Speech from the Throne
In yesterday's speech from the throne, the goverment of the Rt Honourable St. Laurent spelled out some bold new measures for the nation of Canada. He laid new visions for Canada both at home and aboard. He envisioned Canada being one of the world's leading free nations, standing with the US and the EU against the evils of communism and faschism both at home and aboard. To do so he said would mark grave changes in the way the government acted. He then went on to talk about the Marxist troubles in Quebec. Mr. St Laurent being from a Montreal riding himself reflected that it broke his heart to see his native province torn apart by strife after peacefully being part of Canada for eighty years. He likened it to an equeal relationship between the English and French that had allowed Canada to proposer. But he added he would use harsh measures to keep civil order against communist threats in Quebec.
New Defense Funding
Related to the throne speech the Minister of Defence announced that the St Laurent government had increased Defense funding by a large measure. If Canada is to become an international bastion for Freedom then we must be prepared to fight for it. The Army, RCAF and RCN are all reciving increased funding. New regiments are being reasied for the army, while new fighters and bombers are being orderd and there may even by a carrier for the navy somewhere int he funding. A strong navy will patrol the maritme coastline of the country and keep illicit materials out of the country. And rumors of new massive government project have seeped out of the Defence Ministry and Prime Minsiter's office it is still unconfirmed but something big is up in the Air Force.
Also of speacial note several new regiments of French speaking soldiers are being raised, the officers will also be French and these new regiments will form the 22nd Brigade Group a purely French force based just outside Montreal.
Internal Reforms Begun
In the Throne speech, military funding was mentioned and rose heavily but as Canada becomes a strong nation it will also need a happy and employed popluation. The government proposes to tackle this in several ways. A Royal Commission on Health will be formed to look into how Hositpials currently serve the needs of Canadians and role of goverment in delivering health care services to the people. Construction of a Trans Canada highway will begin. Starting in St John's Nwfl, and crossing the coutnry to Vancouver it will allow average Canadians to travel in their own cars throught the country. THe goverment has also announced it will fund public universities and subisdize tutiotns to ensure that the Canadian workforce is educated and brings the brighest jobs to Canada.
