Historical events in Civ IV terms

Canada is so busy spamming Temples to fight the culture from the USA that they can't afford the time to build up their military to do something important or significant (Canada captured Tokyo? I'd move there, then :D)

No, no, no. Canada got that special quest a few dozen turns ago, something about building Colosseums in cities with Tundra or Ice in the BFC.

"Spamming Hockey Players: This quest allows you to spread your Culture to neighboring Civs with a Colosseum and at least +1:(. This quest is doubly effective with Broadcast Towers." Then they got enough :gp: that Wayne Gretzky was born as a Great Artist, and America never stood a chance.

The HRE (closest thing to Austria-Hungary I can think of) was furious at Serbia (nothing in civ really fits here...maybe greece?), but they had a defensive pact with Russia. So they bribed Germany into the war. Germany, knowing they still have a few turns left until Russia will manage to draft enough units and mobilize them, decided to strike France first, who was likely to be bribed by Russia. France had heavily fortified border cities, so Germany wanted to circumvent them by attacking through Belgium. Unfortunately they had no Open Borders with Belgium (Netherlands?), so had to declare on them. Belgium had a DP with England, so England declared on Germany. Later, to complete the dogpile, America joined the war as well. At the end, Germany had lost some cities and had its economy ruined by massive war weariness. It got an expensive peace, revolted from HR into Universal Suffrage, but a few turns later went into WHEOORN and entered Police State, Nationhood and Slavery.

SUMER

Starting in 4000 BC, w/Hunting and Fishing.

By 3200 BC acquired; Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Writing, Polytheism, Pottery, The Wheel, Mysticism, Masonry, Monarchy, Alphabet, Archery, Bronze Working, Mathematics, Priesthood, Mining, and Sailing.

Pretty impressive. (In reality, they started w/Ag, AH, Hunt, Fish, Pot, Mys, Mason, and Arch.)

Civics; HR, Slavery, Paganism.

Apparently, despite all this research, barbarians of many different varieties attacked periodically; the Guti, the Kassites, the Akkadians, the Amorites, the Arameans. Somehow, the city of Babylon separated (ala LoR), and became an indepent power, inheriting all the techs and adding Code of Laws.

The Babylonians then built the Hanging Gardens but were conquered in turn, by the Persians led by Cyrus (the Great), who didn't have quite as many techs as did the Mesopotamians, but DID have Horseback Riding (and a stack of Horse Archers.)

(The story would be compete IF there was an Assyrian civ. Sadly, this major oversight is one of the ignored, yet highly significant civilizations from history.)

Russian Revolution

Russian Civics were Hereditary Rule, Nationhood, Serfdom, Free Market & Organized Religion

The Russian citizens were unhappy with Hereditary Rule and Nationhood and wanted to change to Universal Suffrage and Bureaucracy. They also "demanded emancipation" but didn't understand civic changes and thought this could be achieved by switching to State Property.

They held a revolution. After a few turns of anarchy they had switched to State Property and Bureaucracy but found they were still running Hereditary Rule and Serfdom. They had also changed to Theocracy.

Russia then built the Cristo Redentor and switched civics every other turn between Serfdom and Slavery.

The Indian Empire was large and powerful, and they didn't like the Khmer Empire (Kalinga??) so India DoW and sent a small stack but was easily defeated. This made the Indians angry and sent 5 mega stacks of death for just two cities.

Greece was the center of culture and thinking until their golden age ended after so many turns after the runner ran from Marathon to warn of the invasion.

The Polynesians got a nerfed island start with no metals. Plenty of food and other islands to REX to, which they did using their Pahi UU, so they city-spammed all over the Pacific, but due to the huge mainenance costs and no real trade routes, they were tech-backward when the English first arrived with Explorer units.

This is an obvious one:

The Spanish sent 3 caravels with explorers and after they popped some goody huts with some gold, so then they sent galleons full of cuirassiers... the jaguar and quechua warriors didn't stand a chance even thought there were a lot of them. The cannons with the accuracy promotion from the citadels simply ignored the chicken itza defense bonus from the mayas ^_^

It helps that the Spaniards signed alliances with the nearby Barbarians LOL.

Unfortunately, the british demanded one too many GPT from their American Colony.

Then, of course, they rushed a bunch of Redcoats from England and send them over w/o cover, and got taken down by Privateers.

Meanwhile, France broke the ceasefire and helped america while the English Canadian cities are still revolting.

The Americans get lots of GG due to not filling up their bar before and soon they had lots of inferior, moraly superior units.

the Canadian cities finished revolting and Britian declared CF.

Canadian culture caused a culture revolt in american great lakes city. native Americans attack USA while having pact with egland. Cease Fire broken.

