1 More Player Wanted...

Since I can't get enough of RAR, I want to start up one more game, so...

We will be using the Rise and Rule Mod Pack 1.03 found at: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=2457066&postcount=928.

We will also be using a modified bic of the Mod Pack, all changes are viewable in the civlopedia since they are only changes in movement/operational range.

Changes in my mod include each civ starting with 5 Tribes, 5 Workers and 7 Warriors. I also changed the Sea & Coast Movement = 2, Ocean =1. Ships no longer have "all terrain as road" and most are reduced 1 movement point (This is all to increase liklihood of naval battles since there are so many interesting ships to use). Plane operation ranges have been decreased somewhat. Air Cavalry and Gunship have 2 less movement points. Worker bug has been editted.

Plannned preferences (Give a hint of approval/disapproval):
World Size: Small
Water Coverage: 70%
Land Mass: Archipelago
Climate: Normal
Temperature: Random
World Age: Random

Count me in for this one.

I last played in the Leyte PBEM (my first) and although all us allies got thrashed, it was all good fun.

I haven't got RAR yet, but can download easily enough - I'm assuming all I need is C3C and the free downloads...

I have just moved up to Emperor in SP games, are based in New Zealand (GMT+12) and are available to play my turn in the evenings.

World settings sound fine, although accelerated production would speed things up somewhat...

I have a PBEM management ststem I would like to test out, if all players are willing to try something new. Basically, it's a website that manages the distribution of save games and information.

I found that emailing the save to the next player, emailing tactical information to your allies, posting troop losses and that your turn is complete in forums took almost as long to do as playing the turn itself.

My system is a webpage with a few text forms on it. A field with info for the next player, a field with info for allies, a field with info for everyone, and a box to upload your save. Fill all these out on the one page, and when you hit submit, all the emailing and posting is done for you. It will also zip your save file and rename it to a consistent format (game name+turn No+player name+.sav) rather than everyone naming their save files in their own fashion. Apart from that, it serves as a storage place for PBEM passwords (should someone drop out) and anyone can log in and see where the game is up to (ie who has the save).

I'm hoping I can use my next PBEM game to test this system out, and iron out the bugs. If you are happy to try this out in this game, then that would be all good.

That website sounds like it is worth trying... Everything sounds good. No, 5 extra tribes (settlers) speeds things up enough... AP greatly unbalances things.

To be fair to others, I'll hold off, but if you need one more to start, I'll jump in.

well i'd be willing to play but it would be my first PBEM (can't be too complicated, right?)

Ok...thinking about the 1.03 patch... Most likely we could give it a try.

Umm... Even if we use sadu's sending thing, I will need your guys e-mail address, desired civ (if any), and time zone/playing time... Something like this...

BkGreatWarnut, bmklee at svsu dot edu, Greece or Rome, GMT -5

Um...you want to post e-mail addresses like that so that spam things don't pick them up. Also, the e-mail is so I can mail everyone an e-mail list and you can use e-mail for negotiations as well as turns. The game will most likely be started by me. After that, you receive the save by e-mail. Download it, load the game, play your turn, hit end turn and then e-mail it to the next person on the list. If you have any other questions I suggest you check out the PBEM new player sticky...

So, great to have you aboard and please reply with your e-mails.

Thanks,
BK

Also, Sadu, you are right about just downloading the free downloads. Prolly 1.3...is it a full update/patch or is it a beta? And I would like to try the pbem system out just me and you for a few turns first, so please reply asap.

i'm usually on from 8pm-11pm sometime

as for a civ, i'll go with Siam

Waiting for Sadu to respond... If he doesn't in a day or two (by the 24th), we will just get started.

Umm...Gnarff, I'll let you in cause your new, but you have to promise to play and SEND all PBEMs you are involved with in one days time (this concerns WW2 Global) as well as your willingness to sign up for many new PBEMs... If you think you can play and send all in one day, that is great.

We will be using the 1.03 patch and I will e-mail my mod at the end of today.

I would like to try this one...did you fix the bug that did not allow for trading Communications?

If I can get in...I would recommend not going with a small map unless you want war really, really early.

I would like Korea or France (if they are not taken). You have my email (which is at the bottom of the posts anyways at the moment) and my time is EST but varies for playing due to CFIDS.

Ok it is us 4 then...

Umm...I don't think the trade bug is a problem, but I will check. If it is, I'll correct it.

I found that I could not trade Communication (like contact with the xxx) in the 1.02 version.

Hi Guys,

Sorry about the slow response - I have this thread set up to send me an email when there is a new post, but looks like the forums took a break over the weekend and I only just got the email.

Yes, I'm still keen. Email is harvey at gigababy . co . nz
Put me down for Byzantines (if they exist in RaR) or Ottomans / Persians.

I'll check that the website is behaving itself, and post the details today.

I finally found the communications trading...looks like I just didn't go far enough. It is enabled with electricity (of all things). I would have thought heraldry would make more sense, but I didn't design it, so...

BK - Website is all up and running, I have added a few features and fixes to it.

If you want to get in touch on msn (harvey2-at-gigababy-dot-co-dot-nz), we can go through it and you can get a feel for the concept.

Site is http://pbem.fireladder.net

I'll post the everyone's passwords once the game has been set up, as the website doesnt actually do anything until a game is registered.

A couple of things to keep in mind...
Firstly, the site keeps track of the current turn, and who currently has the save. If someone goes and manually emails the save, then the website gets itself out of date because it has no way of knowing you emailed the save manually. Basically everyone has to use the site for sending the saves, or not at all.

Next point is that the site was written fairly quickly, and it's still beta. Once it's complete, I think it will be a wicked tool. At the moment however, there will still be a few bugs in the system, and there are are several features not yet implemented. Our goal is to test the core of it out, and if it works, then I'll add some more features and invite other PBEMs to use it.

Try to keep things simple when using the system (eg don't name your save files with lots of apostrophes, quotes and special characters, as the system probably won't like it.)

If you do come across any errors, please let me know - cut and paste the error, and tell me what you were doing when the error popped up. If the system gets jammed up and it won't accept your save, email the save manually to the next person, and email me so I can fix it (and find out what the problem is).

Save files have been tested up to 1Mb in size, if the files get bigger than that I will worry about it when it happens.

I have set everyone's accounts up so that you receive Zipped saves. Let me know if you would prefer non-zipped (which would be slower to download, but you don't have to unzip before you can use them).

Ok, we will be going with us five then? Or do we wait for one more or add 1 AI???

Also, I will be on MSN soon (probably Monday) and will add you and we can finish set up. Lastly, has everyone download patch 3 which is found in the 6th post of this thread in the link added by Nikox???

Lastly, we will have to check 1.03 for the communication trade bug as well as me modifiying the bic to the above mentioned specs...

Will post a start up message, link to the game site, and a "back-up" start up e-mail just in case very, very soon...

It's not a bug, it's intentionally set in the modern era to have the same effect as telephone in realty (so you can understand why it comes with elettricity...)
