As I said, I gave kings other try, and unexpectedly this time I'm doing somewhat well. Well It helps to have somewhat of an isolated start instead of spawning next to a runaway. In this game, I spawned next to alexander the frat boy. I found him via my scouts, and in the following turn he denounced me instantly and is hostile. And he still haven't seen my capital yet but he decided that I am weak via scores. He would've gotten me if He rushed me while I was taking a risk with stonehenge build. But he didn't. Must be because of all those mountains inconveniencing him and me.

But I didn't like him anymore after that turn 1 denouncement. So I just rushed an town into a really important spot in the area and sold all my luxuries to fund the gold purchase of hexes. Got myself an nice awesome city with tons of forest, hills and rivers plus mountains.

Alexander got butthurt'd over it and rushed me but..

Faith healers trounced his silly hoplites trying to dislodge my spearmen and such healing for 50 hp every turn instead of 20.

It got to the point where his revenge cities in my territory became isolated because he focused on zanber. So those was razed by a couple of catapults i had running wild.

After the first war, alexander was like fine ok, you can keep the eastern part of this land plus zanber and I'll keep to my west. I was like sure whatever fine with me.

All was rosy and happy as me and alexander expanded some more until you see.. this screenshot.

He came riding up to me on his usual black horse to say this stuff.

I was like huh? Oh so you want me to remove the soldiers protecting Zanber city because they screwed with your plans of razing it eh?

And the screenshot of said Zanber at same turn when he requested me to uh move those bothersome protectors somewhere preferably faraway from his soldiers.

I refused to let him uh invade zanber without a fight so I told him to sod off and said war's on and probably didn't go as planned for alexander because his first turn was ineffective.

I went nuts building alot of musketmen and cannons before I finally invaded greece. It was sorta bloody due to him having my faith healers too but with me having an edge because suicided on me during the first war which made him fall behind in tech after I suicided alot of units just to pillage his lands hard.

Then he qq'd.

Now, only problem is, I barely on the first row of industrial era.

And uh, dear fella monty to the south of me is in modern era. Rest assured I have an spy running for his capital to snag me nice techs already.

This part is where I have alot of trouble, alot of civs just using their cheats to skip whole eras. :( I have to press next turn as I grow my pop for sci even then that's not feasible due to low happiness now. But i'm almost maxed out the commerce tree for that +2 happiness per lux.

After commerce maxs out, I get autocracy.

Sigh this whole happiness mechanic is just a huge nuisance, I like the wealth mechanic of civ 4 for expansion. :(

Edit: Vikings just started to plot against me, that's good anyways I've been coveting their desert cities for ages now XD

Okay, Teh vikings and aztecs dow'd me 12+ turns ago but so far they've been afraid to send units to kill me.

So far i've killed an aztec frigate and destroyer who accidently wandered close to one of my port cities.

4 aztec battleships retreated from 2 ironclads and a frigate.

Then i've slayed an viking worker who scouted one of my inland cities.

My score is 631.

monty at 738, vikings at 428.

I built the neuschwatz castle at same turn as they dowed me cuz i had 2 engineers waiting to build it for like a hundred turns.

And I have WW1 infantry now, they had a window of 8 turns of assaulting my riflemen with their ww1 infantry, not anymore.

And the runaway in this current game is russia with 1284 pts. And I'm just starting to find her territory now.

This is very weird war, both of them is right next to me and our borders is touching each other.

Oh and, after 12+ turns of this weird war, almost whole world denounced both vikings and aztecs for this war. Which is odd because i killed off alexander xD

Very good story. One thing I noticed is the terrain looks really rough around Zander.

A German Pikeman?!

Heresy, I say

Have you tried creating a religion with all happiness-based benefits? Happiness was my biggest complaint about vanilla but with G&K, I don't run into large happiness issues even in heavy domination games with empires spanning the globe.

I like Goddess of Love as a pantheon. Ceremonial burial is a no-brainer. If you plan on settling the majority of your cities, go with pagodas and cathedrals/mosques. If you plan on having a large puppet empire, get the bonuses for shrines and temples. I typically play for domination and love selecting the shrine and temple happiness bonuses. I think your experience will be much better if a happiness issue is taking the fun out of the game.

What? I get them all the time via city states or barbarian encampments. One of the benefits of playing huge maps :p

Yup, its very rough.

Oh and name's Zanber. :p

On the minus side the terrain is rough to the point where it also protected alexander from my troops for awhile until i grinded him through enough to start surrounding his cities with my musketman.

Highly dependent on if other AIs with happiness cheats that doesn't need them whatsoever takes the happiness religion choices anyways. Sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't.

Lemme say what I currently have in current game.

I have total of 256 happiness.

Surplus Happiness is 51.

I have whales, pearls, silver, marble, furs, dyes, wine, incense, copper, crab, citrus.
I have +2 extra happiness per luxury resources via policy.

142 happiness from local city happiness.
10 from global social policy happiness.
24 from global building happiness.
5 from discovery of natural wonders.
9 from difficulty level.

205 butthurt faces from all sources.

34.2 generated from number of cities.
160.5 generated by population.
8 generated by population of puppet cities.
2.5 generated by specialists.

This is great for a small map but...

HORRIBLE FOR HUGE MAPS. :(

And firaxis is just ignoring people that love to play on as big as possible maps.
If this keeps up even via one world expansion, well I'll just be ignoring firaxis because i'm not in their intended audience whenever they release their civ 6. No point in smashing my head against a wall trying to break it down after 100th time because that's insanity.

Coz you see, there is perfectly good islands I want to colonize but I refuse because they'll be happiness sinks. While in civ 4, i would go after them like they're covered in chocolate. And my cities is stretched out as much as possible to minimize eating up as much happiness as possible.

Then I get even more butthurt because I watch the AI plop down city after city with no happiness worries whatsoever.

Anyways about the religion in current game, Only happiness generator i could get is Pagodas because all other happiness stuff got stolen by AIs even when they don't need it whatsoever, they pick it just to make the game harder on me.

Gifted by a CS, probably.

The worst is the other way around, when I get a Landsknecht from a Military CS. I'm always like

"Thanks, thanks for a unit that has no bonus whatsoever except for being built quickly..."

Gifted Landsknecht has only happened to me a couple of times, but I always find it hilarious that they bothered to include this UU as one of the 'special' military CS gifts.

Ah yes, I didn't think about huge maps, you're right. I don't play huge maps for those reasons you pointed out as well as the grind on the computer. I agree, IV's mechanic of expansion was much better.

Shouldn't this be in the stories forum? I'm not seeing any questions about game play from OP.

Nah, its an continuation of my problems with happiness system for huge maps that I started last year, so far I made three threads about it.

Although if it was just a typical whine thread it will be boring to read so its better to entertain the audience if i want some help. While pointing out the flaws of happiness system in huge maps that makes me cry.
