Hi! I thought i'd make a thread about everyone's favourite civs! (from any dlc or xpac) Mine is definitely Brazil, the brazilwood camp is beast and tourism from golden ages is fun. and adds a very good reason to keep your civilization super happy.
That is just my opinion, yours?

Russia.

Production bonus compliments tradition (and liberty, of course) in a nice way.

Extra strategics let me buy more stuff when i need it most (early game)

Cossack with +33% versus wounded units is a beast. Krepost is somewhat useless to me though.

Sweden.

While their UA is nice for going peaceful, caroleans are just too awesome not to use. My every Sweden game ends with me warmongering with caroleans.

I like to play with all the civs, but if I had to pick a favorite off the top of my head it would be Ramkhamhaeng, with the war elephants. I love the UB as well, and the food and culture perks make it a very versatile civ.

I would say Portugal is my go-to civ when I can't think of any other civ to play. I also sometimes playing the Inca, but only if I get a coastal start. I got my capitol's population to 50 in the last game because of their terrace farms.

This would be my first post on these forums so , yeah :) Figured after 1000 hours played and many hours reading threads here that i'd actually start to post eh!

My fav civ? Don't really have one. I rather i have favorite A.I opponents. Attila and Genghis are supposed to be crazed warmongers but , heck they are funny. I definitely would have a beer with these two while discussing trivial matters such as who gets to steamroll Gandhi or Theodora.

Meanwhile in Attila's Court :

''Esse halle attiLLLLLLA! Wominche , RRRRRrrrrrreb whollenun keksenkeke!''

Carthage. I'm a fanboy, naval focus (and having navy has more meaning in Civ V than it did in Civ IV), nice commerce, crossing mountains... Even though I feel they could use a buff. They should have the UB they did have in Civ IV, which would give something great for water tiles, or maybe additional trade routes? ^^ Or bonus to city connections.

Other than that Inca are pretty great. And well, I'm Polish, so...

Korea since I love specialist economies and great person tile improvements.

My three favorites are Polynesia, France, and England, although I'm also partial to Byzantium and Korea. I imagine I'd like Brazil if I played them more. I like maps with plenty of water, and Continents Plus or Terra are the earthiest I'll take. Even then, I tend to turn up the water level (and make it 3 Billion Years Old - mountains are pretty!)

Polynesia is an oddball choice, but they're perfectly suited to my playstyle - I love to build beautiful empires. Building plenty of Moai means I can expand to any spot I want anywhere on the map and keep the social policies coming, and once they start producing tourism a Cultural Victory is coming in short order. Their early embarkment means a bunch of free ruins, and it has the surprising tactical advantages of being able to "retreat" into deep water and travel the seas completely invulnerable to attack until Astronomy, at which point a navy can escort your troops. The embarkment bonus applies to triremes too, making them incredibly useful explorers. The Maori Warrior is not incredibly inspiring, but it gives you the edge against barbarians you need in the early game and the defense you need to defend far-flung settlements from attack. Plus, they're so much fun to play on Terra or Earth (especially if you make a beeline for Australia).

France has become my newest favorite after BNW. I love theming bonuses and I love seeing France's massive inflated City of Light tourism. I'm a sucker for UI, especially cultural ones, and chateaux are just so darn pretty. I also happen to really enjoy the flair of unique musketmen, and the Musketeers have flair out the wazoo. Vive la France!

England is my go-to when I want to conquer the world and make them scream, "Hail Britannia!" England is great because, as I've mentioned, I love water and no one moves around in it better than England. More importantly, they're the only Civ in the game with 3 UU's. As soon as you get bored with one, the next one comes along. First, you get Longbowman, my favorite UU - crossbows with the potential range of Artillery are so very cool, even if you can't shoot to your full potential most of the time. You can start your conquest in the middle ages with them, and as soon as you get bored, Ships of the Line come along to keep the slaughter going. Once you start rolling your eyes at them, along comes Industrialism, and all your promoted longbows upgrade to Gatling Guns with 2 range - your unofficial UU and arguably the most powerful. And all the while, your extra spy is filling in the top of the tech tree while you murder your way through the bottom.

As for Byzantium, I love the religious game, and building a super-religion outweighs the "quirkiness" of their early UU's. Besides, I like the dromon and come on, it breathes fire, and cataphracts are actually quite useful as super-mobile city-takers when combined with catapults. My favorite way to play Korea is actually Kultural, going down Piety, focusing on GWAM specialists, getting Messiah as an Enhancer, and planting plenty of great prophets. It's certainly suboptimal, but it's a lot of fun.

90% of games i start are randomized civs. i find that Netherlands make me happy for all the freaking :c5gold: and capitol :c5citizen: and beautiful Polders once the right era is reached. i feel like Netherlands is easy to turtle with but you can turtle and win with any civ. just that this civ feels like you're playing a level below the actual level. unless they start you with no Marsh.

Poland steamrolls. feels too easy.

also agree that Byzantium is a blast if you like turtling with a super-borg religion, then getting Congress to make it the world religion. the only time i've got AI's to go through Revolutionary Waves was w/Byzantium, and didn't try to on purpose.

America is the civ i've had the most fun with Industrial-Atomic era domination.

WTT Germany late game domination with their UU tanks. IF i can possibly get Brandenburg to max out their promotions and produce literal Rolling Death Armor :spear:

So many to choose from

Probably going to go with Celts and/or Aztecs.

Celts because they are a good war-monger Civ that supports both war and infrastructure. The free faith allows for a decent religious presence with nearly zero effort and Ceilidh Hall gives happiness which is one of the main constraints in war. Upgraded Picts can go toe-to-toe with long swords when in foreign lands while allowing you to keep to the top half of the tech tree to further infrastructure. Plus, I like their color scheme.

Compare to the other "typical war-mongers" which require you to delve into weak techs like iron working and steel, and have no perks to maintaining a religion and happiness.

Aztecs simply because Jags are a lot of fun, their music is great, and sacrificing weaklings for culture.

Persia.

50% longer golden ages, plus the UB grants extra happiness. The golden age also grants extra strength and movement for units. I mean, hey, golden ages are l33t.

Spain. Having the game won in the first 20 turns can be very nice. Obviously the downside is that if you don't find any natural wonders early on, it's about as vanilla a civ that you can have. Tercio is nice, too.

Spain: I love the randomness.

Aztecs: There's just something about gaining culture when I nuke somebody that gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

England.

I love the extra spy which help me a lot on higher difficulty. Not only that longbow are the king of medieval, followed by SoTL which help england dominance both land and naval warfare. Also she has good starting biased mostly.

I like how they did Brazil in BNW :) But going for Cultural Victory really makes the game go longer...

In the past I played Montezuma / Honor going for Domination victory many times on many maps and I love Aztec's early game. You're bullying people from round 1. Also, I had a memorable Montezuma game with "Raging Barbarians"... With Honor, you absolutely spam the +gold +culture for killing enemies and barbarians... Plus the Aztec UA, it makes killing barbarians really worth it.

Spain.

I play quite differently when i roll Spain. It is like EXPLORE EVERYTHING NOW. MUST...GET ...NW!

Holland is pretty nice because DEM POLDERS! Looks real colourful in late game and make my empire look like it is producing rainbows:)

Least Fav CiV: America. They are so boring it hurts.
