Hello. My name is Tenna. I was just an ordinary ten-year-old girl living in Tarre yesterday. Maybe I’m not so ordinary. My mother died when I was three and my father is a traveling businessman who can rarely come home. I’ve never let it bother me, though. I’ve learned to put all that aside whenever I needed to focus on something else. I also have my friends to help me.

However, today, my life changed forever. I was sorting through some old family possessions, and I came across a sword. It read “Fulfill my legacy. Build a shell, learn and live, and your wish will be granted.”

The sword sucked Tenna into a strange, prehistoric world, emerging with wings, in front of a tribe of pink people.

These people saw Tenna as a messenger from a higher power, and immediately hailed her as their leader. Thus, the adventure of Tenna began.

The Beginning

Leader Tenna, as the leader of us nameless people, your first action will be to name us.

How about the Catrians?

Okay… I like that.

Allow us to introduce ourselves. I’m Ara, your Domestic Advisor, that’s Ketto, the Trade advisor, that’s Martrite, the Military advisor, Temonemo, the Cultural advisor, Ded, the Foreign advisor, and that’s Sid, the Science advisor.

Hello, advisors…

I think you should look at our lands. We have some mountains and some grasslands, and a river. Maybe you should settle on the spot.

Mountain_Valleys.jpg

I say we should move our worker unit onto the mountain to get a better view.

But leader! That would waste worker turns! Worker turns are so important in the beginning of the game!

This is a game?

Life’s a game.

Nice to know I’m still alive.

However, since there was no capital city at the time, Tenna and her advisors did not know where to go. Tenna and most of the advisors went with the settler, but the Foreign Advisor and Trade Advisor went with the worker and were never to be heard of again.

See? Moving the worker onto the mountain has shown us a cattle grassland on a river!

Nothing less from you!

There are very beautiful mountains just ahead too! That is a very good spot for a city, and it will be extremely scenic as well! Onwards!

Tennaton was founded in 50OC (Ona Catriad) and Tenna ordered construction of a warrior, to protect the wondrous capital city.

Lady, what should we research?

I think we should research bronze working. It will allow us to defend ourselves much easier.

Your wish is my command.

Oh, and research at maximum!

The warrior completed in 300OC, and was garrisoned in Tennaton.

Advisors, what do you recommend to build next?

We should build a granary, with a barracks prebuild, of course. We would need to switch our research to Pottery, of course, though.

Are you crazy? We need barracks! Veteran troops are 25% stronger than regulars!

We should build a temple. An early temple will give Tennaton a chance at 20K if everything else fails.

I think I’ll build the barracks.

Aye! We will be spitting out veterans soon!

As time passes, Tenna is bored, until:

Madame, we have completed the barracks in Tennaton

Let’s start building veteran units immediately!

Let’s build a settler!

What? We went through the trouble of building those barracks, and now you’re building a settler?

Ara, get on it.

Yes, Lady Tenna.

To be continued...

Brown = Zulu scout

First Contact

Mistress Tenna! Mistress Tenna!

What is it, Martrite?

We’ve just seen a guy with long hair, wearing black, and drinking from a canteen on our borders! What should we do?

Send him to me.

Leader of the Catrians, we, representing the Zulus, seek… umm… “peace”.

Let’s do some trading then.

Trading was done, and then Tenna walked into another room, where all her advisors were.

Well, who was it?

A messenger from the Zulus. We did some trading, and we netted Warrior Code, Pottery, and 35 gold in exchange for Alphabet and Masonry.

What? Alphabet and Masonry are worth much more than that!

Sorry… I just wanted to make a friend…

Oh well, what’s done is done.

Tenna walked with her advisors back to the trading room, and there was a note on the floor:

-- To the leader of your people: We don’t like pink. We declare war on your puny pink peoples --

I told you we should have built that veteran spearman…

Some time passes…

Lady Tenna, our settler has completed. Where shall we send it?

And what should we build next? A spearman of course!

We shall send the settler to the west, away from the Zulu threat. As for our next project, I think it fairly obvious to build a spearman.

In 1100OC (2900BC), the Zulus met the Catrians in battle, at the shadows of Tennaton.

