DEITY CHALLENGE - aiming for sub 200T victory

all one needs is a good start ...

Thats why i d just try with babylon (desert folklore/petra land or poland (salt/wheat heaven)

Well, I'd like to encourage you to try - you are one of the few people who I think could do it on a normal map (means no IGE or Spain with four NW ;) )

a good start ... and fortunate neighbors. a few pushovers in the immediate vicinity might be key. aggressive neighbors could really ruin a great sub200 start.

t206 SV on a cooked map
I severely cooked a map giving me as Spain all the NW on the map including GBR and Krakatoa with a tonne of salt and I could only do a t206 SV. although I got Nanotechnology on turn 200 I ran out of freakin' gold.

I have no idea how it could be done legitimately.
Tried again and achieved a t203 SV, where the problem wasn't gold but getting to the last tech before t199.

You have to make more than 4 cities. Sitting at 66happiness isn't good. Try the same map with Spain but go 6 or 7 cities.

Yea this map definitely looks like the one to get under 200 turn SV with enough cities with all that excess happiness. phillip, can you share this map for us to try?

Sure, you'll need to shift out all the CS and any civs that may/will spawn nearby using IGE. I further tweaked the map by adding marble, and it's got some "random" ruins. It's only got 4 coal, so you might want to add more.

Sounds complicated :) Can up upload the AutoSave_Initial_000 save file instead?

I use mods and the like. If you tell me the settings you want(barbs on/off etc) I'll do one for you.

At <snip> last!
Managed a t195 SV with an Emperor 2-city GL->NC Tradition opener expanding to 6 cities. I could've shaved a few turns off the time if I had built my Stock Exchanges earlier. I had barbs off and policy saving on(I only used it to delay the rationalism opener). I recommend Bee-lining Acoustics and timing the completion of the Oracle to coincide with you entering the Renaissance era, rather than opening commerce too early. Also an early world's fair is a must. Another tip is to get to Scientific Theory asap, Public Schools gives the biggest immediate rise in science. Research Labs on the other-hand don't give as much an immediate rise in science.

Managed a t197 SV this opting for Liberty. I picked a GE as the free GP and used it to rush Chicken Itza. Had I picked a GS I prolly would've done it quicker as the problem wasn't culture or gold but GS. I also picked pagodas and mosques, instead of pagodas and 'swords into plows'. I think the latter would've been better.

OK I resurrect this thread :)

Since there weren't any 'legit' attempts I'll try to achieve sub 200T science victory in 'easy way' - so although with reluctance Spain on Great Plains map ;)

Why Great Plains - well, in theory you can roll better pangea map (coastal, mountains spots) but it require infinite numbers of rerolls. With GP it's quit easy to get good start (left side map).

I rolled quite good start and soon have found two NW - means three cities on turn 13!!!

Now I just finished NC. Everything looks good except I made stupid mistake - I declared war on CS to get worker and I took care of the problems of real life (work) and when I was back made peace with this CS but forgot to steal worker, so I had to declare war once again (so no CSs' gifts for rest game :( )

HOF rules - no reloading/replaying, but yes it will need reroll map a lot.

Ultimately, this is the big problem with CIV... If there was ever a reason for me to quit, it's the fact that re-rolling until you hit lucky map has SUCH an impact on the turn of victory.

Sometimes, I'd almost rather play on a cooked map where everyone plays the same map, has complete foreknowledge of the map, and the only difference is the decision-making. (and mid-game randomness, which is not trivial)

You'd still have people who got lucky (with no AIs completing key wonders, or with AIs conveniently attacking each other, etc.) but at least it's not 5 hours of re-rolling. Trying to get sub-t200 Deity science victory without lots of re-rolling is, well, pointless. And lots of re-rolling is, well, boring. :p

Even for HOF I wouldn't re-roll as much as would be needed for a t199 Deity SV.

So maybe better play GOTMs than HOF, there is still luck involved but winners' names are almost always the same

I did say "almost"... I have just as many issues with GoTM, the biggest of which is that those games don't cont towards VVV in HOF!

What do you mean by "left side map"? Is there some kind of trick/settings I'm missing to getting more favourable starts on Great Plains?

The reason I ask is I've been sitting here rerolling GP maps for 30 mins and I'm lucky to get even a mountain in 1/10 games.

edit: well, I finally got a good start, then 15 turns in I meet my twin. Forgot to change opponents from playing as Maya earlier. Damn

On left side map are mountains, you have 25% chance to start there.

Obviously this does not guarantee a good start, but it always gives hope ;)

T82 education - better sounds than is in reality.

This stupid mistake I mentioned before cost me also twice faster decreasing influence with CSs and probably also less influence from gold gifts :mad::mad:

Happiness and culture soon will be big problem , so I don't know if manage to sub 200t victory, but maybe at least I'll beat current record

T82 Education with no universities... due to low population, 30 turns to complete Unis ... might as well be t112 with rush-bought universities. ;-)

Instead of TXXX education/plastics/whatever, I prefer to benchmark with TXXX universities/labs/whatever. That's why rush-buying is so critical, which makes careful use of gold even more important. My best ever Deity Science Victory was t92 education with enough money to immediately buy 2 universities. Instead of focusing on earlier education, my goal would be to have 4 universities up on t90. And you need (IMHO) 8 population to really benefit from universities... otherwise you typically can't afford to stock the specialist slots, so that's minimum 8 pop in all 4 cities.

If you looked more closely on screenshot you would see that actually in the three largest cities (14,10,9 - I would not call them small on this turn)
construction of the universities will take about 10 turns rather than 30; and five cities with a slightly later universities is always better than four cities with universities earlier.

But enough of talk we'll see how it goes in practice :)
