Has anyone else felt like the map generator slowly degenerates in the maps it provides? I felt I had fairly balanced maps for a couple games and then slowly it has started to put me down in the tundra every time and then maybe block me in with a desert. Also it is giving civs more extreme starts. 1 civ might have marble and then only forest in the starting BFC, while another civ has pigs, wet corn, and 2 gold.

Just bad luck then. It's one of the most fair scripts I'd say. Something like Rainforest can give very unfair maps, I've seen AIs landlocked to 1 city behind mountains, and others surrounded by vast stretches of desert.

In terms of food all scripts will be a bit uneven because it's loosely based on a random roll. You can get a lousy cow start, or triple wet corn.

Keep plugging away at it. If you're unhappy with the start you get, you can always re-roll from the menu, or Ctrl+G (I think it was).

...I can't think of any CFCer more aptly named to give that answer