I think our chances against these barbarian Zulu warriors are not very good. There are two Zulu warriors, one archer, and one more archer waiting in the wings. We should just defend Tennaton across the Koric River.

Two Zulu warriors suicide themselves against the spearman, but the archer does not attack.

Your majesty, the walls have finished!

Excellent. Okay, let’s just stay fortified. *grits teeth*

One archer kills himself attacking, but the other moves onto the cow.

Leader, terrible news! The Zulu archer was defeated by us, but now one of them is threatening our main food supply!

Our best choice, militarily, is to sit tight.

NO! I will not allow our cow tile to be pillaged. Warriors, CHARGE!!

Inspired by the boldness of their leader, the warriors hailed victorious. This victory at Tennaton destroyed most of the Zulu’s offensive prowess, and gained widespread support from the people, even in the newly founded Paris.

The people love you and respect you as their leader. The have offered to improve your palace!

I think I need a better building…

I’m on it.

So Tenna basked in her victory, and began to lay the foundations of what was to become a great empire, Catria. Another city, Orleans was later founded, in the direction of the Zulus, and immediately began construction of walls.

Lady Tenna, we have spotted a canteen wielding man in brown on our southern border…

To be continued…

Brown = Russian scout
Dark Green = Chinese warrior

The Dogpile Forever

Greetings, messenger of a foreign land.

How dare you call me “foreign”? If anything, you are the weirdoes, with all your people wearing pink. Why, if I were armed with anything more than a canteen, I’d–oww!

Thank you.

You’re welcome.

So are we at war?

Better safe than sorry.

Huh?

Whatever. We’re at war.

Good thing that scout was conveniently holding the secrets of Ceremonial Burial and the Wheel in his pocket…

I think that brown guy made away with contact with the Zulus…

I don’t care. Besides, how did they get contact? I didn’t know we had Writing.

We researched that at full after we got Bronze Working, remember?

No…

Several years after the Russian incident, in 2400OC (1600BC), the Military advisor came to Tenna.

Lady Tenna! We have sighted a Zulu impi! It has just defeated a spearman at Orleans!

You all know what that means, right guys?

Of course

Umm… no?

You dimwit! It means we’re going to be swamped by Zulu impis and archers!

I still don’t get it.

*Sigh*

Please allow me to explain. Golden Age…

I thought golden ages were only brought by wonder completion…

Put him in the dungeon…

Gladly, but what are we going to do about the Zulu golden age?

I’ve been told that the Zulus use their impis to attack too. I say we sit tight behind our walls and hope.

Many years pass, and one day, a cyan warrior came from the north.

<through a paper airplane> Hello. Good bye. Oh, and since we hate pink, we declare war on you.

Sid, see this paper thing?

Yes.

I want you to make some things that can be read with this stuff.

Your wish is my command.

And so, Sid started working on this new concept called “Literature”.

In 3200OC (800BC), the Domestic advisor spotted Tenna reading “1000 ways to know you’ve played Civ3 too much”.

What is that?

A book.

I didn’t know we had literature.

Well, if we didn’t have literature, how could we do this?

AW.jpg

Wow! I never knew we were prebuilding for that!

Where did you come from?

I broke out.

You’re still ignorant, as usual… didn’t you know that a spearman in the north defending against Chinese warriors had popped a leader? Of course, I wanted an army, but Tenna thought otherwise. Maybe that spearman, Ceret, should take your place.

And with that library, our technological future is finally secure. Our future is looking bright…

Also, our "shell" is complete. Tennaton is finally surrounded by cities. We will build our empire around the glorious city!

Great Lady, more scum has arrived…

What is it this time? :coffee:

We have contact with the English and the Egyptians.

Great… declare war… :coffee:

But Lady Tenna! They could have valuable map information!

Go get it…

Why are you so grumpy this morning?

It’s just that the AIs have been sending more and more units at us. It’s very stressful, especially killing those Impis. We’ve already lost two workers to those damn things…

It’s okay. The Zulu golden age is over now…

I think I’m going to be like this for a while. The sword told me to build a shell… The shell is here, and I think I will need to use it.

