Persia: This theme is vastly different from the other war themes. It is very sad and somber. What this theme says is that you don't want to fight. Fighting and war brings death and despair to everyone. Nothing good comes out of a war (Sidenote, look up elegy in the civ V soundtrack).

It also conveys betrayal. The very first note and Darius says it all. "What? You..." You have been backstabbed by your century long ally because they were getting jealous of your vast Persian riches and culture, and at the same time you are full aware of the fact you cannot possibly repel this attack. It is the end, almost.

It can also convey the utter mistake Persia did declaring war on Greece which led to Persia being conquered by Alexander the Great. To me, this is a different theme. It is not catchy, but food for thought.

Zulu: It has a weird mix of happy and threatening. And the constant Shaka chanting is grating my ears. Sorry, Shaka, but your precious loincloth won't save you now.

Greece - Nice atmospheric piece with a good tune as well, it fits perfectly with Greece generally. It also has an interesting progression towards the end.
Siam - Messy. Probably deserves to go next.

Did someone really downvote Assyria ? That's crazy, they've got the most intimidating war theme in the whole game, I love it.

Meanwhile, China's still there. It doesn't really sound like a war theme, mostly because it doesn't sound like anything at all. It manages to be both off-putting and boring, quite a feat.

It sounds like you're just upset because I dissed the music of your motherland. The Dutch theme has flutes in the middle (or some wind instrument, I'm not 100% positive), for god sakes! Wind instruments struggle to scare my mighty hordes.

The Assyrian theme is way better and the entire time it actually sounds like a nation on the march, soldiers off to war, etc. Imperious and commanding - this is a top-notch war theme.

I'm going against the flow and vote for Pacal's war theme because I actually like it. It's one of my favorites and the only one I truly care for among all the native American civs musics. Let's give him a chance.

I'm downvoting China's war theme because well I find that it's really uninspired compared to many other great themes. It's time to eliminate it.

I know right? I've actually been listening to it a lot the past days and what can I say... I like it! I can understand why the singing, which sounds kind of out of sync with the music can grate on people's ears, but the whole music is actually good I must say. But oh well, it wasn't going to win the battle anyway.

Bye bye lunchroom music. Austria's peace theme is a lot better as its war theme. Kind of a shame, given the amazing music it's derived from.

And upping the Rennaisance Vader theme. The flutes the theme got condemned for earlier support the larger scale, much like how other themes get supported by less 'impressive' instruments as well. To me, the Dutch war theme sounds like a proper marching music, designed to both boast about the glory of the Dutch empire, as well as boost morale of the soldiers, rather than being a truly intimidating tune, such as that of, among others, Assyria or Japan.
