Give every person between 5000 $ and 25000 $ according to his work, and THEN, yes, it starts to seem a good idea.

I'm particularly interested in what our resident socialists have to say about this.

I choose to let the market and their job performance set their salaries, game over, I win :p

i understand the point that RM is trying to make here. I wouldnt be able to set salary for a profession. thats dictated by the market, supply and demand.

a possible exception i think is with professional athletes. As their salaries go up, (bouyed by rich owners), ticket prices go up, and fans like me get screwed, since we cant afford to attend sporting events anymore. skyrocketing salaries also cripple smalle-market teams (see major league baseball, a league with no cap on salaries, and compare it with the number 1 sport in America, professional american football, which does. its more exciting, has more parity, and is more accessible to fans).

So, my only beefs would be set a potentional cap on baseball player salaries, and teacher and professors making more

Bah, well it's all relative. Some of us may consider some jobs more important that others but the real answer is that Akka's system could never work since nobody would motivated to be their best as their is a cap on what they can earn. If human's were driven by acheivement rather than wealth then it might work but this isn't Star Trek. ;)

cgannon, that's been my observation so far. I deliberately included many different occupations because there's more than just what I describe as the "four year old's world" of doctors, firemen, and policemen.

Whatever there employer is willing to pay them, is what my answer would be. but since you want me to order them from 5000-25000 this is what I would give out.

Hopefully that's sufficient.

Edit: Apparently CFC doesn't preserve spacing...

I'm surprised you took my thread that seriously. This really was more of a rhetorical question than anything, to challenge those with the most simplistic views of the global economy (actually not even that, as you'd find almost all of what I listed in any U.S. state, city, or other nation's province) to argue for their supposedly meritocratic system.

If someone ordered me to do that, I'll say "Screw you, first give me a shorter list or pay me"

Without reading too much of this thread - since it seems to be baited for something *sshhh*

I think it's better to break positions down by group. Pro-life jobs should be the max (doctors, police, firemen, etc), pro-science (particularly environmental or biological, as well as teachers/professors) also should be high, government leaders (the pay-cut should help break the corrupted cycle) higher, morale postions (athletes, actors, etc) should be in the middle, general industry should be steady, with entry level positons at the minimum.

A breakdown by position is absurd.

I think unemployeed insomniatics should get all the money earned from lottery tickets.

Take from the dumb and reward the lazy, that's my motto. :D

In other words, a troll?

Should be proportional to effort.
I ain't gonna give real figures because:
a) I'm not an economist.
b) I'm not aware of American currency
C) I'm unemployed.

Well one would judge the initiatives gained by the employee, and thus the salaries should be given to those one that come up with better ideas. In theory ever one should be given the same amount + if they have ideas that help the company, fair...I think!