Well, at least the kill ratio is good.

<slightly happier> Really? What is it?

We’ve lost only five units, compared to 43 for the AIs.

How did we get so good kill ratios with all the impis hanging around?

It was you who made the decision to research Mathematics…

I told you it would work… :coffee:

After some years passed, the situation did ease, mainly because the Zulu golden age did end.

Lady Tenna! I have some wonderful news that will cheer you up!

What is it?

The English have completed the Pyramids in London!

:spank: That’s not good, you idiot… we’re not going to capture it until it’s useless… Psst… begin preparations, Military advisor.

Yes, also, since we have the world map, we have knowledge that the English are in possession of a choke city, so if we can take it, we will have an excellent defensive position.

Then what are you waiting for? Bring me the swordsmen!

How ‘bout I bring you to the swordsmen?

That’s good too.

Tenna rose in front of the soldiers and delivered an inspiring speech:

Men of Catria! We are at war, and will continue to be at war for a long time. We must rise and defeat our enemies before it is too late!

She led three swordsmen units to attack the English choke city, and after killing one spearman, the city was no more.

Here's a more appropiate screenshot:

I clicked the thing that said dont click here yet, and Imshouldnt have clicked it.
btw
how is a 10 year old girl running an entire nation?
and doing tactical military operations.?

Good luck. I think controlling a 10 year old for any length of time is pretty near impossible. How are you going to do it for thousands of years? :crazyeye:

A New Age and Era

Horrible news, great one! The Zulus have captured Rouen!

I knew this would happen. Who was the general?

Umm… that guy. *points*

Put him in the brig… I’ll find a use for him later.

Yes, ma’am…

Oh, and by the way, get Rouen back immediately, no matter the cost.

<Military advisor goes to the battlefield>

I’m back.

Already? :hmm:

So? How’d it go?

No casualties for us!

Any bad news?

Yes, I’m afraid.

There’s always bad news. Why are you so scared all of a sudden?

Just a saying…

So, advisors, all is bright and sparkly, right?

Pretty much, although our swords are getting a bit rusty with blood from killing so many archers…

That’s a good thing.

But the Chinese are coming with swords…

We’ll just send a pikeman to stand on their iron then.

I thought we didn’t have Feudalism.

We just got it from the Great Library. Monarchy, too.

Tenna, let’s revolt now!

Are you crazy? We have precisely zero cities! Our economy would collapse!

Okay then, let’s just wait.

So, I’ll send that pikeman to sit on the Chinese iron.

Go ahead.

(To the pikeman) Good luck!

Good luck!

The following smilie explains it all:
aww.gif

Well, we need to get that iron before the Chinese get Riders…

What’s a rider?

A fast Chinese Knight.

What’s a knight?

Some we will be able to build after we get Chivalry.

Let’s start researching Chivalry!

Yeah, why not. Go ahead.

Military dude, you will see what a knight is soon enough.

Lady Tenna! The 4000th anniversary of our civilization is nearing! That means some guy named Jesus was born!

What can he do?

Well, he said he could rush a wonder for you.

Have him rush Sun Tzu’s Art of War in Tennaton then.

Lady, we have popped another leader!

Hey hey… Why do I never get a say in these conversations? We need an army, plain and simple.

Okay then, fill it with pikes.

Pikes? I want to wait for Knights…

Knights are still far away. Besides, we’ll pop another leader soon enough.

We’ve popped another leader. He calls himself “The Light Spark”.

See, I told you. :p

But why does he call himself “The Light Spark”?

He said it would be clear in a while.

Okay, so we should use him to build a future Knight army, right?

Actually, we don’t have a Forbidden Palace yet.

Ugh… I want a Knight army!

So, many years passed afterwards, with the Military advisor not getting his Knight army. Then, Tenna remember something.

You know the guy I locked up a couple hundred years ago?

Yeah?

Make him the new cultural advisor.

Yes, Tenna,

Umm… sorry to break this to you, but the people don’t like the new guy. They are staging a revolution!

That’s good. It’s about time.

Won’t you be thrown out of power?

No, it’s the crazy way this works. No matter what, I’ll still be the absolute ruler.