Three batkes: england tried to land troops at Baltimore, but a fort with 1 riflemen defended near it and they don't have amphibious. However, their ships did attack with a few amp units to burn parts of D.c.

US tries to invade canada, but failed. Numerous small battles with indian flanking-two horsemen from west and defending archers. Indian GG is killed.

US counter attacks invasion near New Orleans before peace, and destrios a few high promoted troops with cannons.

United states continue to fight against indians, capture a few southern indian cities and razing them. Indian partisans migrate west of the Mississippi.

United states gets golden age with a great merchant. A Mexican-formerly barbarian state joins us and the war started. Fought a war against a Spanish colony and capture many cities. Took over west coast and traded back their capital due to maitinance.

Civil war started when a messy civic change let some former partisans to capture and whip out a few dozen riflemen. However, this barb invasion of Pennsyvania was destried after many barb victories, and they ran out of population to whip. A number of cities razed due to lack of cotton trading to use against Maintinance, and were slowly rebuilt under Emancipation.

A golden age by great scientist start. However, alot of unhealthiness from growing cities.

At the end of World War II, Japan capitulated to the U.S, which proceeded to build the U.N. and use the additional votes to bolster its position.

U.S. refused USSR's demand to switch to State Property because "that would go against everything we stand for"

Hitler kept using "Our close borders spark tensions" as an excuse

In 1812, the British clicked "Burn Baby Burn" on Washington D.C., resulting in a -2 diplomatic penalty.

Said war happened due to Britain producing too many privateers.

In the 1860s the mounting unhappiness caused Lincoln to adopt Emancipation, resulting in some disorder.

Spain was far ahead in the colonization in the Americas because Magellan had circumnavigated the globe, therefore they had a +1 movement bonus.

The Crusades happened because they wanted 2 holy shrines.

The Roman Empire had raging Barbs turned on.

Kim Jong il is viewed by the world as a villain, resulting in disastrous results. Similar things happened with the U.S. under GW Bush.

.

Awesome. :D

Now one from me ;) :

In July-1997 AD, the English Empire liberated the major city of Hong Kong to China, giving a diplo bonus. Hovever, they lost control of several Corporation HQ's based in the city.

Emperor Meiji switched Japan's civics from HR-Vassalage-Serfdom-Mercantilism-OR to HR-Nationhood-Emancipation-Theocracy (the national promotion of the state cult). Japan then used all the troops drafted to take over Korea. Later on, Hirohito tried to go for a domination victiory and attacked most of his neighbours. Unfortunately, Hirohito then attacked Roosevelt, who used his Ind/Org to spam Navy SEALs, ships, planes and tanks, and completed the Manhattan project in a record 4 turns and proceeded to nuke 2 of Hirohito's cities. The Japanese were forced to sign peace that turn.

Egypt plays with a weird mod that allows to construct a lot of pyramids. However, although they have rich flood plains for a nice GP farm, they have never switched to Representation but to Police state

Great "historical" analysis going on here I see

Speaking of Egypt(from our PoV:D), all the news about the "anarchy"/"revolt"/"revolution" in Egypt and the Arab world are total BS, since either Egyptian leader and the Arabian leader are spiritual

Hitler couldn't capture Moscow in WWII because he split his SoD.

Hitler couldn't capture Moscow in WWII because he split his SoD.

 Yea, silly Hitler.

In ww2, America lost quite a few diplo points with UK as Churchill repeatedly said "We urgently request America's help against the Germans!" They clicked no.

Due to Japan's actions, the U.S. was convinced to cancel all deals. This resulted in Japan's DoW. Hirohito refused to talk for 4 years, until the atomic bomb.

The invasion of Normandy was a ploy to return cities to France, so that France could pass the 50% land/pop threshold and thus break out of capitulation.

Likewise, as Russia rolled from the east, more and more capitulated countries broke away from Germany. However, they came under Soviet control, resulting in Churchill saying "we fear becoming vassals to your empire!"

Eventually Eastern Europe got controlled by the USSR, however, the incessant "we yearn to rejoin the motherland" caused it to break up. Same with Britain's colonies.

Current events:
Mubarak of Egypt was playing with the revolutions mod. Unfortunately both his local and national stability dropped. Also he had +1:c5angry: in every city because of "we cannot forget your cruel oppression" So the people started rioting.

Alexander forgot that his Hero Unit is also the leader of the country... and when it dies...

The Hunderd Years war was actually pretty short for 20 turns, and started because English culture captured the Wheat field at Normandy and the Stone at Aquintine.

No, they declared war, made peace, culture-bombed some border cities and then made Sitting Bull's cities flip to them. Then they razed those cities. Finally, with only a few small cities left, Sitting Bull peacevassaled.
Most indians didn't have cities... nomads.
Anyhow, that's funny for what it is worth...
