.
 
You could try to view your crash log or enable logging and see if database.log has any information in it. Crash log requires ms visual studio or other programs to read, can be difficult to understand what actually caused the crash.

make sure all your drivers are up to date.. (via windows update), graphics and sound drivers, etc.. try just one mod at a time and see which one is causing the crash

hmmmm. Your Stopwatch.log looks a fair bit different from mine. But I would guess you are getting hung up on the Base Game Maps stuff. Are you sure you did a Steam Verify Integrity of Game Cache correctly ?

You are or are not able to run an un-modded game? Asking to confirm my understanding of your problem.

You are or are not able to run an un-modded game? Asking to confirm my understanding of your problem.

Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. This crash was before the MOD screen came up.

I started a mod game after this crash and am on turn 10 or so.... so it is hit or miss.

Does not matter if I am online of offline.

I would delete steam and start over, but I am on a crappy hotel wifi (work)... would never complete.....
 
I will begin a new game with the advanced logging and post if I have a problem.

Archived and deleted almost all mods.
Killed the cache and logs...

Given the description of the problem, the fact no one else has suggested anything else, and an examination of your logs compared against the DLC you listed gives me no hint, I am leaning toward the only suggestion I have left is drastic.

I would first run checks on your computer's drivers and such as labriejp suggested. If none of those have developed a problem, or are showing as having a problem from running diagnostic checks on them, I have only the usual sort of thing to suggest when a program will not run correctly: complete removal and re-install.

I did say it was drastic. Whether you decided to go that route is up to you.

If it were me I'd run the checks on my computer's drivers and such and I'd still wait a day or two to see if anyone has anything better to offer.
 
In the database log, the invalid leader references were before any mods were installed. Is this a corruption of the base game? Or a bad DLC?
 
No. It's because you don't have the DLC for them, But BNW in it's expansion-code has references to update some of the info for these leaders. So people who have BNW but not those DLC civs will always get those errors in their database.log
