Those of you who played Civ 1 will remember the newspaper that popped when something important happened, with those cool little quotes under the headline.

Bring it back I say! That newspaper was cool. :D

its good
i have thought about this.
it would be nice to be more informed of whats happening around the world, expecially when it matters most.
---maybe some military propaganda
---mass starvations in some other country
---elections
---war reports (indicating how many civs died during a war)
---reasonings for war (why some ai attacks another ai)
etc..

instead of a newspaper have a tickertape bar.

It could change from a scroll to a book to a newspaper as time moves on...:D

I imagine people attacking the russians with the headline "The Japanese embassador declared that the japanese government, with the support of his people, dislikes fat women"

or against England ... Japanese Ambassador falls into milk bath. Honor is lost, war only option now!

Love the idea!

What he said...

I think that would be a sweet idea, especially Curtsiblings' idea.

While watching a custom map load for Sim City 4, (15 minutes) it had tons of nonsense task titles. It would say things like "rebuffing grassland citizens" and "reticulating triangular tree groves" (examples). Semi-entertaining while waiting for a map to load. I then thought to myself, "you know, some 'mad-lib' style civ headlines could be quite diverse and entertaining."

for example:

(1) of the (2) demand more (3) for their (4)

1 = either: men, women, children, princes, soldiers, horses, rivers, or hordes.
2 = either: castle, plains, cities, hills, press, or nobility.
3 = either: water, wood, grapes, parties, children, or burritos.
4 = either: fiestas, stews, houses, gardens, ox cart, or store shelves.

You mean like the recurring joke in all games of the Sim series: "Reticulating Splines."? Those games have some funny loading things. I like the sound of this newspaper. Bring back, say I, bring it back!

yeah, funny stuff.

The Sims and The Sims 2 had the best ones though.

OT: My girlfriend never palyed games, but one day rented the sims and is hooked. I find it so interesting the creator chose gibberish over a language, even though our brains are trained to find meaning in almost everything they say.

What does that mean?

Yes the newspaper has my vote for a come back!

YES! The newspaper was great!

And I favor the motion of having it change style as you progress through the ages: Stone Tablet, Scroll, Book, Newspaper/Web Page)
