Honor with Shaka just gets straight up silly.
But what I wanna know is... can you take all the very neat benefits you get with the Impi... and put them on a helicopter gunship?

No, you can't. Impi doesn't upgrade to a gunship.

Impis upgrade to riflemen, not lancers.

Impi upgrades to musketmen/riflemen/etc. It follows that path. And they keep their promotions except for the "spearthrower" one. They can be pretty bad ass units for the rest of the game. Just build a ton of impis and go with honor and autocracy and upgrade them.

Doesn't the Ikanda grant the special promotions to other units as well? I'm pretty sure I built a Swordsman with one of the Buffalo promotions.

Only pre-gunpowder units, who never upgrade to gunships for Zulus.
