Map Labels

I'll start with forests of India since you mentioned that specifically. It would probably be helpful for my productivity if you gave me one thing at a time so I don't go off all willy-nilly on research.

Those are great, thanks! I could probably use real forest names for any/all of the other cultures, so whatever you can do is great.

It might not be worth trying to do desert names, now that I think of it, because when I have made-up desert names it's because there are no/few deserts in that culture's region.

Forests of Denmark!

Hello, I've listed some new Russian and Polish names for the Slavic group. :) Apparently, I wasn't able to find many Russian historical or geographical realm names, but an influx of Polish ones should help - my tip is to remove the names with "Oblast" and "Okrug", since those are administrative subdivisions, often derived from the name of a particular city. Those labeled with "Krai" should be fine, as those most often denote larger geographical regions. I also added some important Russian rivers you omitted. :) Hope this helps!

Russian:

Don Voisko

I don't think that's a good name for an area. It literally means "Don Army" because it is the place where the Don Cossacs lived. It would only fit if this region has a barbarian camp which just refuses to be destroyed. :)

Yeah, I had that dilemma... I didn't want to call it "Don Steppe", because there's no way of assuring that such a specific label would be placed on Plains. :) So yeah, that's a mistake made willingly.

No deserts in the region.

If it seems a bit too long you might divide it Mainland and Maritime Southeast Asia. I'll get data for Malaysia + Indonesia + Philippines if you want to do that.

Hazel, thanks so much for the work you've put into the mod. My build is pretty mod-heavy, with a lot of custom civs that seemed to choke earlier versions of Map Labels, but v4 is so far working like a champ.

The only issue I have at the moment is that, for some reason, every time I exit the city view screen, the Map Level popup comes back up and covers a good chunk of the notification area. I have to manually close it out each time, and each time it comes back when I leave a city view.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Assuming it's not a mod conflict on my end, is there a simple way to fix it?

Still having a lot of fun with this mod, and eagerly awaiting v.5!

BTW, if anyone else out there is having the issue I reported above, I tracked down the fix. It's fairly easy to do - just comment out line 338 of MapLabels.lua, so that it reads as:

Code:
--Events.SerialEventExitCityScreen.Add(Show)

The map labels window should no longer pop up automatically when you leave the City View screen.

I'm trying to add a Culture though my mod locally, (putting your mod as a reference so it loads before mine), but it doesn't seem to assign the Culture to the Civ. Here's my sql:

Code:
CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS ML_Labels_Dynamic (ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, Name TEXT, MainType TEXT default "FEATURE", SubType TEXT, CultureType TEXT);

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS ML_CultureEras (ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, Type TEXT, Description TEXT);

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS ML_CultureGroups (ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, Type TEXT, Description TEXT);

CREATE TABLE ML_Cultures (ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, Type TEXT, 'Group' TEXT, Description TEXT, SuggestedCivs TEXT);
INSERT INTO ML_Cultures (Type, 'Group', Description, SuggestedCivs)
SELECT 'MOD_LEUGI_MUISCA', 'CULTURE_GROUP_AMERICAN', 'TXT_KEY_ML_CULTURE_MUISCA' , 'TXT_KEY_ML_CULTURE_MUISCA_SUGGESTEDCIVS' ;

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS ML_CivCultures (ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, CivType TEXT, CultureType TEXT, CultureEra TEXT DEFAULT 'ANY');
INSERT INTO ML_CivCultures(CivType, CultureType, CultureEra)
SELECT 'CIVILIZATION_MUISCA', 'MOD_LEUGI_MUISCA', 'ANY' ;

And my xml (TXT not included):

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Not sure why it isn't working, but I probably missed something important hehe. Getting this error on the logs:

Code:
[3103.655] Runtime Error: C:\Users\muxu\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\Map Labels (v 4)\Lua\ML_API_DLG.lua:377: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value)

Sorry for the late reply to the recent posts -- been busy with another project the last few days. But thanks so much for all the names and feedback! It's great so many of you are using it. I'm going to be working on Map Labels today and should have v5 ready (with the above additions) later today or tomorrow.

