RULES
Economy
Economy is a little more complex. You have income, which are your taxes collected, your income from colonies, and your gains from trade. Then you have expenditure, which is army upkeep, colonial upkeep, and trade.
Taxes are determined by city size. The more citizens you have, the more taxes that are collected. Ergo, more money. It ranks as follows.
Settlement - 1
Village - 2
Town - 3
City - 4
Then you have colonial income. Colonies are designed to be independent, but highly loyal to her motherland. They will send their mother country goods and tribute, burgeoning the economy. Depending on where a colony is, it profits will fluctuate. A colony in Illyria surrounded by barbarians and with little arable land will be more of a burden than a help, but a colony in North Africa or the east will be brimming with wealth, because you have access to far more resources.
Be warned, however, that colonies are considered allies, and you must help them if they are attacked, or relinquish them of their colonial status, in which case you receive no more economic rewards from them.
Colonies, for a long while, will require economic input. You must regularly send supplies to help it get on its feet, lest the colonization efforts fail. The cost of establishment will fluctuate depending on where and how far away the prospective colony is from her motherland.
Armies and Navies also cost much. For every 100 (200 for Spartan cultures) men, you must pay 1 economic point to keep them. If you cannot support your Army, the men who are not paid disband entirely, and may even go over to a rival nation and give information to them. (Not good!)
Navies also cost money. For every 20 ships (30 for Ionian and Pirate cultures), you must pay one economy to keep it. Otherwise the crews will disband, and the ships will fall into disrepair. The disbanded crew members may wander off into another nation and tell a few nasty things about your nation as well
Military
You can recruit military units, but they must be paid. (Refer to rules in "Economy" above.) The only thing I'm adding here are mercenaries. You can recruit mercenaries from any nation, but be warned that mercenaries cost a little more for upkeep, and are less loyal to their commander than your own troops.
Culture
In this game, there are 9 culture groups:
-Dorian Greek
-Ionian Greek
-Aeolian Greek
-Macedonian Greek
-Spartan Greek
-Tribal
-Illyrian/Pirate
-Eastern
Depending on your culture, you may have certain limitations. Spartan Greeks, for example, can not build walls.
Your culture affects your armys makeup. For example, a Tribal culture can not build Spartiates. The build lists are as follows:

Resources
Resources are simple. Basically, there are only a few. Silver, Bronze, Iron, and Wheat.
If you are in an area abundant with wheat, your tax income is +1. (More food means more people.)
Bronze is necessary to make any units involving Bronze. Eastern and tribal nations typically dont have to worry about this much. Same with iron.
And silver increases your total income +2. There were very few places in Ancient Greece where silver was in abundance, so it is quite valuable.
Tech Advancement
Basically, you need to calibrate a certain amount of economy per turn to research a certain tech level. Certain units will be made available depending at which tech level you are.
