Do you think it is OK to play Rise of Mankind: A New Dawn on Large map size or it is really proffered to play in Huge since it is recommended setting? Since game is slow would it not end pretty fast with smaller map size or is Large size actually OK? If so, what number of AI to use for optimal game play?

I always play on Large and it's OK. Default number of civs but that depends on playstyle. More civs means earlier contacts, less civs means more barbarians.
