Civilization: Byzantines
Difficulty: Demigod
Size: Large
Archipelago, 80%, moderate, temperate, 4 billion
Sedentary barbs

Variant: This might be kind of stupid, but no artillery units. We use our navy, and only our navy, for bombardment. So inland invasions might get kind of tough. Oh, and military victory (Domination or Conquest) is the goal.

I might get talked down from difficulty of Demigod or world size of Large if the variant seems harder to others than it does to me. I don't really know how challenging this will be.

Never played Byzantium so I'm up for this.
For a Conquest/Domination goal in a SG I would use a standard map though. Just to keep it a bit shorter, not really for the difficulty.

currently playing 2 SG-DG games and we do not fare too badly. I would like to sign up, cos i never played this CIV.
the variant sounds interesting, so if you want me...

Alright, you are both in. ThERat, you are probably right. Maybe I'll get a couple large maps and a couple standard maps, and we can choose between those.

Sign me up Admiral B-H

If you have any room i'll join, the Byzantines are one of my favorite civs. Got my first emperor game won with the Byzantines, hopefully now demigod.

Alright, you are both aboard, and we can get on our way (though another spot could be open if anyone is intested). I'll try to generate some starts to choose from, unless my luck is down or someone beat me to it.

What is the team's opinion on map size? I like Large maps, but it means more land to conquer and could be quite time consuming, especially in the latter stages of the game.

Large island maps are great for trading, ugly for sea-borne warfare.

haha, i see some familiar faces in the Team, you might want to shuffle the roster a bit? onedreamer is in europe, i am a european but in Singapore, the rest americans?

large map is fine with me, though time consuming. we might want to go for 5 turns at latter stages of the game.

That is a good point, so I guess I'll get some standard maps. ThERat, you can switch with onedreamer. That works better with the timezones, right?

My preference is still the Large map, but moving units over a great distance in the ocean will be annoying so I am definitely flexible.

Large map:

Large map, Save

And our two Standard maps, on 70% water since I couldn't get a river with 80% water.

i like large map #1

does the swap mean I am up first?

Yep. My favorite was the first map too. It was the first and only large map I rolled, while it took many tries to get those Standard maps. Maybe it is a sign?

Large it is. The small maps aren't worth the bandwidth.

all right let's try large map, hoping it won't get tedious.
It seems half of the team is the same of my first SG... good to know :D

I think so, it would make more sense so that we follow the timezones.

ok, tonight I will start my 20 turns, then you can continue later one, onedreamer

was thinking about the start, I do not want to mess it up. My plan is to go for writing @min science (we do need dromons don't we).
settle on the spot, irrigate wheat followed by mine BG
as for builds i would build a warrior followed by a curragh to make contacts.

our tiny empire

1. 4000 BC
Adrianople founded, spot 2 more wheats :)
decide to mine BG first then irrigate wheat
set science to writing @ min

5. 3800 BC
Warrior -> curragh

6. 3750 BC
send out warrior and immediately meet Iroquois
trade BW for pottery and 10g

10. 3500 BC
warrior spots iroqouis border very close
worker to irrigate wheat, Adrianople grows, lux to 10%

IT curragh -> warrior
spot green warrior

11. 3450BC
send curragh south, meet Aztecs
since Iroquois very close decide to trade alphabet for warrior code + 10g
send our warrior back to town

12. 3400BC Aztecs learn CB, they are still down BW
wait with trade

13. 3350BC
curragh meets Carthage, they are down BW, Pottery and WC, up Masonry
get masonry for BW, WC and 10g from Carthage
get CB for Masonry from Aztecs
Warrior on MP, lux to 0%

15. 3250BC warrior -> settler

16. 3200BC Adrianople grows, lux to 10%

18. 3100BC worker to mine another BG

20. 3000BC
settler should go to the spot SE of cow
iroquois down 3 techs, aztecs on par, carthage down 1 tech
