Star Trek Online... Anyone Interested

I was still in my light cruiser, getting slapped around by Gorn in one of the patrol missions. I'd join a fight, and whammo - a shield gone with what was apparently a single salvo from a Gorn battleship. Turn hard, and whammo - another shield gone. Then some 3-5 seconds later - boom. All over but the crying and the respawn. I bailed on the mission and got promoted to LCDR with a beefy tank-ish Constitution-class cruiser. Okay, now I'll teach those nasty Gorn a thing or two. Get to the patrol area, enter a fight, and... wham - wham - boom.

Anyway, if you see a battle-scarred (or -scared) cruiser USS Derry skippered by LCDR Rommie, wave hi and perhaps help a brother out. Though I've since learned that the "34" number those Gorn had were the number of levels above me that they were. :dubious:

Oh, and a quick question: the tactical/science/engineering kits: they're just for my captain, not usable by bridge officers, right? So I should just sell the non-engineering ones that I'll never be able to use?

I usually sell off the kits that my character's specialty isn't and what isn't better than the kit they have now.

Oh hey! Check it out! 7000 posts already!

Thanks. And it looks like bridge officers can't wear armor? Or maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

Yes they can! I have all mine wearing mark IV and higher.:scan:

as a Klingon I haver never even seen my BOs :D

:D

Also I feel sad now that I'm starting to get bored of STO now. :( I'm probably gonna level a science to Rear Admiral before quitting. I might also level either a tactical or a Klingon up as well but I'll find out later.

Send your non-Career kits to your alt or something. I send pretty much all my stuff to my alt...

BTW you can also send BOs to your alts........ It's incredibly useful, because after a while you end up with blue (and presumably purple) BOs from quests that you don't really have a use for yourself, but you can send them to your alt and twink him to death. My Klingon rapes feds daily, partly because I'm amazing, and partly because I had all MkIV at lvl 11 and am on course for full MkVI at lvl 21 (with some blues too....).

Seems like STO isn't even going to be keeping most people around for longer than the first free month of subscription. I was really looking forward for this game and ended up not even trying it based on everything I read.

Ummm... how, exactly?

"twink"?

You can get BO's; but to get them you have to fight them hand to hand and win, then they will follow you.

erm, yes. I was aware of that. somebody has to man my cruiser stations, after all. what I was saying is that I have never even seen their 3d models seeing as there is no goshdurn klingon pve element that would theoretically allow you to beam down with your BOs.

In-game mail system. But you have to use the actual consoles in starbases to send and receive items (the one on your minimap can only send messages, not items).

Err, yeah, it's when you get a higher level character to send really awesome stuff to a lower level character. I think the "other" meaning is "deliberately unfortnate".

from wiki:
In Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games, twinking refers to powerleveling a character, through the assistance of a higher level character, particularly through the use of otherwise unattainable high level equipment;[2] or the process of keeping a video game character at a low level while using in-game currency, earned by a high level character, to provide it with superior equipment.

Just found out that you can send BOs to your alt, but you can't use a fed BO on a klingon ship...

 Fair enough. And yeah, I'd imagine when I create my third character (a science officer, this time) it'll help a lot if I can equip them with some good but still relatively entry-level stuff from the git-go.

Oh, and btw... Holy crap! The difference between a tier-2 escort and the original light cruiser are night and day (in that the ships that blow up as you go by after your first pass in the escort turn night into day). :dubious: :wow:

Yeah, I just promoted my second character to LCDR... :D

I recommend everyone's first character to be an engineer that uses cruisers. Every other ship on your science or tactical character will feel as nimble as a sports car! :D

Yeah, my fed is eng/cruiser, klink is tac/escort. They're both fun in their own way. I just wish torpedoes could fire sideways :D

science/cruiser klingon. love the t5 klink cruiser. ship can tuuuuurn.

Indeed. My front shield is taking some serious abuse.
