Immaculate NES Five: Blood From A Stone

Awesome... i am so glad to have you dread.

Do our income stats take Agriculture, Industry and Energy surpluses into account, or not? So, for a state with the following (made-up) stats:

Economic Points: banked: 5, income: 5.2
Agriculture: 4 / 3
Industry: 4 / 3
Energy: 4 / 3

Is its income 5, or 8?

Income would be 5. The agriculture, industry and energy numbers show what goes into that income stat and give you an idea of how much lee-way you have when, for example, buying new units. If you have no food surplus, you probably shouldn't be training 30,000 new soldiers... that could lead to food shortages. If you have no spare energy, you probably don't have the biodiesel to power a few new destroyers or bombers.

As for the income itself, there are also other factors (population, loyalty and power of factions, fall-out, etc).

Immac, I've scoured the thread for a deadline, but found none. When do you want orders?

I was going to wait for more players before setting a deadline but i think we have enough to start.

DEADLINE IS THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 26th AT 4PM EASTERN STANDARD TIME

(if you don't know what 4pm EST is compared to where you are, just get them in before midnight on thursday)

also note:

Writing Orders

Write orders in whatever format works for you but please remember
1) to include your stats,
2) clearly outline your spending,
3) that you can only spend your ‘banked’ funds and not your ‘income’,
4) that if you are involved in war, you should include the division of your forces, what units are present in what theatre (include a map if you like)
5) to limit your orders to one private message.

Stories and Rewards

To encourage story writing, I will be rewarding stories. But to speed up the updating process, I’ll leave it to you to remind me that you are due for a story reward. So, if you’ve written a story or otherwise feel that you’ve added to the ‘story’ of the NES (this includes adding to the wiki) then remind me. In your orders, include a link to your story(ies) and I’ll be sure you get a few extra economic points. Story rewards will never be too impressive- stories are there to add to the NES and not to punish those who don’t have enough time or the inclination to write any.

The Magnate Republic of California reporting for duty.

"And in the death
As the last few corpses lay rotting on the slimy thoroughfare
The shutters lifted in inches in Temperance Building
High on Poacher's Hill
And red, mutant eyes gaze down on Hunger City
No more big wheels

Fleas the size of rats sucked on rats the size of cats
And ten thousand peoploids split into small tribes
Coverting the highest of the sterile skyscrapers
Like packs of dogs assaulting the glass fronts of Love-Me Avenue
Ripping and rewrapping mink and shiny silver fox, now legwarmers
Family badge of sapphire and cracked emerald
Any day now
The Year of the Diamond Dogs"

I'm definitely interested. However, since I won't be able to get to a good computer until after orders are due, I'll wait until after the first update to join.

Magnate Republic of California
Story 1 - Update 1
Spoiler :
An Ark for the Wolves

The powerful American corporations that had nearly run the USA in the Past Times fled to California as the world crumbled. They retreated around centers of great American Industry such as silicon valley. The wealthy business men joined ranks, dug in, and profiteered in the age of wars and hunger. Their joint resources allowed them to enjoy the worlds luxuries as they watched the world around them crumble on 70” HD TVs.

They called it the Ark. Great hydroponic farms, solar and wind farms, geothermal, super computers, anything to maintain a microcosm of civilization. As the dust settled, they climbed out to claim their place as almost Gods to the bewildered survivors.

The Fall of LA

A battle raged so long the region in and around Los Angeles, the reasons, the cause and the parties involved have been lost to time. The armies, with no homes left to go back to, made peace and settled there. With the haunting skeletal hulks of skyscrapers served as shrines to the fall of man. The survivors of the war huddled around small camp fires made from whatever was around.

By this point much of the old food stores were long gone. Due to the culture of “green” in California before the great collapse brought some changes easier for the Californians. Many of the survivors were use to backyard gardens. Soon the survivors added raising livestock. While cattle and dairy cows did survive the great cataclysm, Californians turned to smaller and easier to raise animals for meat. Pigs, Chickens, and new specials to the American diet, Guinea Pigs, Dogs, and Iguanas saw their way on to plates.

Of Wolves and Sheep - Part One

Oppressive and cruel, the sun beat down on the associates of Manpower Inc, District 2919, as they toiled. With basic tools they picked at the ground, constructing a soon to be irrigation channel deep in the Californian heart land.

A supervisor or by the name of Jack Carpenter had been assigned to watch this stretch of the project. Sweat poured from his brow as he sat in the shade, filling out paper work. “God I hate this place,” he muttered to himself as he swept his forearm across his forehead. He took a minute to observe his associates, he felt some pity for them. More so he was glad to not be one of them.

“Three days out here, and it looks like we have barely made a dent,” he thought, “I wish we had a front-end-loader.”

He had seen pictures of them in text books. One day they would be common place again, promised the Magnate, but Jack feared that the wonders of the past time would never be recreated. The few mechanized machines where reserved for special projects. Jack was requisitioned 2 teams of burrows, a few wheel barrows, and a few dozen shovels to go with a few dozen associates.

The one tool he had that wasn't descendant from the past times was the couching wand. A small hand held device, that could be used to activate a pain inducing implant in any of his associates. He despised using it, but it often was the only way to 'motivate' underpaid, overworked, and disenfranchised employees. Yet, Jack faced far worse punishment for not making plan.