Of course, since there is not much to do in Anarchy, there is not much to say. Then, a “Revolutionary Girl ‘Utena’” popped.

Yay! A leader. I think I’ll make him an empty army for Knights.

Why does it seem like every leader nowadays has a nickname?

Why? What does this one call herself?

“The revolutionary blaze”, apparantly.

Is this the thing that’s supposed to make the “Light Spark” make sense?

I suppose so…

Isn’t Light faster than a blaze?

We don’t know that yet. We need more funding so we can get Physics.

I’m pretty sure it is. Now, why is the Light Spark a swordsman and the Revolutionary Blaze a horseman?

Blaze refers to the speed of the horseman, but light refers to the shininess of the sword.

That wasn’t a very shiny sword… :hmm: Many archers had died on it’s blade.

We just shined it up after the victory.

Whatever…

The empire (or, rather, the kingdom) for Catria emerged in 4260OC, with a worse economy, of course, but a brighter future:

Tenna290.jpg

they are the French. just changed their name to be Catrians and the capital to be what ever it is.

interesting. why declare war so quickly?

Well, the "AWE" part in the stories title stands for "Always War Emperor" meaning Emperor level dificulty, and on the same turn you discover a civ, you must declare war. You can trade tech for tech and hard cash, but afterwards you must declare war. It's one of the bizarre game variants out there.

I doubt if she stay 10 for that long.;)

We only have three cities! Upkeep is killing us!

We need to build more aqueducts!

That’s kind of obvious. Aqueducts are expensive. We need to build enough troops to hold the front while building infrastructure.

Well, we held out okay when we built those marketplaces in Tennaton, Paris, and Orleans, right?

Okay, I’ll build more aqueducts.

Why don’t we just capture more AI cities?

We don’t have enough troops. AI pikes are hard to kill without Knights.

Tenna! News! Leader!

Build the Heroic Epic.

Yes, I will, immediately!

In Tennaton.

Why?

I like that city… :coffee:

You know, it is the number one city on F11…

*enters glomp-happy mode*

Umm… Are you okay?

Uhh… yeah.

Oh, and by the way, you know how you said we couldn’t attack because we don’t have Knights?

Let me guess… We do now?

Correct! We have upgraded all the veteran horses!

Let’s go crush some Zulus…

We have popped a leader from a knight…

Well, that didn’t take long.

What should we do?

Rush Leonardo’s Workshop in Tennaton.

Shouldn’t we have done that before we upgraded the horsemen?

Shut… up…

Yay! My turn to talk. I need to address the issue of the Chinese Riders.

Don’t worry. We have a pikeman on their iron.

But they have four sources!

True, but only two of them is inside their borders, and the other one is on our border.

Stupid AI…

Tenna350AD.jpg

Tenna, we’ve popped another leader…

Rush the Sistine Chapel.

Tenna, we’ve popped another leader…

Didn’t you just tell me that?

No, we just popped another leader.

Make another army, then.

But great one! We do not have enough troops to fill it!

We can save it for Cavalry.

But that’s ages away!

Tenna, we have just obtained Gunpowder from the Great Library!

That means we still have three more techs. What is our research rate again?

It will take us 18 turns to research Chemistry.

See? Ages away.

You seem to have forgotten. What is our Unique Unit?

Oh yeah, that crappy Musketeer. It’s really bad. Why does it have an extra attack? *

You’re not getting the point.

Then, I’ll just sit and watch.

Tenna, we don’t have any saltpeter…

Why, RNG gods, Why??? :wallbash:

On the good side, there is some one tile outside our borders to the north.

Get it, no matter what the cost.

Okay, it will only take 20 years. (two turns)

Tenna! Tennaton is no longer the number one city in the world!

That’s nice… I’m busy though.

But, on the other hand, the people love you and want to expand your palace!

Yay! After 4450 years, I finally can move out of that cave!

Yay! When I bring good enws, I don’t get thrown into the brig.

Thank you for passing the time so well… We’ve talked for an amazing twenty years!

We have settled the saltpeter city and the saltpeter has been connected.

Okay, you know all that money we got from the Great Library?

Yeah?

