I was thinking pretty hard on how difficult the AI have it.... Not sure on how to start but.

In the first screenshot..

Spoiler :

Songhai decided to be funny and explore the world with a fishing boat which I was amused over and became slightly disappointed because it meant that fishing boat is probably the bestest explorers now because barbarians ignore civilians.

And that island where my forces is on was just smashing and clearing up the barbarian encampment and it's forces blocking the trade routes, it's been literally there since ancient era. And that is right next to Rome's capital. Rome just did nothing. It was only then after I had my borders very secure from barbarians that I did go and smash the encampment for my trade with rome. Its like What? Your rome!

And in second screenshot...

Spoiler :

You see that deactivated worker? That used to be Indonesian Settler. Let me tell you how that happened.

I was spying on Indonesia cuz they is technologically advanced.. riflemen to my musketman xD On the very first tech steal, my spy's origins got revealed to Indonesia and they told me to stop it, I said Nope, not happening.

Indonesia raged and started extracting tribute from my pet city state named Ur and said stuff to me like that I can't really do anything about to stop it at all and that I cannot protect Ur. I was like oh really?

Why do I see that unescorted settler of yours waltzing in my Capital's Core zone? it's benefiting from "MY Protection" that my couple of galeasses and warrior is providing by patrolling and smashing barbarians.

Which prompted me to dow Indonesia and enslave that settler into being my worker. War was brief, Indonesia paid me 17gpt for peace.

Then after 10 turns or 20 turns it started to extract tribute from Ur again, I was like ok, you're going down for once and all. I cranked out an combined fleet of Frigates/Privateers/Caravels, accompanied by musketman/cannon and riflemen. Indonesia got annihlated. Their pitiful fleet of 5 caravels was no match for my 20+ Ship fleet at this point.

By this point I was wondering why I was losing so much money, sure I have a big army but it doesn't feel that big. So I decided to check my trade indicator and noticed that none of the AIs is trading with me including rome. I was like well whatever okay and joined Rome in colonization of the large island to the east of my starting place. It's barbarian infested so I take time to build new land troops/settlers and started to move them to the island.

Poof poof poof poof Rome popping cities even when barbarians was protecting island. I was observing the barbarians deliberately ignoring the settlers so the AI can settle. I became angry. I would've beaten Rome to the settlements but I didn't cuz Barbarians and AIs is cooperating in secrecy against me.

So I decide to check the trade between rome and me.

Zip Zilch Nada. I decide that Rome is secretly hostile towards me cuz he don't have any trade routes towards me while I'm only one trading to him. I had two cargo fleets enroute to rome capital for 55gpt and I looked at barbarian/rome secret deals.

I wanted the Palmyra location enough to attempt to demand it from Rome. I was like hey Caesar, you barely managed to beat me to that location by few turns but I have a rather massive fleet/army ready to chill in Palmyra so don't mind if you give it to me?

Caesar was like, nah i can't give up such a great bounty it would be very foolish of me to do it at all so I refuse to give this town to you and you'll have to deal with it.

I was like okay pal, war's on it is then and we'll take Palmyra by force.

here in this third screenshot you can see how horribly undefended the roman colonies are.

Spoiler :

My splinter fleet/colonizing riflemen was enough to take palmyra instantly in one turn.

Because the failure of Rome to analyze how strong he is vs me and my current forces. After taking Palmyra by force.. I decided that I did really want those other roman towns on the island razed after all. They're illegitimate settlements anyways, barbarians didn't capture the undefended settlers :D

Of course I lose two cargo fleets but eh, that's life.

U know, after I take care of last few roman colonies I will turn my eye to their capital. I'm the only reason why they could have trade routes from their capital anyways so I might as well help myself to their awesome capital which have spices and a Gold mine. MMmm gold mints.

Plus Indonesia surrendered so I have a free navy fleet with nothing to do XD And apparently I'm the world's strongest power at 191k on soldiers demographics I think, I forgot but I remember seeing my german iron cross there.

Firaxis still not done with the AI programming.

Like, learn how to suck it up instead of making me lust for their cities by bullying my pets.

And Rome have shown past passive hostile actions towards me anyways by couping my city states several times but I managed to coup them back while not sending trade routes my way to make me reconsider my stance.

And AIs if they consider spending alot of effort in colonizing something, they need at least some kind of army/fleet to go with their colonizers.... Never know when someone else happened to be coveting same land but have been too busy with home affairs to send out colonizers immediately. It's only wise! After all instead of taking only Palmyra, I decided to take all.

So u think AI is silly? Go Deity - you will have fun with frigates on turn 300. :D
