Well, the honest answer? Nobody for all I care. Everything you mentioned is absolute fluff except for the patching (which, before steam, we SOMEHOW were able to manage) and the DRM.
Because gamespy is a terrible, terrible system. Not to mention all the other social features that steam provides (You may not need/want them, but others do, and they help drive sales). The entire free aspect of steam is also pretty attractive when compared to having to develop/implement your own system.So, why exactly do we need Steam?
