Mr. Jones - Counting Crows
Name - Goo Goo Dolls
She's So Cold - Rolling Stones
Shine - Collective Soul
Sweet Child of Mine - Guns 'N Roses
Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam

EDIT: I think I'd rather see a thread ask for a top 10 within a particular genre or something - not that I want to see multiple threads emerge, but to help decide on only 10 songs!

I'm afraid that all the top places will be taken by the same three main bands : Nightwish, Rhapsody and Therion.

But I'd have a hard time deciding precisely which ones are the best...

Ooh, this may be too hard for me. Some of them are at least going to be combos, I think. Sorry

The Locust - 'File Under "Soft Core Seizures"' / 'Practised Hatred'
The Mars Volta - 'Televators' / 'Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt'
Radiohead - 'I am Citizen Insane'
Propagandhi - 'With Friends Like These, Who the F*ck Needs Cointelpro?'
The TallyWood Strings (String Quartet Tribute to Kid A) - 'In Limbo'
Propagandhi - 'Ordinary People do F*cked Up Things When F*cked Up Things Become Ordinary'
John Lennon - 'Working Class Hero'
Refused - 'The Deadly Rhythm'
At-The-Drive-In - 'Napoleon's Solo'
Radiohead - 'Like Spinning Plates'

No particular order. Subject to change without notice.

Might be a completely different selection in about two hours, but here are some I've listened to over and over again in recent years (in order of appearance on my mind ;)):

1. Einstürzende Neubauten - Haus der Lüge
2. Depeche Mode - Walking in my shoes
3. Laibach - Crtomir, Jelengar
4. Tricky - Bad dreams
5. Dead Kennedys - Kill the poor
6. Tom Waits - Everything you can think of is true
7. Johnny cash - See a darkness
8. Nick cave and the bad seeds - the mercy seat
9. Sisters of mercy - This corrosion
10. The Russian red army choir - soviet national anthem

Most of it are just example songs - and 10 songs are not enough to even name all artists I like just as well as those mentioned above - even with restricting me to actual songs and thus leaving classical music out.

1) "Long Division" - Fugazi
2) "She's lost Controll" - Joy Division
3) "Public Image" - Public Image Limited
4) "Youth of America" - The Wipers
5) "Gottseidank nicht in England" - Fehlfarben
6) "Chemicals" - The Notwist
7) "Pattern against User" - At the Drive-In
8) "Zeittotschläger" - Blumfeld
9) "Evig Pint" - Kayzer's Orchestra
10) "Satisfaction" - Stones.

No particular order (except for "Long Division", this my all-time favorite), just the order those songs came to my mind.

Ouch. I hate picking faves ... but here's some highlights from my playlist for random good songs:

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

Noir Désir - Aux Sombres Heros de l'Amer
Lambretta - Have a Nice Day*
Hammerfall - Fallen One

* I suppose it will say nothing good of my character if I say the refrain of this one is among my favourite lyrics ever:

Have a nice day
I couldn't care less if you do
Have a nice day
I wouldn't spend my time with you
Have a nice day

As it's been said, it's really hard to think of your ten most favorite songs, because there are so many good ones!

So, my list is neither in order nor definitely my absolute favorites. All I can say is that I like all of the following songs very much.

Pink Floyd - Time
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

Iced Earth - The Coming Curse

I could not exclude any one of these songs from my list. So I have eighteen twenty. Furthermore I know there are probably more songs that I can't think of. I suppose there are several dozen Stones songs that can be there with the rest, but I don't want to give the impression that I think the Stones are better than everyone else (even though they are).

I prefer intelligent songs, with great lyrics, good metaphoras, and social subjects.

The best for me are:
1_ Here comes the flood (Peter Gabriel)
2_ Darkness (Peter Gabriel)
3_ Red Rain (Peter Gabriel)
4_ Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd)
5_ San Jacinto (Peter Gabriel)
6_ The Family and the fishing net (Peter Gabriel)
7_ One (U2)
8_ Sunday Bloody Sunday (U2)
9_ Cinco Siglos Igual (León Gieco)
10_ Family Snapshot (Peter Gabriel)

Here's some part of Here comes the flood

I Took the old track
The hollow shoulder across the waters
On the tall cliffs, they were getting older sons and daughters
The jaded underworld was riding high
Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky
And as the nail sunk in the cloud
the rain was warm and soaked the crowd

Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent in any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive
Drink up dreamers you're running dry