Upgrade the Pikemen in the hot spots to musketmen.

Oh, and speaking of the Great Library, we just got Education from it, expiring it.

That’s okay, just set research on Chemistry.

Complete in 19 turns.

Hey, military guy. Attack that longbowman.

This is weird, you never give me specific orders.

With the Musketeer.

So, it’s dead. Now what?

Our great civilization has entered a Golden Age!

That’s what.

Great. You know Tomoyo. He always builds infrastructure in his GA.

Who’s Tomoyo?

Never mind.

You’ll be pleased… I’ll build many knights for you.

Oh, and by the way, we’ve just razed a Zulu core city.

Do you think you can destroy the Zulus with the Golden Age?

Of course!

Oh, and by the way, they have no iron.

In that case, I can destroy the Zulus and the Chinese?

Okay, good luck!

That soldier dude is too busy so he told me to tell you that we have just popped a leader.

Build an army

That soldier dude is too busy so he told me to tell you that we have just popped a leader.

Build the Pentagon in Tennaton

That soldier dude is too busy so he told me to tell you that we have just popped a leader,

We’re out of wonders to build, and we’re two cities short of an army. Rush a marketplace.

*I’m playing vanilla

Tenna510AD.jpg

Brown = German dude
Orange = Babylonian dude

Great one, our knights just don’t seem to be losing. We have completely cleared the south of all enemy cities and forces.

What else?

We have also razed another Zulu core city. The next city in our path is Zimbabwe itself.

We have made contact with the Germans and the Babylonians! Their ambassadors are here to speak with you.

So you mean that suicide galley that we sent out a million years ago that cost us a swordsman actually made it?

Correct.

Back?

Err… not really. It’s still on the German shores.

So how did these ambassadors get here?

I have no idea.

Anyway, let me speak with them.

I hail from the Germans.

And, I, from the Babylonians.

Care to trade world maps?

Okay.

Okay.

And, this time, I will declare war on you first, unlike the times with the Zulus, Chinese, English, Egyptians, and Russians.

Who are they?

How am I supposed to know? Your civilization built the Great Lighthouse.

Yeah, but it did nothing for us.

Now go away.

Was that really necessary?

Okay. On second though, kill them.

Your wish is my command.

Shouldn’t you be out conquering Zimbabwe?

It’s done.

Note to wall: 4590OC, Zimbabwe razed.

Blue guy, we have enough troops now to split them up. We can have one group attack western China, the other finish off Zululand, and have them both meet at Beijing.

Isn’t planning that kind of stuff my job?

No… you haven’t done any of that stuff before…

I’m happy to announce that, with our civilization in a glorious golden age, our core is starting to be safe now. That means we can build some infrastructure. Technologies are coming in at astronomical rates! One per 80 years!

We just got Metallurgy, right? Upgrade the catapults to cannons. We have Leonardo’s Workshop, don’t be afraid.

Why am I the new military advisor?

Because the other one is out attacking China.

The military guy is too busy, but he just razed Shanghai. I had to nag him a lot, but we also founded a gems colony. That’s our third luxury.

Well, that’s good, since our golden age just ended.

We’re still going well. Military Tradition still comes in in 9 turns. We haven’t lost a unit at the choke city for 500 years, and our western flank is just razing random cities waiting for the eastern one to finish off the Zulus and attack Beijing.

70 years pass, and…

We have destroyed the Zulus!

Note to wall: Zulus destroyed in 4790OC.

Great. Now we can attack Beijing.

We have razed Beijing!

Note to wall: Beijing razed in 4810OC. Also, we have just discovered Military Tradition.

Great, finish off the Chinese and send the Cavalry back to the chokepoint where we haven’t lost a unit in 600 years.

We have eliminated the Chinese mainland holdings, but there remains an island controlled by the Chinese.

We have discovered astronomy.

Oh, that’s convenient, since we just got a leader.

Rush Copernicus’ Observatory in Tennaton.

We just got Music Theory.

We just got a leader.

Rush JS Bach’s cathedral in Tennaton.

We have started to attack the English.

Great. Once we get the Pyramids, it will be very easy to fill in the former Chinese lands.
