does not load past opening screen

Civ 5 won't load all the way. It gets to the load screen (movie is off) and freezes and I get the Civ 5 can not load window. sometimes it gets to the "click to continue" screen then freezes if I click on it. I have verified the cache and even deleted it off of steam and reinstalled it. all my other steam games work fine. I have updated all drivers also.

Please post your DxDiag file:

Hit the "Windows key" and "R", type in Dxdiag, hit enter. A menu will appear, with a save option at the right bottom. Save the file and attach it here. This provides us with essential information about your system.

Also, did the game ever work? If yes, did anything change on your system?

I had a similar problem and verify cache turned up no errors. The problem was my HDD was faulty and I determined that when HDTach reported an error when trying to scan the HDD Civ5 was on. I suggest you scan the HDD Civ5 is on using chkdisk etc just in case.

I don't see anything in your DxDiag that might be causing a problem. You made some posts about Civ 5 in late 2013, so the game was presumably working back then. Are you still using the same system as before? If yes, did you make any changes just before you noticed the problem with Civ 5?

I am having the same problem, Civ 5 will reach the begin the game, then totally freezes. I have uninstalled both steam and Civ 5 and reinstalled them both.
I am fed up with this situation as I cannot play any game
Please suggest how to over come this problem

I have the same problem as the others in this thread. I would guess it is not a problem on our end.

It is interesting that it doesn't let me verify my files.

Edit: I tried different stuff and nothing worked out, so eventually I completely reinstalled the game, which ended up fixing it, whatever it was. It was certainly a little strange not being able to verify the files though.

Did the game ever work? Also, please post your DxDiag file. Instructions on how to create the file are posted earlier in this thread.