I think the main problem is you're missing the 'IF NOT EXISTS' when you're creating the ML_CULTURES table:

Code:
CREATE TABLE [COLOR="Red"]IF NOT EXISTS[/COLOR] ML_Cultures (ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, Type TEXT, 'Group' TEXT, Description TEXT, SuggestedCivs TEXT);

My guess is Database.log would show a SQL error and the rest of your SQL file isn't getting processed, so your culture name doesn't show up.

The second problem is that my mod doesn't have an error check for this situation (in which a ML_Labels_Dynamic entry has a culture that's not in the list), so DLG is probably failing completely (hence the Lua error message). I've added this in to the next version.

Let me know if this works!

P.S. Beautiful icon! I'd love to add it to the initial notification (my understanding is custom notifications require significant Lua code or DLL modding, but I will look into it)

Janboruta -- thanks for the names! I've got them in now.

I settled on a tile with a label, and I had a "choose production" button stuck in its place. I could advance to the next turn, and I don't know if it's at all related to your mod, but maybe it will be helpful.

Spoiler :

I don't quite understand what happened. Is it that the tooltip for the notification doesn't go away when you move your mouse? I don't think this is my mod as I don't make changes to those elements, but if you (or anyone else) continues to have the problem, let me know.

Oh... didn't even spot that... Thanks! It works now :D

BTW, in the meantime, the icon also works nicely for the header of the Popup:

(Here's the dds of it)

Also, it is possible to make a custom notification if you make a fake unit with the icon you need (and ShowInPedia false)... And then use something like this:

pPlayer:AddNotification(NotificationTypes.NOTIFICATION_GREAT_PERSON_ACTIVE_PLAYER, descr, title, plot:GetX(), plot:GetY(), notiUnit, notiUnit);

notiUnit being the GameInfo.Units["UNIT_?????"].ID; of your dummy unit (of course it will have the GP was born sound, but it isn't so bad)

I've always wanted those kind of labels!
Here are the Types for my civs, the cultural region is sometimes difficult to choose :crazyeye::

CIVILIZATION_SAMOYED (siberia: slavic or E asian?)
CIVILIZATION_NUBIA (arabian or african?)
CIVILIZATION_MAASAI (african)
CIVILIZATION_TIMURIDE (central asia)
CIVILIZATION_PAPUA (pacific or SE Asia)
CIVILIZATION_MONOMOTAPA (african)
CIVILIZATION_KUHIKUGU (South american - amazonian?)
CIVILIZATION_KANEM (african)

To come:
CIVILIZATION_YUPIK (Alaska/siberia)
CIVILIZATION_CARIB (caribbean: first american)
CIVILIZATION_CHACHAPOYAS (andean South america)

If you need some french names I can help you...

Thanks so much for your French names! They're in v5.

As far as your civs, here's how I assigned them:
CIVILIZATION_SAMOYED --> EAST_ASIAN
CIVILIZATION_SAMOYED --> SLAVIC
CIVILIZATION_NUBIA --> ARABIAN
CIVILIZATION_NUBIA --> AFRICAN
CIVILIZATION_MAASAI --> AFRICAN
CIVILIZATION_TIMURIDE --> ARABIAN (ARABIAN has some Persian names)
CIVILIZATION_PAPUA --> PACIFIC
CIVILIZATION_PAPUA --> SOUTHEAST_ASIAN
CIVILIZATION_MONOMOTAPA --> AFRICAN
CIVILIZATION_KUHIKUGU --> SOUTH_AMERICAN
CIVILIZATION_KANEM --> AFRICAN
CIVILIZATION_YUPIK --> SLAVIC
CIVILIZATION_CARIB --> FIRST_AMERICANS
CIVILIZATION_CHACHAPOYAS --> SOUTH_AMERICAN

Let me know if you want any changes to that.

Leugi, thanks for the notification info. I'll see about adding that in.

This is great. I like the look of it in the main box. Do you think you might be able to make the background green to match the grid box? (Something like this, though I'm sure you will do a nicer job with the original file)

And maybe make a 22x22 size either blue or green I can use in the Minimap menu? (to replace the world icon)

I'd still use the blue for the notification I think.
