desert folklore vs goddess of festivals (crazy start)

Lets say your first city was entirely desert, it was on a river with 7 floodplains, 6 incense (within range).

Would you choose desert folklore or goddess of festivals?

Desert Folklore because you get to found a religion quicker than everyone else. You could then choose Monasteries as a religious belief because it's ability is "Use Faith to purchase Monasteries (+2 Faith, +2 Culture, more with Wine or Incense)".

Unless all 6 incense is on a flood plain then desert folklore always. The +1 culture is only for cultural victories anyways.

That depends on how many desert tiles there are and how many of them you're likely to work in the early game. For example, I'd probably take 6 Faith and 6 Culture over 10 Faith. Culture is certainly not only for cultural victories.

Godess of festivals is +1 faith and +1 Culture if your people are working on it. Doesn't need to be improved just set population on the tiles to work it. But insanlyapple also has a good idea too.

It all comes down to what you'd work early. I mean, sure, having 6 incense around is nice, but they're not necessarily the best tiles to work early (lack of food). Odds are you'll be working the floodplains earlier, meaning you'll get more use from that.

Other note - do all that you can to get Petra.
