In the course of doing the next version of my "Civ3 on Earth" mod I have been adding unit icons to an extended units_32 file.

This allows you to have icons visible in your build list for added units if you so chose. I haven't seen anyone else put up their units_32 for general consumption and yet many people download these units so I will do mine.

It isn't purrfect, but I saw no reason to hoarde it until it was and was released with the next version of my mod. Many of the "icons" I produced myself using FLICster.

Added unit icons to units_32:

Albatross icon 75

Apache icon 76

Arab Horseman icon 77

Looking at the units_32 file I noticed that some of the units's colour did'nt come out right. I take it you've just taken a screen shot from FLICSter.

If you have then you should take the screen shot of the unit with the civ colour set to red, then in paint shop pro save out the palette from the unit_32.pcx file and load the palette into the screen shot you've just taken.

And when you resize the unit to fit into the 32x32 box, you should resize it using pixel resize in Paint Shop Pro.

Try that and see if it helps.

Cheers.
James.

Thanks kitten. This has been long overdue for those of us who are unwilling to mess with pcx files.

Good work!

Ta Jimmy.

As I said this is just part of a work in progress...I won't necessarily be using all these images.

As I downloaded each and every unit in this forum I could lay my sticky fingers on, I made a nearly complete unit32.pcx myself.

Differences to other unit32-files:
- not mod specific --> covers all
- more units than I found in any other
- grouped into categories for better usage in the editor
- sometimes different versions for one unit so you can decide for yourself
- basically just collected and sorted every unit32 pic I could find (meaning no preselection)

To be clear, I just did copy&paste work, all pictures and units are the work of the respective authors and to them belongs the due credit. :goodjob:

If any author of one of those unit32-pics has a problem with their work being included in this file, please let me know, and I will take my file out.

Special thanks belong to kittenOFchaos for this thread, his file, and especially for his color-correction work on those pics.

The only thing I did with some unit pics is to erase their shadow(s) and/or to center the unit a little more, both in a very primitive copy & paste way…

Have Fun… [dance]

...2nd update after 16 d/l...

Version 3:

Moon...you use some of the FLICster screenies I do?

Anyway...see first post of thread I have updated my units_32 with correction to the civ colours (following what JimmyH said).

Plus a few extra units I think.

Probably, as I said: … I just did copy&paste work, all pictures and units are the work of the respective authors and to them belongs the due credit.
This unit32 thing I just made for my personal use and tried to include everything so I might have a better and broader selection to choose from.
So your are right, I forgot to mention one thing:

If any authors of one of those unit32-pics has a problem with their work being included in this file, please say so, and I will take my file out.

If you have any problem with my file (some of the pics, the file at all, it being in your thread), please let me know, and I will take my post out. I didn’t wanted to make any problems, sorry.

No problem. The units_32 I put up was for everyone to use and you simply added units to it and moved things around etc!

You could do with correcting the civ colours...:)

I just wanted to know if anyone was going to continue upgrading their Unit_32???

I'm actually having trouble adding icons to it: the icon is the right size on it's own but when it's pasted into the main file it suddenly becomes 4 sizes too big. So I make it evem smaller and paste it and that seems ok, except for the fact that it comes out quite blurry in civedit and in-game. So it's really no good at all.

Anyway, it'd be great if someone could add in icons for all the new tanks here (like the RenaultFT17 and the AV7), as well as the howitzer units. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how... this is way out of my abilities, sorry!
I'm graphically challenged. :crazyeye:
But maybe I have to copy more units from your file as you are doing a great job with it!

What I did with some units is to erase their shadow(s) and/or to center the unit a little more, both in a very primitive copy & paste way…

BTW, why is this important anyway?
Where/when does Civ3 make problems if you keep them this way?

No sarcasm, I really would like to know.

The only graphic problems I have experienced with some units32 pics were in the Civilopedia (is this the point?), which were gone when I started using the special pedia-pics provided by many unit-authors.
